I have worked for the USFS for the last five years as a wildland firefighter and love seeing vintage FS stuff... I have much pride for that badge and what it represents.
Although I don't need a kit that big, it is always good to find and apply improvements to existing gear. I have, and will continue to say; ' anything offered by Self Reliance Outfitters" is and always has been FIRST QUALITY. The mixing bowl in the Forestry Service bag may also have been used as a wash pan to clean up the rest of the kit after meals,(or it probably could’ve been even if it wasn’t meant for that).
Hey David, When I was in the Scouts, we got those USFS kits from an Atlanta surplus company called "Old Sarge's." We packed them they had 4 cups, 4 plates, 4 bowls, and two skillets. One skillet on the bottom of the bag and one on top. We also packed rags in the bag so we could wash up with them or use the cloth as fire-making materials as they were usually some kind of greasy. Anyway. Nice kits.

I have had lots of different cook set over my life from my time in the Boy Scouts, hiking and in the Army, and now I have most of all your cook sets, when I get ready to take a trip I pull from them and take what I will need for that trip. I have almost every piece of your cookset. I bought the smaller bush pot in 2015. And have added to it since. Defensively want that coffee press. The cookset has served me well over the last few years. Keep making top notch gear and I will keep ordering merchandise.

I have a 1930s USFS road building book out of the Clearwater Region and it has a few pages on what kit they need to pack . They were very specific on cookware. Stuff like the size of skillets how many utensils to bring was all laid out in black and white. Super cool video. I love old school Forest Service stuff

I think one of the first videos of yours that I ever saw had that set in it and you were breaking it down explaining it. Of course, I had to get one similar. Very useful, very versatile kit.
The Pathfinder cookware has met my needs perfectly for cooking off a wood stove, or campfire while camping and hunting out of a wall tent. The fact that they nest together so tightly is a real treat when it's comes to packing everything back into the truck.
What I love about the Pathfinder stuff is that they put their own spin on it. Take the skillet for example. It appears identical to the MSR and Stanley pans, hell probably made in the same factory but the MSR doesn’t have a lid and the Stanley lid has holes in it. SRO lid has no holes so you can bake in it! Genius! Mr. Dave, you have an astonishing collection of rare items. How the hell do you accumulate this stuff??😅 In addition to my Cold Handle pans, my stainless/copper clad Everwear, Army Mountain cook set, some ancient leftover Boy Scout pots from the early 70’s, I now have my new SRO skillet, M40 kit, alcohol stove, grill, and that super cool multi-function pot stand for the stove! I absolutely love my pathfinder cookset . Waiting for the 10 inch skillet to become available and would hope you start marketing the French press kit for those of us who already own the 48 oz cup another item I think would be nice a bag that will hold the standard grayl and nesting cup and a 48 oz cup with a 64oz bottle in it and a double sized pouch on the front . That would make for a robust day or overnighter cook kit thank you for all you do in the bushcraft / self reliance community and Have a Happy new year !

Dave, I am glad you stick with quality metals. I have many different pieces of cook gear I bought over the years from you all and have never had one problem with any of them. I also have made up several different one-person cook sets using the WWII Swedish M44, and German military kits. I even made one with your 2-quart bush pot. I use alcohol stoves, propane stoves, and debris stoves to heat them. Each kit has all you need to prepare a meal. I use them for canteen cup Tuesday-type events. It is a hobby I enjoy. I have also made up a camp cook kit for me and my girlfriend when we go away. Several pieces of Pathfinder gear are in that kit. Thanks for bringing great gear to us all. I know I will be buying more of your stuff in the future.😊
I have your cook set the one you just showed there and I've got a couple extra of the Bush spots one of each extra I am highly satisfied with this not only does it go to the Bushcraft Community but also helps out and cooking in a camper or something like that takes up less space and it's very versatile

I’m excited to add that officer’s canteen to the Swedish cook set. Love the skillet I recently purchased as well. That heavy bottom makes a big difference with SS cook ware.

I keep your bush pot, round stove and plate in my emergency kit along with a GSI cup. A little clip-on handle turns the plate into a frying pan. Good stuff.
This is so cool I literally have an old Paul Revere set from the 1945 era copper bottom it's (a mors style Bush pot, coffee pot) not the same Handel but it's not the exact same pot but basically the same style with a lid with the size of your French press pot. and use it for my coffee maker boiling water so on since I was a teen from my grandfather 20 plus years now and I've used it forever because the fuel cylinder fits into the bottom of it with the stove and then the rest of my coffee making stuff on it for construction sites job sites hunting backpacking you name it. That's why I want to upgrade to a Pathfinder kit with a French press and so on and retire that old pot!
I like your cook sets and the bag that it comes in are important….looking forward to the Swiss bottle and cup, I have an old one and really like it although would like it to hold a little more water….
Dave, You work hard and I like the fact that you've mentioned the existence of the previously made cooksets by others, and this, since many many years. And you're cookset is pretty cool. Now, if I may suggest: The plates... they're too small. And there's an issue with the cups. No handle! People are going to burn their hands if they want a hot drink. As for the coffee press. That's a LARGE pot. You have two plates and 2 cups, right? That coffee pot is for 5 or 6 people easy. Here's my thought on this: BASIC KIT - 2 people - same as you have - smaller coffee pot - two larger plates - cups are an issue and the "diagonal" walls don't hold the liquid well. A "regular" cup with handle would be best (folding handle even better) "FAMILY KIT" - 4 people - same as you have - same coffee pot - FOUR larger plates - FOUR "regular" cups with handle. You would have THE perfect kits that way. Cheers from Canada!
Very cool. I would like to mention I got my Christmas gift from my wife - the Scorpion knife with the maple handle - and it's a beaut. REALLY fits well in my hand. I'm just beginning to trick it out with a ferro rod and cordage. It's a great knife.

