Beautiful LP from Epiphone. The gold color suits it very well, excellent presentation, the sound seems very good to me. The price seems to me to be completely acceptable despite the competition. Overall, it looks like a good model from this company. Greetings to you Pavel CZ.👍👍👍
I like the Epiphone’s. I have a Les Paul ES Semi Hollow. Shaped like a Les Paul with the internals of an ES-335. I also have a Joe Pass Emperor II Pro. Both very smooth. Love your playing. 👍
Nice playing Jon! Coincidence I used my EC-256 today... Some licks are slightly easier to play on shorter scale because of less finger stretch if I am not mistaken. Very cool guitar too! I like the Classic 57's as well, also Burstbuckers, but alsooo Custombuckers sound the most! Cheers!
Helloo Jon, sorry I was looking at your video, and realised shortly your message under my stream! I will hopefully upload some better video some time soon, a lot better. Excellent video also!
I know some people love to argue otherwise, but I am glad to hear you agree with my own (much less expert) opinion Jon 😄 Having played quite a number of both Gibson Les Paul's and Epiphone "Inspired by Gibson" series guitars, I also think there is very little difference between the way they feel to play, or the way they sound. This is, I think, not altogether surprising given Gibson's long ownership of the Epiphone brand, or the fact that a luthier, a technician, or a CNC machine can be located anywhere in the world without affecting their work! LOL. In the end it comes down to the quality of the materials involved, and to the quality-control given to the final product. In this respect Epiphone have really upped their game over the last few years, producing instruments that can hold their own on stage, or in the studio 👍 Hope you are well and rested ready for your next set of gigs Jon, it is a highlight of any day to hear you play, and I enjoyed this review immensely 🎸💥😃

These guitars are exceptional...I tried one not long ago at a local shop and it was stunning. Would I buy it over the Gibson? Absolutely! A fraction of the price and it's still an exceptional instrument. Why didn't I buy it? Well, I have a thing for Gretsches and the anniversary Duo Jet came home instead. :)
Hello Jon! My birthday has come and gone. I still haven't decided what guitar to get. I am leaning heavily to a LP style. Definitely not a Gibson. Too expensive and QC issues. This Epiphone looks awesome. The price is affordable. Thanks Jon!
Charlie, don't be shy about trying an Epi LP, they're really good. You'll probably keep it no matter what else you may eventually own. They have a few cheaper models than this one in the video that are still very nice and good value. I have a '20 Studio, it's awesome, as well as a couple Specials, one with P90s. The Sire S3 and S7 are real nice too, those are LP types in the same general Epi price range. Epi and Sire are both great for the money. Good luck in your search.
Charles, Also try some of the ESP EC-256's They are slightly slimmer, and lighter in weight, and comfortable, good pickups and overall nice feeling guitar, I am holding one now. Jon also has a review on that...
not if i wanted to get money out of an asset if i was stuck for money , buy once , id rather have a les paul or stratocaster or telecaster than four cheaper models , just my 2cent
The pickup lack the punch for high end solos. I still prefer the bust buckers. I guess they did nail the look of the 50's. I liked the 59 Epiphone re-issue much better. I will be looking at that one in the future, it gets me about 75% of the way to the sound of a real Gibson.
The Epi's are well done but I prefer to buy an actual Gibson whenever possible. I have a used ~2006 LP Goldtop that's got a little wear and tear on it (not much, actually) but it plays like butter and sounds great. The main reason for me in buying an actual Gibson is that I feel it will hold its value better over time, perhaps even appreciate. That may or may not be true today but was many years ago. The last LP I bought (almost two years ago) was a brand new Custom that is literally flawless in appearance and plays amazingly. Cheers! 🙂🙂
Les Pauls are the most uncomfortable guitar to play sitting down. All the weight gets transferred into the thigh from the sharp inside edge of the horn of the cutaway. It's not noticeable at first but after a few weeks it's painfully apparent. Les Pauls sound great but have one on your lap for a few hours each day and you'll find out. The other problem is the waist. It's location makes the guitar sit to the right (RH player) forcing the player to hunch the right shoulder. SGs and Firebirds are much better. The right shoulder ergo problem is something that one can become used to, to a degreee, much like a pair of dress shoes that are designed for looks and not comfort. The term "boat anchor" is well earned from those playing a Les Paul standing up.
