Link, as a Massage Therapist, firstly, if I put gloves on it's typically because I have cut myself, and I ALWAYS MENTION IT. Just in case this exact situation happens! I have coworkers who have psoriasis, and when it flares up they wear gloves because the constant washing can really tear up their hands. It definitely wasn't you, and she should have said something. Don't hesitate to ask us questions! Most of the time we are silent if you are silent because some are really bothered by conversation. Lastly, we really prefer Therapist, not masseuse 👍🏼
Plus-- and I know they just said "latex" but they could have been nitrile-- but you need to mention it because of latex allergies. If it was actually nitrile, a person with the latex allergy might be really concerned and you need to respect that. Weird.
You seriously practice with open hand wounds?! At least where I'm from doing so would not only get you fired but you would likely loose your license as well. Pretty messed up you are risking your patients lives like that even if you ask them. How can you guarantee you haven't contracted a blood-borne illness? Do you get a full blood panel before every massage? Even with a glove you still sweat which will make its way out of the glove and onto the patient..
First off, life happens. Work doesn't stop because I'm clumsy. If the injury is severe of course I don't work because then it can't heal. Secondly, I don't know about your physiology, but my hands don't sweat. Plus I always have a bandage over my wound anyways. Cheers!
I know it's irrelevant, but; as someone who’s sensitive to latex and many common plants and shrubbery I definitely feel like it should be mandatory to give a client the heads up. Some people are even sensitive to the latex free material. I’d be pretty upset getting a nice massage and then start breaking out in painful rashes with bumps.
Amanda Derr i watched this whole episode and quickly noticed the odd tension between them two ... the chemistry is strange whenever i watch them now especially towards the second half of this vid
I’m super sensitive to latex and will break out in red rashes and lumps / bumps on my skin. I have to take benedryl to help. It can get uncomfortable. I found out I was sensitive when all my peers in middle school where pelting me every where with those red rubber balls. Everywhere that hit me I had broken out in ball size rashes. . What is really bizarre is I’m so sensitive to common plants and shrubbery yet I’ve never had poison oak etc..
I took this 16-personality test and I was overwhelmed by how accurate the result was. later I found that there is actually a huge amount of research behind it. I think it would be super interesting if you guys took it and talked about it!
Apparently I'm one of those good guys. I don't have kids, don't want them, prefer not to be around them, but without thinking, I will put myself in harm's way to protect a kid I don't know. I was walking through a parking lot and saw this tiny little boy trailing behind his mother (she wasn't looking). He was totally oblivious to his surroundings and the car he was about to walk behind started to back up. He was so small, there's no way the driver could have seen him. Without hesitation, I marched out into the path of the car to be a visible obstacle for the driver, only after I'd stepped into the way did I think "Geez, I hope they actually see me and stop." If they hadn't, at least my quick approach had gotten the boy's attention and he sped up to be with his mom. Sure, I probably wouldn't have died, but I'm generally fearful around moving vehicles.
That's called humanity. And same. Save a child, of course. Save an animal, of course. Save a grown adult, if the opportunity presents itself, sure. Haha
I really hate these questions. To say what I would do now is easy but in that moment of decision I will be faced with emotions not present now. But just to let you know Rhett and Link I had to deal with that traffic situation for 10 years. And I NEVER left a space. Because the drivers who stayed in a lane that ended and always wanted to cut in ticked me off.
Here’s my thoughts on the doctor dilemma: It’s similar to the trolley problem but different. If the one person has a way out/a cure, it’s as if they’re not on the tracks anymore. As far as they know they’ve stepped off the tracks and are waiting on the platform. (near the danger but not in direct line) Now to withhold their lifesaving medicine would be like pushing them off the platform into the train. If someone is working on the tracks they are aware of the risks that are associated; comparatively they tell the doctor it’s okay to use me if their’s no other way. But if someone has made it out of the danger zone and you pull them back into the situation, it’s not as easy as a 5 vs 1. P.s. Just saw you guys in #Milwaukee. I loved it!
It was sad and sweet how they both got so upset about the question about saving their niece or daughter 😔 that is an impossible and hopefully never met, situation to be in

As a nurse the second scenario was actually easy to answer lol you have to do what you can to save someone, it’s within your scope. Even if there were no laws, I would see it as life/god/whoever let those organs fail, and got this one person needing medicine, and of the two, it is a much more realistic outcome to save the person who needs medicine over the people who need organs. Because a lot of organ transplant recipients have to get multiple transplants over a lifetime because the organs reject over time, even with immunosuppressants. Whereas it could be a one time fix for this person who needs a rare medicine.
