    The key to successful highway driving is managing space.
    Maintain a minimum following distance of 3 seconds in a passenger vehicle, and more if you're driving a larger vehicle.
    And an important component of space management is driving in the spaces between the clusters of vehicles.
    Learn about mile markers and know where you're exit is and the exact exit number when driving on freeways.
    Good luck on your road test.

    Thanks Rick. I find your videos very helpful, especially now in my early 70s, when I am not as quick to react as in my younger years.
    When I passed my driver's license in the 1960s the following-distance rule was that for every 10 miles per hour (12 or so kms per hour) of speed the traffic is travelling at, keep one car-length back from the car in front of you. So, if the traffic is travelling at 80kms/hr. (50 miles per hour) stay five car lengths back from the vehicle in front of you.
    In those days of the 1960s we had not yet changed from miles per hour to kms/hr.
    I still prefer that one-car-length-per-every-ten-miles-of-speed as a following rule, rather than the 3-second following-distance rule.

    One thing I was trained is look right left right when crossing intersections. Someone may run a red light or stop sign

      Actually it should be left right left. If someone runs the red or a stop sign, a vehicle coming from the left will hit you first.

    Hi, love your videos... just started watching. I've had my driver's license for about 11 years but never driven after I passed my road test since I'm in NYC, and just used to taking transportation. I currently have anxiety of getting on the road, but I need to because I will be moving to a different state. I'm so scared 😳

    The UK has different rules of signaling than Canada does. In the UK, signaling to overtake parked vehicles may be misleading. That country finds that signaling each time you change directions excessive. Are the rules of signaling the same in the USA (where I live) as Canada?

    Hey Rick. I was wondering this: if I’m making a left turn on a green light, and there are pedestrians crossing…do I wait behind the white line till they cross or do I proceed out straight and wait for them to cross? Thank you.

    Shoulder checking is not always a good idea

    • @smartdrivetest
      @smartdrivetest  7 месяцев назад +1

      Who gave you that misinformation? Not shoulder checking is to driving what not checking to see if a weapon is loaded is to gun safety. Why on any planet would you move a 3,000lbs vehicle at speed and not check to see if someone was in your blind area before changing directions? Cheers Rick
