I still have a 1st Gen iPod Touch that I use almost every day in my workshop. I love the simplicity. It’s hooked to a couple rather large Ohm Acoustics speakers through a pre amp. Great sounds, great iPod! Thanks for the wonderful review.

@@jeeztinoy08 iPods don't need good specs. They just need to be able to process video and have a good DAC. It's not like you're connecting to the internet and have to load and run webpages. Bluetooth would be good, but for now there are 30 pin to Bluetooth adapters.

These are mostly used for businesses and it turns the device into a point of sale station or a handheld scanner if you pair it with a sledge/case with a scanner. I have seen these being used in warehouses, specially for online retail. Some stores like Banana Republic still uses older versions for checking inventory in store or making orders for clients.
It’s 2023, and yes, last week, I went to Uniqlo and lo and behold, the promoters were all using an iPod similar to these to easily check their inventories. Never thought I’d seen these anymore in the wild like that.
I've seen companies develop apps for specific uses for these devices.
From event based stuff like crowd controlled environment lighting to actually use them for any type of ordering system or logistics. As long as they have bluetooth and wifi there is a crazy amount of uses.

The iPod 4 was nostalgic. And I say that because I made a lot of friends and got a gf during the time period I had it, everyone else had it too lol. Plus it had a camera, the ones before didn’t. It was a time period where I didn’t stress about anything and just had a lot of fun. Now it’s just work, school, drama, and headaches.

We actually use iPods in our business for maintenance staff to log and review work orders. Too big of an expense for new phones when all they need is a cheap, pocketable device with WiFi connectivity.

You aren't thinking about software support. iOS is supported and updated far longer on an iPod than it is on a cheap Android phone, which means security updates and software compatability with the apps we use for longer.
Oh trust me, for personal use I stay far away from apple products, they aren't my cup of tea. But for business reasons I can't complain at all about how they have filled the role we put them in.

I’ve had mine for a year. It’s super thin and light, battery lasts long, it’s great at parties where you want to use your phone but still let people everyone control the music, and it’s a great spotify dac, distraction free so you can focus on the music
This was the 'phone' all kids had when their parents didn't want to buy a 1k phone for them. Everyone had these around 2005-2015. Imessage worked with wifi, and for a kid, it was perfect. How the times have changed

I remember using my iPod touch to navigate around streets on my 2010 euro trip. If you opened maps it would lock onto wifi connections giving you a really crude GPS. Good memories.

I remember when I was 10 the first thing I bought with my paper route money was a second gen iPod touch. That thing went everywhere with me, it was so amazing that it had a touch screen 😂 then I got a ds for Christmas a few years later and it was not the same lol
I have many fond memories with that device guessing neighbours wifi passwords to get around the no wifi rule of the house (remember when wifi caused cancer?), jailbreaking, loading different OSS
The 4th gen iPod touch was my last apple device until last week. Flash was my biggest reason for turning to android and apple successfully made html5 replace flash as the default way to watch videos on the web. It was truly a revolutionary period for tech. Ever since the iPhone 3G I knew my first phone would be a smart phone since everything was changing so fast. I’m 24 and have literally never had a “dumb phone” 14-24 and I was with android all the way, I just got an iPhone 12 and besides not having a home button it still felt so familiar
If it has a GPS and runs the Nike Run Club app, then it's cheaper than an Apple Watch for running. 🤔
GPS is not listed as a spec, and most places say it doesn't have GPS. It's surprisingly hard to find that info.

Nope, no GPS; the iPod Touch does have "Location Services" but it uses various Wi-Fi signals to "estimate" your location, which can be quite accurate, it's just that means you need to be in an area where there is Wi-Fi (that you have access to) if you want to use your iPod to "estimate" your location. However, you could use your phone as a mobile Wi-Fi "Hotspot", for your iPod to connect with, to use your phone with your iPod to "estimate" your location on your iPod (using your phone as a Wi-Fi "Hotspot"), it's just that, well, why bother, if/when you have your phone on you, you can just use your phone's GPS to find out exactly where you are, so there would then obviously be no need for you to use your iPod to "estimate" where you are, using various Wi-Fi Access Points.
Basically, if you're taking your iPod with you, you'll probably have your phone on you anyway, so the iPod's "Location Services" are sorta pointless and useless; I believe Apple include "Location Services" on the iPod Touch, so people just "assume" it has GPS, just like people assume iMacs/MacBook Airs/Pros, (None-Cellular) iPads have GPS, when they also use various Wi-Fi Signals and Access Points to, again, "estimate" your location.
I guess most people would just assume, that because Apple products (MacBooks, for example) are so expensive (for what you actually get, compared to other, similar specification Laptops/PCs/Net Books etc.) and MacBooks also have "Location Services", that "must mean" they have GPS technology/capabilities built in to them and are included in the computer's hardware, but, there is definitely no GPS chip in MacBooks or iPads either (unless you get an iPad 3G, for example, and put a SIM card in it).
Anyway, hope that helps.

I always like to have a backup pod with me. Sure, you can use old iPhones to do the same - but I just liked the form factor and dedicated nature of this. Still rocking it now.
What I do remember about the first iPods were, they were made "strictly" like music devices...I believe they should have left it that way hence, reducing the confusion and still making them easily recognisable.

Damn, I should've consulted this channel for my iPod touch needs. I still went and shelled out for a 128GB model because I'm an old-fashioned fogey who still wants to have the reliability and speed of having their own music without being fully reliant on a streaming service. Also keeps me one toe in the Apple ecosystem after defecting to Google and Microsoft.

The iPod Classic is the iPod for real enthusiasts. I still use my 160GB Classic every single day, and I love it.
Moo-hyun Roh I also still have a 160gb. Still works. But can’t say I use it all the time. I do take it out from time to time and get nostalgic listening to the songs I put in I don’t know maybe 13-14 years back.

Same. The last one i did that was in August of 2016. I can't have a new one now because my 2016 phone still lives with a few minor scratches on its screen. Scratches, not cracks. And it doesn't have a screen protector. It's also got wet a few times but its still okay, not water resistant even. Aside from the earphones, and the charger, my phone still lives and functions like i just bought it last week.

I just got my kids each one. Yes because they are to little still for a phone or even an iPad. This is a wonderful starter. My kids love them.
I’m not disregarding your decision this is a genuine question, but they could still get into mischief with that except they won’t be able to call you all the time, so why did you choose that instead of an older iPhone for the same price?
@@carsonknighten6804 Because my oldest two have a Apple Watch for a phone and this is less expensive than a whole iPad. I have six kids I’d rather fork out $200 for each kid a nice little iPod rather than a iPad that’s $350. My kids are young. My oldest is 8 the youngest is only 1. It’s small it easy to pack around and they have their names engraved on it so no complaining and fighting.
I got an ipod when i was 12, I had it for 5 years. I finally got an iphone 7 plus. I turn 16 in july. I think a good age for your kids to have a phone is when they are 13 because they wont have to get bullied for having an ipod like i did. I got bullied for being the only one in middle school with an ipod. So my mom decided to finally get me one this year so when i do go to highschool i wont get made fun of. :)

@@abbeyemerson8956 oh I’m sorry you were teased. I didn’t have one until I was 16. Times are a little difficult now though I’m 32. I agree 13 is a good age for a whole phone. But for now iPods are for at home and the Apple Watch’s have a service plan so they can get ahold of me. So like a mini cell.
I haven’t used a new ipod, do you need itunes to add downloaded music from your pc to it? Or can you just plug it in, and drag and drop your music into it easy peasy?
