that's because people don't LISTEN to music anymore and jazz (especially live) really requires a two way engagement between performer and listener in a way that other current music just does not.
What a waste of this man's time...HOW is it that everyone can just sit there while Branford is KILLING IT right in front of them!!!! How is it that no one is out of their seats cheering this guy on! These kids have no idea how privileged they are to be even near that much talent...
The Flautist never took "NO" - for timidity. He fought "hammer and nail" with friend Branford who exhibited the greatness to which I am accustomed - from him. Fantastic!
I am so....blown away. Best jazz flute playing of all time. I know everyone will rave about Branford and Eric but the flute playing is ALL THAT!!! How did I not know about Avichai Ornoy? Those runs he was playing on the flute. He set the tone. This was priceless. What an honor to listen to this. How can everyone around be so passive like a bump on a log? Were they not hearing this compilation? Wow. Thanks for sharing your gift, Avichai. You are absolutely amazing.
@@kennyr1161 James Moody is a legend and Avichai is absolutely amazing too. It is not either-or to me. Nonetheless, I absolutely love listening to Avichai as the next generation of improvisational flutists.
I loved how Branford encouraged the young girl on the piano to go ahead and play after she struck a key on the piano. That one, simple, unassuming and caring gesture might motivate her to become a giant great in the future. Although the trio's playing was phenomenal, that single moment was the most important one to me in the video. Keep encouraging our young people!
This reminds me of back in the 80's when I teased Branford, "Man, the second set you were killing it. You can tell you're really burning when people start walking out on you." Branford looked at me surprised and said, "People were walking out? I didn't even notice."
Most people have to pay to see Bradford but to get to sit beside him free and watch him burn....... for freeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!! And your on your phone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Life is unfair .you gotta know that 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
@ 5:55, the girl is asleep on the piano....come to Mac Arthur High School in Houston Branford if you want to find some kids that truely appreciate real music.
Girls: No one is paying attention to us. Let's get out of here. Flutist: Wow those girls were cute, too bad they were on their damn phones the whole time.
How about the girl on her phone the entire time... Before you hate her, realize that in a few years she will be living the suburban hell, with a plastic husband, devoid of all hope and life - wishing that she was more cultured (alive) while her body gains weight and her liver gasps for breath as a result of constant mimosas, white wine, and red wine. Her life will be devoid of purpose because her purpose was never found by life.
The less popular girl sitting at the piano stayed for the whole performance. She was even fighting the urge to play some notes. She didn't know why the hell those guys kept changing keys in the middle of a song but it was fascinating enough to keep her from being non-stop glued to her cell phone.
And this is the issue with the jazz issue. People like you make this an old boys club that's stuffier and cornier than any classical studio. Seriously what the hell is your problem? She can enjoy this music in whatever way she wants. For all you know she could be texting everyone she knows about how good this music is, or even taking notes. Your idiotic, sexist, and myopic comment only makes you look more like a douche who probably can't even play this shit. Kindly fuck off
The flautist Avichai played really well. Wynton's brother taught the world how NOT to play Cherokee. All of what he played is student level at best. Sloppy technique, messy timing (he lost the time numerous times), inability to play anything interesting on top of the individual changes, absolutely not listening to the bass player and that ending was so unmusical. How is this person teaching? Cherokee on a Bb Tenor saxophone is basically playing in C major for the body of the tune which is why many players like to play it. But the key to playing it is to express the tension in every chord change fluctuation. The flautist did a way better job! Wynton's brother needs to understand, playing Jazz isn't 'playing with Sting or making yet another Classical record. Wynton has managed to be a Classical musician as well as a Jazz Musician. His big brother on the other hand.......just classical! Well played Avichai.
Piano solo was the most meaningful by far, the rest of the soloists just played a lot of eight notes, barely swinging and didn't capture their audience at all.
so brandford marsalis is killin it, and the girls in the back are just glued to their phones. Damn...
that's because people don't LISTEN to music anymore and jazz (especially live) really requires a two way engagement between performer and listener in a way that other current music just does not.
Imagine being next to one of the greatest saxophonists in musical history and looking at your phone
Priceless! For everything else - Master card :)
Burn
Yes. But hey, Branford's great but not "one of the greatest in history," be honest
I disagree. To each their own I suppose.

Most people are ambivalent towards the flute, and don't realize how difficult it is. People like volume.
Idk about that most jazz flute players can't touch james moody.

Or Eric Dolphy on flute!
I clicked on here to hear Branford but I already know I'm bout to rewind this floutist....I mean PLAYED IT!

Best master class ever. I hope these kids enjoyed it.
Branford, oh, Branford, you are a god! Not a single irrelevant note!

beautiful playing avichai with Marsalis and Revis
I don't see enough of Branford on YT. Very cool
Great, Avishai! Congrats! Eric is a dream bass player and Branford, a king. Congrats also to whom recorded this.
It's amazing how you can learn a lot from this tune, I love it
3:50 angry bass staring right at me
Talk about playing through adversity. What does it take to get some decent chairs?!
I think that the audience is in awe of the music that they may not even understand but good for them. They takin the ride.
Branford you sound so good Historty Now ...Thank you Floyd King

2:47 - 2:51 - Damn it's Parker playing KoKo reincarnated for a few seconds.
Sheesh, Revis is beating the crap out of that bass!!!

What's up with the camera sound?

Great...everyone burning.

Classic useless kids caring more about their phones. This man is a freaking legend.

What had the bass player done to deserve this ordeal?
hey at least he's better at playing rhythm changes now. also tendinitis

Gotta love that chick in the orange texting in the background. Haha. She needs to leave.
I hope those girls got in trouble lol 😌
Yeah the girls are on the phone:(
But at least they are (watching) jazz rather then sitting at home stagnating.
Looks like the waiting room of some dysfunctional clinic.

teeny it’s all good. If they were at an NYC jam session, they’d be kicked out for that. Those cats wouldn’t stand for that
