What an astonishing career. Such a great child performer in film and then a huge TV career from child to adult - THEN to move into production and directing with such skill. All the time remaining respectful, hard working and professional. The book written by him and his brother Clint about their father is a great read. He instilled an amazing work ethic into the boys but also did his best to keep their lives stable and nomal. A great family that simply never fell into any of the dangerous traps of stardom.
Ron Howard has done so wonderfully for himself. You always, perhaps often, hear sad stories of child actors, but not this time. I love many of the movies he has directed.
Ron actually said he felt really lucky as he had good adult role models as a child actor and stayed away from trouble. He was also lucky to continue getting roles into his adulthood, which didn’t always pan out for child stars.
A perfect rendition for a little boy of 6 or 7 years named Winthrop. Ronny Howard was spot-on! No need for improvement. If anyone deserves a Lifetime Achievement Award in the entertainment industry, it's Ron Howard.
You've gotta listen to the Howard brothers memoir titled The Boys. It chronicles Ron's and Clint's experiences growing up in show biz. Its a dedication to their parents for being parents rather than exploiting their children. Rance Howard was enlightened, no doubt. Great book. I recommend the audio book to hear Ron and Clint in their own words.
I need to watch this movie again..I’ve forgotten it. My gosh his talent as a child was amazing. I love him and Shirley Jones in The Courtship of Eddie’s Father too. A favorite of mine. Thanks for this story and clip.
I like it, some times its hard to remember when I was really that young. I Ron is about the same age as me and unlike some of the other child stars of that era he had a happy child hood.
If there was any question that he was a born director, just watch how he directs the other two actors with such authority…and he was like 5? I also love the gestures that he still has today (where he kind of holds up both hands to frame his face, etc). Adorable.
I fell in love with this scene the first time I saw this movie with my family on VHS many years ago. before the professor came to the town that little boy was not having too much. he was still grieving the loss of his father and was probably made fun of by the other boys in the town because of his lisp. the professor helped him come out of his shell. I think that is why the mother was open to the idea of Winthrop being in the band so her little boy had something to do
In the book Ron Howard says he couldn’t do the tap dance, so the director gave up and shot the scene from Ron’s knees up and added the tap noises in the editing.
I'm very sure that Gary, Indiana was a great place to visit or raise a family, at one point. Now the city is ranked in the top 10 Most Dangerous Cities in the United States.
Wow, from this to directing films like "A Beautiful Mind," and "Splash", and then his lastest "Frost/Nixon-" not to mention acting on other shows as he grew up like The Andy Griffin Show, and Happy Days; Now thats how you come up in the business. Its very rare that child stars continue showbiz success throught their lives. Kudos Ron Howard...Kudos!
@@americanpatriot3638 From Wikipedia: Like other Rust Belt cities, Gary's once thriving steel industry has been significantly affected by the disappearance of local manufacturing jobs since the 1970s. As a result of this economic shift, the city's population has decreased drastically, having lost 61% of its population since 1960. Because of its large losses in population and deteriorating economy, Gary is often cited as an example of industrial decline and urban decay in America.
(3/2/21) On Thanksgiving, I watched half of The Courtship of Eddie's Father on TCM, and found out that Ron(nie) Howard was the boy. I only knew him as the director of A Beautiful Mind, The Grinch, and Cinderella Man. Just today, I realized he is this little boy from a movie that I have seen 3 times! :0
About the time of "The Music Man" (1960), Gary was at its peak, with a population of 178,000. Today, the city is still trying to turn itself around, but the decay caused by US Steel laying off workers starting in the late 60s in Gary is still evident. @zekeyp Oh I'm sure he did some arty stuff in the 70s or something, but he probably never got as big as that guy who did How The Grinch Stole Christmas. That was an awesome movie.
@DevoMatic hey he was in andy griffen, and i cant remeber but he was in another show. but he actually directed forrest gump 2 so i think he is as big as dr suess lol
I wear my mask anytime I'm stepping out of my apartment. I was always scared of COVID. Then when I got it (a month ago) I was horrified. I still have a metallic taste in my mouth and lots of fatigue and increased brain fog. I actually enjoyed quarantine because I engrossed myself in Harry Potter books and the internet. But although I enjoyed quarantine, I hated the symptoms. I'm glad I didn't have shortness of breath or fever, but even so, sore throats and sinus pressure are torture!
@@highlysensitiveforestgreen2096 yes, figures that it could be a long lasting report of brain fog because of covid, and with so many reports at that! I can't say I'm not terribly worried of what that disease did to our population. We could be killing our society off because half or more of the people are so unaware! that they don't see noticeably wrong things as being wrong.
He's so cute. It would have been awesome if he played the Mayor in the remake not that Victor didn't do a good job but someone from the original should have been in the remake
And his mother moved backwards each time. :) She really earned her money that day! How many times did she get spat on while she kept her loving look firmly in place before they got the take they wanted? :)
He played Opie on the Andy Griffith show (Mayberry) Played Ritchie Cunningham in Happy Days, played one of the leading roles (Steven) in American Graffitti and went on to be an Oscar winning movie director (Apollo 13), Cocoon etc.
Gary Indiana sure has changed since then 😂

