He is unbelievable. Personally, If my name was Jonathan, I would have called my channel "Johnny Guitar", after the Peggy Lee song and movie, the song that featured in Fallout New Vegas.
I got the 58 reissue IG Epiphone 335 with the chunky neck in sunburst when they first came out and upgraded the output jack, put on a bone nut and absolutely love it....I took the gloss off the neck and made it satin finished..they are great guitars.
I have an earlier model Epiphone es 335 style guitar and when I got it in the early 2000's, (I won it at a blues festival), I was surprised at how good it was. My thoughts were that they got a lot right with it. It's a riviera series Jorma Kaukonen signature model and I've always liked it pretty much, but recently I dropped in a pair of Seth Lover Humbuckers from Seymour Duncan and all new wiring etc. While it's not a change that's like night and day, there seems to be a much more nuanced tone overall and it makes me want to play it more. I continue to watch the Epiphones in reviews such a this and Jon, you are my "go to" guy for any final word on a guitar. Excellent review, as always.
Great review, Jon. Great playing and EQing as always. Nothing like the semi-hollowbody tone. Not going to fight the 'nothing' beats a Gibson' folks, but for the difference between $600-800 and over $2,000, the Epiphones are a great value and play competitively - at least. I have the Epi Jim James 70s and IBG Figured and love them. And plenty of cash left to upgrade the pickups, wiring, bridge etc. if I want. But the Probuckers will make you think twice before you swap them.
I love Es-335 as well. This one looks nice. Heard there's some vintage Epiphone's made in Japan, some people are interested in, for very cheap. I liked this a lot as well. ES-335 is so beautiful and heard versatile, and sounds so good.
That´s it ! You made up my mind. I am buying this guitar. Great review and demo playing Jon. You are the best guy to show us these guitars. You should have your own television show !!
This surprised me at how great it sounds and how nice it looks. Thanks for playing it clean so we could hear the nuances. It’s tempting because when I first fell in love with B.B.’s playing he was always playing a cherry red Gibson. So, for me, this is kind of the iconic look for this guitar. Hey, I have one small correction. I believe the ‘59 version you mentioned is actually a 355, not a 335. Absolutely gorgeous instrument judging from the photos on the Sweetwater site. Anyway, thanks again for the review!
I've got one exactly like it. It sounds better than the more expensive one turned out to be one of my favorite guitars. Its amazing for the price point. No problem with the tuners on mine..
Very nice Epiphone guitar, sounds great, the price seems adequate to me. And the red color suits it very well, the material, wood and hardware are appropriate in my personal opinion. Greetings Pavel CZ.👍👍👍🎸
Hello John! You are a very good guitarist - and your sound always sounds very tasteful, it simply has style. The expensive Epiphone you mentioned in the video is not an “ES-335”, but a “1959 ES-355 inspired by Gibson Custom.” I hope Epiphone finally gets to grips with these shortcomings. Poor tuners and catastrophically dressed frets have been a questionable “standard” on many Epiphone guitars for years, which always annoys me. With D'Angelico you won't find such sloppiness, or only rarely. Best regards from Germany Mic 🙂
I recently (within the last year or so) sold one of these. They are well made and look really nice! They do weigh a little more than I would have liked, but not too bad. One thing I wish it had would be is more clarity on the neck pickup. I ended up selling it and a Boss Katana MK1 amp and bought a PRS SE DGT guitar. I’m a happy camper! The Epi 335 is nice and is a much cheaper alternative if you want a 335.
Greetings Jonathan, hope you and your family are doing well ❤ 😂..as always great playing and Epi stepped up their game pretty good, the newer pups sound great.. just saying😂
That's odd. Unless those tuners are a lower ratio or spec. The Epiphone 18 to 1 kluson style tuners they use on almost everything. Including the '59 standard outfits. Are very solid units, that I've never once heard any complaints about. Maybe they were damaged during shipping. I honestly can't tell the difference between them and the Gotoh sets I've bought. Pretty sure they're the same parts. Peace.
Wow! Nice! Johnathan, what's the difference between this semi hollow body and the hollow body you reviewed. It was an Epiphone for around eight hundred dollars.
Hey Jon, just wondering... what's your personal view on the tones of a top-loader like this one vs a through-body string guitar? This 335 sounds so rich!
The tuner and setup issues not withstanding, it's pretty ridiculous how good the entry and mid tier Epiphones are these days. Buying my first Epiphone in over 20 years.
I have one in Blueberry burst. The fretjob was the worst of any Guitar I've ever bought. It had several high frets and a really bad case of fret sprout. It needed a full fret job to make it playable.

Thanks! Glad you enjoy the playing.

I think it's an absolutely gorgeous guitar, and the sound definitely matches.❤ The Harley Benton HB-35 is another fantastic ES-335 alternative.

I like the Epiphone logo😅I hope you'll review the 339 someday.
Will be looking out

I put the Hipshot open back locking tuners....on my Dot and Pro... thanks Jon

Nice sounding hollow body for the price. Epiphone makes some really high quality sounding instruments.

Nothing odd.. I’ve experienced some tuners which are wonky.. like I said, might be a lemon

It has a solid center block that makes it different!
Wow, an Epi 👍

I love Es series. Gibson or Epiphone

👏👏👏
✌🏻
If you had to chose between this one and the HB 35 plus.... what would be your choice?
Not too sure
In Europe the HB is less than half the price of the Epiphone.
I paid 599E for the Epiphone and it needed a full fret job to make it playable.
@@TheRafaredthanks for the honest reply! 👍

When is this?? The fretwork on this guitar is great
Increíble se ve mejor que mi Gibson es 335 satín 2024 que tenía el pickup del brazo desnivelado 😢
