Proof firing a Ferguson type rifle.

I made three of these actions and had them registered before I retired my Gunsmithing license. They are not meant to be replicas, but using the same loading method. My lathe will not cut a 1” pitch thread, so we had to settle for a four start 1/4” pitch. This just means the breech screw must be turned 2.5 rotations to expose the chamber for loading and as this is a sporting rifle, loading speed is not paramount.
It has taken my friend a few years to get a barrel fitted, fit the lock and get it to this stage. 😅 Can’t rush these things. 😉 Anyway, the standard load for this 54cal is 90g of Wano PP, so we muzzle loaded a tight patched ball on top of 140g of PP.
First section of video is testing the flash channel. First shot was miss fire, but after that, it worked well and didn’t blow up! 😅 These actions leak so much, that it would be very hard to blow them. Thank you for watching. 😁

Thanks for watching and your kind comment, but when the mind is strong and wants to keep going and the ageing body is compromised, then it becomes very difficult to honour your commitments. 🤷‍♂️ Spinal degeneration and crook feet don’t help. 😖 I still try and keep active doing little jobs for myself and relatives, but there are no time or money pressures.. 😁

Nah. It was just costing and not making anything for me. I'm just busy with my own stuff now. Got one more gun to build. A 58cal LH muzzleloader for myself. Maybe put a bit of it up here. If I remember too, that is. 🤣

Very well. It would be very hard to overload this type, because of how much the breech leaks.
