love this! you are so good! We rinse dye powder off our equipment into jars so no dye goes into the water system. When the jars gets dark (full of dyes) we pour them onto skeins and create 'jar skeins" or one of a kind colourways. These have become highly sought after colourways, and keep our New Zealand waterways clean.
Autumn, you do a wonderful job actually explaining the process, and WHY you actually do something. The reason why. I love watching and learning. Thanks for spending the time. Pat, at the NJ Shore.
I don’t plan on hand dying yarn at all, but I love using hand dyed yarn in my projects. I watched you fist video and will watch this one and others. I have found it very interesting to see how things are done. Thank you very much for doing these videos. Nancy 😁🧶
Thank you so much. I appreciate you support of not only my channel but my business as well. If you haven't already please feel free to sign up for my newsletter for shop updates and to see what's new. I love that my yarn can be used by others to create something special. I would love to see what you make with my yarn in the future.
Hello! queria darte las gracias por la ayuda que me das para empezar este hermoso camino de teñido que vengo soñando hace tanto tiempo, estoy aprendiendo muchisimo!!! // I wanted to thank you for the help you give me to start this beautiful dyeing path that I have been dreaming of for so long, I am learning a lot !!
You're welcome and thank you. My basics of dyeing yarn is the next best thing to a class and there will be more of these videos soon so look out for them.
If for example I needed to use a cup of citric acid solution and had to substitute with vinegar I would just use the same amount of vinegar straight from the jug, not diluted with water.
Thank you so much for making these videos, they have been super helpful! I was wondering what primary colors you use from Dharma as your yr basic Red blue and yellow. Do you get warm and cool of each? TIA
I have so many dyes. I do believe I have all of their dyes marked as primaries. I don't pay attention to warm and cool colours, I just go with my gut and put together what looks good to me.
Hello. Hope you're fine, thank you for the time you always take to explain. Please I have a question it is heat and acid that stick the colour to the yarn if I understood well, if I want to tie a silk scarf for example will I heat it first before pouring the powder colour or liquid into it to stick the colour ? With the acid of course
I have a question! How long do you have your dye pots soak up the dye when doing immersion dying for solid colours, after adding the acid? Do you just keep it hot until there is no more dye in the water?
After the dye has been absorbed the colour also needs time to heat set. The dye company you use will give recommended set times so I suggest following that. Since I sell the yarn I need to be a bit extra so I usually heat set for a minimum of 5 hrs. My yarn is set with steam so I can leave it for long periods of time without fear of scorching it.
Hello Sheryl. I’ve asked a few dyers a question about dharma dyes, however none use dharma, then while researching you I remember you use dharma dyes. I was given a recipe for a colour I really like, however I can’t get this colour. It’s dharma 482 Delphinium Blue. My question to you is, does jacquard or any other make of dyes, have a colour that would be a replacement? I looked everywhere in Canada for dharma. None. Thank you

I love your videos. Could you tell me the vinegar /water ratio please? Or is it the same as the citric acid. Thanks for sharing🙃

Your giving all your trade secrets away. 🤫
Not really, this information can be found in any book about dyeing.

If you contact Dharma they may be able to suggest a dye that would work for you.
Thank you
I can’t find part 1 🤔
This is the first video in the series and I will be adding more in the near future.
