That was a very thorough and informative review! Thanks for taking the pain out of researching this thing! With that said, looks like a fine laptop for the price. Costco has an $899 deal running on it right now. I do believe Costco has a 90-day return policy on laptops so if after a month you don't like it you can simply return it :)
I am here because of the costco sale too. Do yourself a favor and read the costco reviews. NOT good. 8 of 17 are 3 stars or less. That being said, I may still "roll the dice" with this due to the 90 day return policy.
@@MooseyGeek Yes and returned it for 3 reasons 1) The sound level is freaking AWFUL on the machine. I literally had to FREQUENTLY hold the laptop up to my face CLOSE to hear random things (videos or whatever) that were playing... so bad that this reason ALONE would be enough to not buy this computer. 2) They have a BETTER MSI (costco online only) 14" "prestige" model that comes STOCK with 32GB of memory with better sound and performance which was (and still might be) priced at $799 (same price as the 13"). I got the 14" (after returning the 13" and am using it right now to respond to your comment. 3) I never wanted or cared about the flip feature or touch screen.
Nice review. A very thorough review. I'm considering a purchase of this model & your review helped me. As another commenter stated, Costco will take a return back within 90 days. So.........if it isn't what you dreamed that it would be, it can go back. Thanks again!
Thank you. I just bought one with the i7 and upgrades. Im excited about its size and flexibility. I'll be using it for writing, light video editing, and maybe overwatch. I just don't get the hype of Apple. Nothing will change my mind about it 😅 and that's coming from someone who played D3 Hardcore on a 2011 Macbook Pro. I still cringe at the thought of going back. 🙃
RAM is soldered in. For storage it has an M.2 2280 SSD, and easily replacable. Art/graphics... not really. MPP 2.0 is not great for drawing on account of the NTrig wobble. Writing is great, though.
you will be waiting forever. It is not possible to not have a "heating issue" in a laptop this size with a 28W CPU with a max Turbo Power of 64W. All the Alder Lake CPUs support 100C T-Junction. So unless the laptop maker is purposely lower the power allowed (and therefore perfomance) they will all get hot.
What are the other laptops with this form factor that have beefier performance? I definitely don’t need the tablet capability and would rather spend money for power.
Try changing battery settings to more battery saving. Yes, the bottom of the chassis gets hot, but apparently it boosts higher and longer than comparable ultrabooks and that's where the extra heat comes from. I'm super happy with mine- I have the previous Intel 11th gen version. It's almost the same except the HDMI port is a USB C, and it has a slightly worse camera. And the CPU of course.
@@Olivia-W Thank you. It gets HOT no matter what. If you're a "sit on my lap" while I do some work, it's going to get hot and you're going to notice it within 5 minutes. Again, it is a solid machine. Sounds like we have the same model. Very happy with mine (minus the high heat).
@@Juanimo7 I get you! Before I set it to battery saving, it was a little furnace. I use it a lot for notetaking as a tablet as well and it was a hot potato XD. It's a bit like the 120Hz screen (you need to enable it in windows settings if you want). I'm not quite sure why they set the defaults like this. Maybe the lower refresh rate due to battery? But the higher power targets by default on the CPU baffle me a bit.
That is really bad I quite likedit. I was going to buy I really hate hot laptops. Changing my mind... Any suggestion what I should buy not to break bank do solid gaming only in weekend and do descent drawing with pen? I am open to lower settings but don't want to go for integrated GPU at all
it did get pretty hot at first, but after adjusting all the settings including the AI super battery optimizer, my fans do not turn on even when its on my lap watching videos. yes it gets warm but not as hot as it could if i was running it in full performance mode while in my lap. and the fans do not turn on! however i have a 12th gen version, new for q3
An IMPORTANT FYI to anyone considering purchasing this... After viewing a different disassembly video about this computer, anyone considering it should know that it appears that the memory is NOT upgradable in this (it is SOLDIERED to the motherboard). SHAME ON YOU MSI !!! In other words, 16GB (or whatever it comes with) is the MOST you can ever have with this. I am 99.9% sure that I am correct about this and that this IMPORTANT FACT was NOT mention in this video. If I am incorrect, then please let know with a reply (along with SPECiFICALLY WHY you think I am).
Al laptop ddr5 memory is soldered, i am sorry to break it to you but there exists no swappable ddr5 ram and this was the same for ddr4 when it came out so yea it's not msi it's all pc brands, it's also the reason to why framework that gives you fully upgradable pcs has yet to produce ddr5 motherboards and they also declared so because there is no swappable ram there is no need for them to break their vow just to get faster ram
I have this laptop. Because of the brightness of the screen (I use 40% indoors), it lasts 8 hours of mixed continual usage. If you are used to the full-sized keyboards, it does take a little time getting used to. In regards to the price, you should not pay more than $1000 for this laptop. Wait for a sale.
@@tabazlover Appreciate the insight! It's 899 USD on Newegg right now. Do you think it's worth waiting for the price to go further down? Also how are the hinges?
@@tabazlover Hey im looking to get this laptop for school, what are the most notable problems you've encountered with it so far? there's a sale for it at $899 at Costco so I'm deciding on it
@@anivium4854 I don't see it going lower than what it is unless refurbished. Actually, that's the price they are selling at Costco. If I were you, I would go to Costco, try it out, and buy it; they do have a better return policy than Newegg. They actually have that on display so you can play around. The hinges are solidly built but seem to be less rigid than I like them to be. They made it that way because it's 2 in 1. I guess it depends on the preference.
@@jynxtypes12 Get it. it does everything it should do well because of the specs. But some of the videos I watch seem to be too saturated; you can adjust it. If you use it on your lap, it does get a little hot. It's a good price for the portability AND usability if you're OK with 13.3-inch screen

Can this laptop

How do the 2 in 1 laptop keyboards last when using it as a tablet? I can't imagine sitting the tablet down flat would do them any favours?
Why did you not open it up and show us inside?
what about keyboard and trackpad looks small. I think that the ROG flow X13 2023 will beat every 2 in 1 laptop in this year.
Now pair it with an external gpu through thunderbolt and have fun :)
Thanks for the tip. These were just 800 bucks off on amazon so i went for it
Can I use it for adobe creative cloud and programming ?
easily.

You can use some space from the ssd to support the ram.
