  • Loaded Coke Train Crosses Giant Railroad Trestle Over The River! Mixed Freight Trains & Local Railroad Switching Freight Trains In Chillicothe, Ohio On The Norfolk Southern Heartland Corridor. This is a great Railfan hotspot that a bike trail leads to and goes under the big railroad bridge over the Scioto River. One railroad track was abandoned years ago. We got some fast trains with all kinds of freight coming from both directions. This line runs between Chicago and Norfolk, Virginia and services Columbus, Ohio. This route was improved for double stacks in 2010 after lowering floors in tunnels and notching the corners in some tunnels. Other improvements were made also starting in 2007. This is a very busy line with a train about every hour or so. I rode up here with @1960gambit and we parked at Strawser Park and walked a short distance on the bike trail to get to the railroad bridge. I could not find a date on it. Does anyone know anything about it? Leave a comment below. The best frequencies here are 161.190 and 452.9375 and use 160.230 if you want to listen to the nearby CSX line.

That coke train with just a single loco up front, awesome, I was expecting a DPU !! A train that size in the UK would need about 3 locomotives. Thanks again for posting your great videos, from a downbeat Great Britain, RIP to our former monarch Queen Elizabeth.

Keep in mind that coke weighs about half of what coal does. So even though those are 100 ton hoppers, they are probably carrying only 50 tons of coke each. Still impressive for 1 unit!

hey man, thanks for posting these videos from chillicothe, where i was born and raised. i remember seeing N&W trains with alcos on point crossing this bridge. these tracks used to cross the B&O a few blocks away and the sound the N&W made crossing the B&O doubletrack leading into the yard was something to hear! the B&O (later chessie system) trains usually didn't cross the diamond going more that 20mph or so, as they were entering or leaving the yard. back when i was twelve or thirteen, i used to spend afternoons hanging out with the chessie dispatcher at the old station that burned down a while ago. maybe we'll cross paths somehow next time i visit ohio; i usually take some time to chase trains between chillicothe and portsmouth. one of my goals during my next visit to ohio is to try and follow the CSX northern sub from chillicothe to the ohio river. when i look at google earth and maps, it looks like this might not be easy.
try watching trains at the overpass on ohio SR361 between SR159 and US23. there's a grain elevator on the south sides that makes for cool shots with the southern ohio hills in the background.
    again, thanks for posting!

The Rail Traffic Control technology has changed since the track was laid, thus increasing possible single-track capacity, but the double-track width of the bridge deck illustrates the vision of early railway builders who did not hesitate to build, for a very marginal increase in construction cost, this wonderful double-track bridge structure. 2022/09/10. You should film around Eastern Ave by the "smell of money" the paper mill. Also check out Douglas Ave by the grain mill. And if you head down Riverside towards town you will see the old railroad Bridge. I believe also kinda across from that bridge is the old printing building that I believe still show remnants of the old tracks.

Where you were attempting to prune the brush and notice how close the Brown Line of weed spray was to it as it left quite a swath in the grass. Great selection of freights and the unit Coke train livened things up. Judging by the size of the cars the first train was Old Coke and the.taller cars were the ill fated New Coke. JT I think the local Freight was a run by special just for you because they were the same cars going down and coming back. The tanker PNWX is PNW Railcar a div of Mitsubishi Capital and the AEX covered Hopper which is still lettered for Cedar Rapids & Iowa City(was CIC) and when delivered had the name of an employee painted in the upper corner. Maybe CCET can name some of their rock hoppers for your family and the trusty pets

You are definitely a very observant viewer... noticing the extent of coverage by the weed-sprayer! Just curious as to whether you have a railroading background?
Also, I noticed your last name. My family includes some Bergen's on the maternal side who spent some time in Virginia. Take care.

@@cheryltysver4819 i grew up in a Milwaukee Road family but never worked for a railroad but I've always been interested in transportation. Sometimes it gets boring Trackside so you start looking for the small details to help pass the time and also I enjoy reading about Railroad and Industry history. As for the family name they arrived in the US in the late 1880s and made a beeline to the Midwest so no relatives East of Chicago. A lot of my friends always kid me about knowing some trivial railroad item but I think it also helps keep the Mind Sharp. Thanks for reading the old rare and obscure

Your background is interesting. My family lineage goes back to Chicago also. That's where my grandmother on the maternal side was from. The connections there were Mc- Farlands who were involved with GM in the early days. Part of the family relocated to
central Virginia and got into farming as well as the automotive side of things. At last contact the Bergen's were working at UVA
      (as of the mid 60's).
I worked with CSX for ~ 40 years as an engineer... and also was a legislative representative for ~ 20 years and got involved with multiple safety programs
including Operation Red Block, Hazardous materials and (can you guess) Herbicide application protocols! It's been a pleaîsure.
Let me know if any of the above family matters sounds familiar...ì
Take care and pray for November!