My friends dad is a bus driver. Back in March his bus was shot at. He was shot at 3 times, and managed to drive off saving his 12 passrengers. While he was saving 12, two others lost their lives, in a different way, resulting from the same gunman.
it’s hard to know exactly what you would do because you can never recreate the stress that you’d feel, and you never know the way you will react for certain. we can only hope that we never have to be faced with a situation where we have to find out.
This is so random, but I came back to this video because of a single sentence. "I think we're dealing with an ethical conundrum...so I killed her." When I first listened to this podcast, that took me so off guard and I laughed so hard. It was that moment that I realized Link's humor jives so well with my incredibly picky taste. Link's matter-of-fact delivery gets me every time.
It's a "massage therapist". "Masseuse" refers to women only and is typically used to refer to the seedier types of massages. Someone please tell them. Thank you.
I get in line and think really mean thoughts about people who cut in and I do EVERYTHING IN MY POWER to not let anyone cut directly in front of me, even if it means riding the bumper of the person in front of me or letting my car take up 2 lanes...
I started laughing at "Ill make the dice", and then fell apart at "you go take a nap, im not gonna take the antibiotic and refill it with ocean water" 46:17 🤣👍💫😂

if rhett and link took a college intro to ethics class this would be even more interesting and would be interesting to see how it would be different. But that's inpossible because they live their ethics everyday so inherently they would change as people

I think this is the first time I have watched an entire ear biscuits episode. I have watched parts of many, but never had the time to watch a whole one
(The Glove Situation) It might of just been that the masseuse had a rash(or other problem) and didn't want to touch you with it... but then again, I think most people in that situation would just call in sick.
I would agree with Rhett in saying the trolley problem is an easy conundrum to parse out, but I would say it's easy for me to say I would NOT pull the lever. If that really happened to me I think my mental state afterwards would be more stable if I didn't take any action. Plus, I don't think I'm in any position to decide what lives, or what amount of lives are worth preserving. I say let nature run its course. Of course, if nobody was on the second track I'd pull the lever. I'm not a sociopath. Deciding to take one life to spare multiple others just doesn't feel like something I could ever do.
I think it depends on the relationship you have with them. I have half brothers I grew up in the same home with. I also have a half sister that I've never actually met. I call my brothers just that, brothers, but I call the girl my half sister.
The train / trolley dilemma is also called the psychopath test. It's not about the answer to the question but rather how you came to that answer. A normal person will struggle over the dilemma and take time to think about it where as a potential psychopath just picks an answer seemingly not bothered by the moral conundrum.
I appreciate y’all talking about your masseuse using gloves. I have eczema and as a hairstylist I use gloves most days especially when shampooing and using styling product. I always wondered if I should say something or just try to be discreet.
With the island antidote thing --- it depends on the friend I guess? We'd have to agree on who has the better chance to survive on their own... we'd probably drag out the decision as long as possible. What a sad conundrum :/
Well if they are using latex gloves did they even ask if you had an allergy before they started? cause yea. I imagine they were using vinyl or nitril because latex would be pretty crazy
Link, I've had a massage where the masseuse wore latex gloves--when I asked why, she clarified that she had something healing on her hands, and it's their policy or something that if that's the case, they have to wear gloves.
I feel like killing someone who is trying to hurt me is the only logical argument that makes sense in killing someone because the act of taking someone's life is truly horrible.
@@OOO_BARRACUDAAA Even though this is an old comment, I probably meant in the moment, as self defense. Sometimes you have to defend someone in the moment.
I highly recommend watching the movie circle if you enjoy these discussions. That movie raises these exact questions in a sci-fi setting. It's on netflix.
#earbiscuits if prunes are dried plums, then where does prune juice come from? #earbuscuits if you punch yourself and it hurts, are you weak or strong?