I know I may be a little biased but the Pathfinder brand represents the very best of stainless steel cooking gear available in my opinion. Classic designs with thoughtful accessories, made with modern manufacturing from quality materials. I use mine at home and in the field and have always enjoyed every piece. I am definitely a proud affiliate and gladly promote the brand.
Going on monthly camp out with the Boy Scout we had a old scout patrol stackable cook set. I loved cooking with it. One of the best functions I found was I used it as a steamer to keep all my many parts of a meal warm to server as group warm. I simply took the big pot and filled it with 2 cups of water and boil it. Then I took the small pot and turned it upside down . This allow me to elevate the plates above the water .
The steam would keep the different parts of meal warm until it was ready to server. This way I was able to server a hot meal to everyone regardless howl long it took to cook the entire meal or how cold it was out side. The steam kept everything hot and moist.
You can use the French Press as a 1st step water purifier if needed as well. Much "safer" than using cotton, as you don't know what chemicals are in the cotton!
Good video! I have about all of the Pathfinder stainless steel cookware. If you don’t want anything poking out of the top of the largest bush pot: Put the lid on it then place the lid of the skillet upside down on top of that. Perfect fit😃
Even when I'm not particularly interested in the subject of the particular vid..I find myself watching your whole vids 💯. That's few and far between man. I recently found an old aluminum 2 pot European (I think) scout cook set at an antique store. I bought it because it's perfect for my solo outdoor needs. It has a third ring that the pots sit in with three rivets around the edges, the ring has no bottom some type of decorative cut outs and a leather strap/buckle connects to an edge to lock the pots down for packing...I can't figure out what the ring is for besides them sitting in it? Maybe the kit is missing a piece. There's a detached handle that clamps onto the pot lip when you squeeze. Still cool though.

Some insert sets I own from the eastern market for example use skillets with bat wing handles as their lids. I have one, but the quality of those handles is not quite satisfying. But I like the idea of double use of those lids.
I like your cook set but I like the idea of the mixing bowl as well, but that's just me, I like cooking over fire and out in the woods. To me, that's a big part of camping. Keep up the good work and God bless.
Mmm I have the military canteen set, the round bottle set, and the 64oz bottle and cup. I also bought the skillet, a cutting board 1, 6" plate the utensils too. I also bought that Swedish mess kit too. That will be here tomorrow. That will be it though no more stuff. I'm going to have to start saving. Got buy long term food. Thanks
Hey Dave! I think the camera you’re using is very bleached out in settings, as in it bleached the whole image. However when you inserted the image about the A&F catalogue, it went back to normal and looking good. Just wanted to let you know!
Most of all no aluminum. Everything wants to stick to aluminum. Sipping hot from a aluminum cup or bowl is guaranteed to burn you. I have no idea about titanium I think it may have the same problem. Steel, stainless steel or cast iron are my current choices. I have no idea why you don't have some nesting cups in your kit. You need enough for your crew and one or two for neighborly drop-ins. Other than that it looks like you have everything but that kitchen think. Also very reasonable weight depending on what you take along. I like that for a base camp.
Are you going to sell this as a complete set? With 4 cups and plates? Any luck with nesting cups? How about mixing bowl or two? I can’t wait to get it!!!

And Dave you know not everybody wants stainless steel ham but like I am more aluminum type person because I travel on a bicycle and familiar aluminum it’s just better and I wish that you would make a version of everything with aluminum and do you know or at least have the option even if it was per order

Really like the cook set. I’ve been gradually expanding the set with 4 plates and bowls and the fork knife and spoon sets. Is convenient and compact.
One thing that I would LOVE to get, and see you reproduce is the Preston Mess kit in stainless steel.

The mirror finished lid of the Pathfinder skillet makes a good emergency signaling device if kept clean.

Some insert sets I own from the eastern market for example use skillets with bat wing handles as their lids. I have one, but the quality of those handles is not quite satisfying. But I like the idea of double use of those lids.
I like your cook set but I like the idea of the mixing bowl as well, but that's just me, I like cooking over fire and out in the woods. To me, that's a big part of camping.

Mmm I have the military canteen set, the round bottle set, and the 64oz bottle and cup.
I also bought the skillet, a cutting board 1, 6" plate the utensils too.
I also bought that Swedish mess kit too. That will be here tomorrow.

I have the French press stand-alone. Use it every day. It’s good, but don’t put cold water in a hot stainless pot. It warps the bottom.
I wonder if the bushpot bag could be made like a canvas water bucket?

Hey Dave! I think the camera you’re using is very bleached out in settings, as in it bleached the whole image. However when you inserted the image about the A&F catalogue, it went back to normal and looking good. Just wanted to let you know!

Most of all no aluminum. Everything wants to stick to aluminum. Sipping hot from a aluminum cup or bowl is guaranteed to burn you. I have no idea about titanium I think it may have the same problem. Steel, stainless steel or cast iron are my current choices.
I have no idea why you don't have some nesting cups in your kit. You need enough for your crew and one or two for neighborly drop-ins. Other than that it looks like you have everything but that kitchen think. Also very reasonable weight depending on what you take along. I like that for a base camp.
Will the 10 inch skillet have walls high enough to use it as a chicken fryer type pan?
