Sheryl, thank you so much for all the knowledge and joy you put out in the world! You quickly became my primary source of knowledge for yarn dying and I continuously refer back to your videos when I’m faced with a mystery to solve. Your lovely personality and energy is just a breath of fresh air and I just want to say thank you!!❤
Hi everyone. Thank you for watching my series on hand dyeing yarn - the basics. It's been a joy to create these videos, however they do take a lot of time and effort. Over the next month or so I will be moving to a new location which will involve setting up a new dye space. I won't be doing many videos if any during this time but hope to have new content as soon as I'm settled. Until then I wish you all the best of health and look forward to sharing new things with you soon. Sheryl, EOA
Essence of Autumn Yarn thankyou Sheryl, you are just so lovely, we appreciate what you do for us to share and teach us more about hand dyed yarn, thankyou 💝
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge! I’m just starting out knitting and want to dye some yarn for myself and your generosity has been greatly appreciated 💕🌸 gorgeous calm energy you are a delight to watch. Thanks again from downunder in Australia. Stay safe and happy 💃🥰
You're welcome and thank you for watching. It's so great to be able to share what I've learned with people all over the world. Congrats on the start of your knitting journey, I'm sure it will quickly become a delightful obsession. Wishing you and your family the best of health.
This series has been not only super helpful but also so inspiring! Your hard work and artistry shows so clearly through these videos as well as your generosity in sharing this info for free!! Thank you for the knowledge and inspiration, from a budding yarn dyer.
Thank you so much for the kind words. Comments like yours encourage me to put out more videos. I have dye tutorials in the works for this series so stay tuned.
I have just discovered your wonderful series on fiber prep and dyeing. I really enjoy the way you present it all, you are very easy to listen to and your instruction is clear and precise. Very, very helpful!! Thank you!
Thank you for sharing these videos they are wonderful. Your voice is very calming and the videos very clear. I dye yarn and find it very soothing especially while we are in Stage 4 Lockdown here in Melbourne, Australia. Good luck with your move and I look forward to seeing how you have settled in and watch more of your informative videos. Thank you so much. Liz
Thank you so much for these videos! I am just starting on my dying adventures and I am working my way through these. I love your warm energy and how you share your knowledge and wisdom!!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I’ve had dye and yarn for a year now and have been to intimidated. I just need to purchase a few more items and I think I will muster up the courage and get started. 😀
You're welcome. Don't be intimidated, it's only string. You may create some really ugly yarn at first but that's ok because you will learn things as well so that your next attempts will be more successful. Just have fun and go for it.
I adore these videos and you really are so wonderful at explaining everything. I’m buying my first little dye kit on Monday, as I want to try it, and I’m glad there’s now a resource I can refer to if I get a little lost. 😊
Thank you so much for this series! I have always wanted to try dying my own yarn but never known where to start! Your yarns are so beautiful, if I’m able to create anything half as lovely as yours when I pluck up the courage to try, then I’ll be happy
I'm so glad you're enjoying this series. I have more videos coming that may give you a bit more confidence. Remember it's only string, nothing scary about that😉.
I just found your videos and am learning soooooo much!!!!! One question, after using portable hot plates for so long and by the video so many different kinds, is there a specific brand or unit you would recommend???
Hi! That was a kind explanation. I'm going to buy a warming oven to your advice. I'm curious about the temperature of the warming oven you use. Can you tell me?
I purchased new. I just went to the nearest restaurant supply to me (which was still 3 hrs away) and bought the model I could afford. The price was the deciding factor for me not so much how it performed. I think all proofers no matter the brand will work the same you just have to decide how much you want to spend.

I just found your videos and am learning soooooo much!!!!! One question, after using portable hot plates for so long and by the video so many different kinds, is there a specific brand or unit you would recommend???
I'm glad my videos are helpful. I just chose hotplates that had good reviews and were at the right price point for me.
Thankyou so much, fabulous 😁
You’re welcome 😊. Glad you enjoyed.
Hi! That was a kind explanation. I'm going to buy a warming oven to your advice. I'm curious about the temperature of the warming oven you use. Can you tell me?
The max is around 200 deg.
What is the temperature of the oven?
The dye manufacturer will recommend the temp you should use to set the dye properly so just follow that.
Do you ever have issues with the yarn being hotter at the top of the proofer than the yarn at the bottom? Does this impact your consistency?
No issues, the proofer gives me even heat throughout.
@@EssenceofAutumnYarn Thanks for your response! Did you buy yours new or used? Any brands I should stay away from?
I purchased new. I just went to the nearest restaurant supply to me (which was still 3 hrs away) and bought the model I could afford. The price was the deciding factor for me not so much how it performed. I think all proofers no matter the brand will work the same you just have to decide how much you want to spend.
Would a slow cooker work?
Yes. Just remember that if it is used for dyeing it can no longer be used for food.
Could I use like a crock pot
I haven't personally but there are videos on youtube where it's used for dyeing. Once you do though it should never be used again for food.