As a therapist I can tell you that there are a number of reasons why your therapist may have been wearing gloves. They may have had a cut on their hand, or a hangnail, or even a Band-Aid and it's a safer and clean way to do a massage. I didn't have to do that one time
An app like shallow would probably never work (in the specific 3D way you set up). If you rely on your arm to scan your face, even the best AI will never know where your arm messed up so you would have VERY UNEVEN faces because you did not keep the right distance when turning your arm xD It is a great idea but it would need properly aligned equipment that scans you and you have to be stationary like a dentist xray machine. Everythign else will have errors :D Unless you scrap the 3D image and you just allow the camera recording from them going around their face to play back, that would be doable :D
I find it funny how this episode was released in the exact same month as Shingeki no Kyojin episode 55 (S3E18) Great listen though! I am kinda thinking Rhett and Link would enjoy watching SnK for more than one reason
I was called to a suspicious person in a parking lot. I ran the plate, and it came back as a car involved in a shooting. So, I approached him and we started talking. After talking for a few minutes I turned my head for one second, heard a bang, and felt like someone had hit me in the chest with a baseball bat. After a second or two I knew he had shot me. I ran back to get cover and he jumped out trying to shoot me in the back. I turned around, fired 6 times and all my rounds hit. He died on the scene. Since then, I've wrestled with the question. Who am I, just a man, to end another man's life. It's not something you get over. You learn to live with the fact that you did what you had to do. Even if you didn't want to. You had no choice to do what you did if you wanted to stay alive.
The thing about the Mindfield episode is; sure, at this moment where no action is happening, it's easy to say "oh I'd definitely pull the lever to save people." But that's what Michael wanted to witness: in the heat of moment, with real lives on the line (in this case not really, as it was a simulation), what would people *actually* do? And surprisingly, a few didn't touch the lever. I believe a couple broke down in tears after it was revealed no one was harmed.
For the trolley problem, I would pull the lever. We don't live in a vacuum, it's so much easier to save one incapacitated person on a track before they get hit than five incapacitated people. Other people could be around and save the one person. Pulling the lever ultimately gives everyone the best chance at surviving as opposed to not pulling the lever. As for the Medical conundrum, it totally depends on whether the specific medicine for the one person is available. If not, it's not a conundrum. If it is, then it's an ethical question. I think I would give the medicine to the person though, because a doctor can't not give the medicine to the person.
When I was 7 years old, a home intruder who was severely mentally ill broke into my home with intentions to kill my family and I. My parents called the cops, and they didn’t show up very punctually to put it politely. Long story short, the guy was 6’5” and became extremely violent, and my dad had to take his life on account of saving our lives. How exactly would anyone argue that it was still not okay to kill that guy?
This was the funniest one you guys did yet, and probably my favorite so far. I kept laughing throughout the whole thing. Especially from Link's jokes, and I'm not ashamed to say that this pun 44:16 had me laughing the most. This was a really good one, and interesting too! Loved it! Made my boring paperwork actually fun! 😊😁💕
The on ramp question should be clarified as a “single person in the car using the carpool on-ramp lane vs being in the regular lane to skip the line”. It raises the question of do those people think their time is more valuable?
Yesterday i watched (I Am Mother) the movie, and today i listened to this podcast which rhett and link talked about the same canundrum at 25:00 which was on the movie..... WAW!
I feel like the only way you could negotiate the island scenario (as opposed to letting fate decide) would be to figure out who is most likely to survive on the island after the antidote is taken. If you aren't going to be able to survive anyway, you probably shouldn't be the one taking the antidote.
I set up my Google home so that when I say "it's sexy time" my lights in my room turn to sensual colors, my lava lamp turns on and Google starts playing Barry White
I just want to start out by saying I’m a huge fan. Rhett and Link you’ve honestly impacted my life such a positive way. My family and girlfriend love gmm and I also listen to ear biscuits all the time. This comment is meant to be as sincere as possible. I am a massage therapist. I’ve listened to all the ear biscuits including the ones you talked in detail about your massage experience. And to be honest it makes me slightly cringy. First and foremost. We are not masseuses. We are Massage Therapists. We’ve spent 2 years in school studying anatomy, muscular skeletal, kinesiology, etc. At the end we take a huge medical exam given by the board of nursing. A masseuse is used nowadays to refer to a person who has received little to no schooling and is working at an establishment that is mostly used for “happy endings”. Gloves are used for people who either have skin diseases that are contagious or it could be as simple as the therapist had a cut on their hand and needed to keep it covered. Rhett I’m super happy to hear that you enjoyed your massage with a male. I wish so many other males would put aside any homophobia and understand we are here to do a job. We are trained to keep your modesty protected. In general no matter who gets on our tables we look at everyone the same. Just a body with muscles, bones, and skin that we need to work on. Massage helps so many people day in and day out manage chronic pain and relieve medical symptoms. Therapists need to communicate better that is true. And it also helps to communicate before and during a session because at the end of the day it’s your massage. Thanks guys if you’re reading this.
Also, if you can’t get over, you mess with the cars behind you trying to keep going straight. Could cause a wreck. Shit like that piss me off so bad when I’m driving.