There has never been another child actor as cute as Ron Howard,EVER!
Well, just saw Old Yeller, and I think Kevin Corcoran could challenge for that title.
Hello, ever heard of Shirley Temple??
Cool! I’m loving reading his autobiography book, Boys. That’s what brought me here.
Ron Howard has done so wonderfully for himself. You always, perhaps often, hear sad stories of child actors, but not this time. I love many of the movies he has directed.
I think Andy Griffith kept him well and grounded.

@@highlysensitiveforestgreen2096 I just bought the audiobook and am enjoying it too. There's a cool story about how this song was recorded.
A great read! Funny and with humble humor!
Ditto, Ron talking about dad Rance as a failed singing cowboy, Ron trying to stay on key PLUS lisp his way through💁🏼♀️🤓‼️
OMG he is sooo adorable!!! I Love Ronny Howard!!!

I can't believe that little boy grew up to become an Academy Award-winning filmmaker.
He is so cute!!
Adorable youngster!
Oh my gosh Ron Howard was so adorable and of course still is as a grandfather.
People from Chicago can't hear this song without bursting out with hysterical laughter.
I'm here after reading the book, The Boys, by Ron and Clint Howard. Ron talks about this scene. So cute!
Same here. Had to check it out.
In the book Ron Howard says he couldn’t do the tap dance, so the director gave up and shot the scene from Ron’s knees up and added the tap noises in the editing.
I'm just getting started on reading The Boys. I'm enjoying it.
Ron Howard was always adorable.
0:20 and 0:24 love how she flinched when he said “Explanation” and “Syncopation” 😂
he is soooooooo cute!!!
So adorable.

Timeless classic! I showed this to my high school music class years ago, and Ron's raspberry-lisp had teenagers laughing so hard they cried.
So cute :)
we had to watch this movie at school and this kid is always singing it now!!

@musiccrazy1222 i love how he points at his mom then points at marion like hes directing it!
Never knew the city I was born in had a song that was in a musical. Learned it in grade school. This is very cool.
Ron Howard was way too cute way back to the time he filmed in Music Man.
hes adorable!!!
I love this song
Fast fact: Ron Howard is an Okie born in Duncan, Oklahoma..
He was sooooo cute!
So Cute. Lol. 😊
This whole movie was so good back in 1962 - I went to see it on the big screen and it was an amazing movie.
I had so much fun with my fellow ten year olds watching this!
oh that must have been fun to watch Nancy

Yeah go there now.
Sing It Opie .
How I always think of Ronnie Howard:)
I remember The Music Man, he also sang The Wells Fargo wagon song.
Every time I go to Wells Fargo bank I sing the Wells Fargo Wagon (in my head).
It sure aint that wonderful of a place now .
Wonder why? Just a wild guess...do the democrats run that town by chance?

Amazing that he grew up to have more number 1 hits than the Beatles and outsell all other musical stars.
wow, he was also the narrator of Arrested Development. Trippy...