I’d like to think of the both of you loving each other too much to choose yourselves so you go down together ... or one of you plays like you’d do that but then forces one to wear the parachute and pushes the other out .. probably Rhett pretending like he’s gonna let you die with him but then chooses to save link and pushes him out with the parachute .. that sounds like a damn good movie I would watch and bawl my eyes out
“If we both die, I can live with that.” 👏🏼. 😂💖

A normal person will struggle over the dilemma and take time to think about it where as a potential psychopath just picks an answer seemingly not bothered by the moral conundrum.
When Rhett says "Business Time" I imagine "Flight of the Conchords" is on that playlist. It's probably not but it makes me laugh.
Honestly that was the hardest one for me to decide on out of all of them
Well if they are using latex gloves did they even ask if you had an allergy before they started? cause yea. I imagine they were using vinyl or nitril because latex would be pretty crazy
Your guy's voices are amazing
I’ve watched that movie that you mentioned, Rhett, about the guy who pushed the guy off the mountain. It was very interesting and kind of a cool story
Took me a good minute to realize what sorting the mail was code for
Grim Gogeta link used that metaphor in a previous ear biscuit
I was like why r they having segs while sorting mail??XD
Link, I've had a massage where the masseuse wore latex gloves--when I asked why, she clarified that she had something healing on her hands, and it's their policy or something that if that's the case, they have to wear gloves.
this is such a good episode
Wow. I was literally just talking about this before you posted it.
I feel like killing someone who is trying to hurt me is the only logical argument that makes sense in killing someone because the act of taking someone's life is truly horrible.
Or hurt your loved ones. Or hurt innocent people... There could be all sorts of situations.
@@Future_Pheonix that is what the justice system is for unless it fails. I agree with the original comment. Self defense is the only way.
@@OOO_BARRACUDAAA Even though this is an old comment, I probably meant in the moment, as self defense. Sometimes you have to defend someone in the moment.
This was a super interesting conversation, my husband and I enjoyed the discussion.
I highly recommend watching the movie circle if you enjoy these discussions. That movie raises these exact questions in a sci-fi setting. It's on netflix.
In society, it’s horrible. If it’s self defense and your in danger, then I believe there’s a point where you need to in order to save yourself.
#earbiscuits if prunes are dried plums, then where does prune juice come from?
#earbuscuits if you punch yourself and it hurts, are you weak or strong?
wow this was a great ear biscuit for a number of reasons #EarBiscuits
If you try to merge back into the lane after i've waited - i'm not letting you in. Some people might, but I won't
As a therapist I can tell you that there are a number of reasons why your therapist may have been wearing gloves. They may have had a cut on their hand, or a hangnail, or even a Band-Aid and it's a safer and clean way to do a massage. I didn't have to do that one time
I love how link says _FABULOUS_
An app like shallow would probably never work (in the specific 3D way you set up). If you rely on your arm to scan your face, even the best AI will never know where your arm messed up so you would have VERY UNEVEN faces because you did not keep the right distance when turning your arm xD
It is a great idea but it would need properly aligned equipment that scans you and you have to be stationary like a dentist xray machine. Everythign else will have errors :D
Unless you scrap the 3D image and you just allow the camera recording from them going around their face to play back, that would be doable :D
I find it funny how this episode was released in the exact same month as Shingeki no Kyojin episode 55 (S3E18)
Great listen though!
OMG RHETT I LOVE MAC AYRES!!! (both of y'all are awesome! great podcast)
I just love everything you guys put out there!!! Thank you so much!!! ❤❤❤❤❤
How exactly would anyone argue that it was still not okay to kill that guy?
link is like Chidi from The Good Place. So indecisive haha
edit: where can i find rhett’s baby making playlist? i need that ish.
Holy shit Links comment about throwing the question towards the 5 in need was genius. Made me think more than most stuff
Jeez. I feel you brother. My masseuse is also very particular about wearing rubber
This is one of my favorite episodes😂😂👐🏼❤️
That massage therapist should absolutely have said something about the gloves. Latex allergy is relatively common.
I’d like to think of the both of you loving each other too much to choose yourselves so you go down together ... or one of you plays like you’d do that but then forces one to wear the parachute and pushes the other out .. probably Rhett pretending like he’s gonna let you die with him but then chooses to save link and pushes him out with the parachute .. that sounds like a damn good movie I would watch and bawl my eyes out
I love Rhett's jokes. shortened good lover "glover" hahaha
