- Flight Review: Hobbyking Durafly Excalibur
Here's my review of the Excalibur after I had flown it a few times. This plane exceeds all my expectations and it's one of the best I have.
Hope you enjoy the video and thanks for watching. :)

Another trick I learned with a glider w/o flaps that has a big prop- you can give it about 5% - 10% throttle, just enough to get the prop spinning out in the wind stream, but not giving the plane any forward momentum. This acts like a giant air brake and really slows the plane down a lot. It is a little tricky at first, but you can get the feel for it easily. Then right before touchdown, go to 0% throttle and let the prop fold to avoid prop strike. I do that every landing with my Radian XL now and I don't even need flaps or spoilers.
+BWX Hmm, that sounds interesting, I might need to try that next time. Thanks for the tip. 👍🏼
I've been struggling with that and was just recently thinking the same, will try this next time :)
This method works a treat I do this with my Blaze as it goes a lot quicker with no prop than with a tiny amount of prop
'Crow' requires flaps + ailerons, ie flaps down and both ailerons up (usually at max). Camber is flaps and ailerons down (5-10%), while 'Reflex' is both up (5-10%). As posted below, in ailerons only mode, the up position is usually referred to as "Spoilerons" as they spoil the air flow and the down position is as you said "flaperons".
Recently got my Excalibur and had just 4 flights so far and agree it is a great plane. The hatch is a must glue/fix from the start as I lost my hatch on the maiden but never saw it disappear!
Definitely agree on spoilerons and I have a 3 position switch for off/50/100% deflection and didn't need to add in any elevator correction.
That is excellent!! Thank you very much for the explanation of all those modes. I was not sure which one it was I was doing, but glad it was clear enough to understand.
You are correct also that no mix in elevator is needed when using spoilerons and I have it set pretty much as you do with off/50%/100% deflection. Happy to hear it's working out for you and that you're enjoying the plane.
Thank you again for your detailed comment and for watching. :)
Lazarus Long : Excellent tuition on the difference between crow / spoilerons / flaperons :)
Great plane review Vas. I really like the sound of this plane when it whizzes past. Makes me want one!
Craig Preston thank you, Craig. :) Glad you enjoyed it.
Great video!
Now they have the V2, I just bought mine yesterday as of 03-24-2023
Don't worry about the proper wording because we all know the function.
The description is "flaperons" they slow down and put slight down pressure by bleeding off the lift as it lands so it will not life off again
Thank you for the video it was very informative!
LOL That wind was insane. Nice flying there.
Sensational to see you've picked up one of these bad boys. It really is such a great flyer. I really enjoyed that you put it up in that crazy wind! Nice job Vas!
Thanks Micheal. Yeah, it was a but-clenching couple of minutes there, but the plane took it well (and so did I). I surprise myself sometimes and I was quite pleased to have land safely. It's such a great plane to fly and I'm so glad I got one for myself. Thanks for watching. :)
Awesome in depth review mate. Nothing gets the heart pumping more than a maiden!!! keep em coming :D
+Fly Tyme Thank you so much. Glad you enjoyed it. :)
Been watching you for a couple of years Vas, mainly to get info on RC cars mods. I must say, now being part of your journey with planes and flying, your channel is awesome. My teenage son and I are big fans - keep it up :) Cheers from Canberra
MrJorgie73 Thank you so much Jorgie, really appreciate that and glad you're enjoying the channel.
Great review Vas!! your videos are very well put together
Unfortunately, where I live the wind is like this 99% of the time. So I've only ever owned 1 plane and crashed it beyond repair on it's maiden flight. lol.
Turnigy nano-tech 4S 2250 is a great batt for this plane. Point it upwards and it just keeps on going.
Great content
Awesome video,Keep it up!
Thank you, sir. :)
In Canada we call that "spoilerons"
In Belgium too.. ;-)
I use spoilerons on my EFXTRA, should work for you .
I enjoy my Excalibur for all the EXACT same reasons you do , especially the whistle !
Excellent review! I owned aDurafly Dynamic S years ago, very similar design, they fly fast and are very airobatic. They are very strong however a warning is if you ever have a crash make sure everything is Reinforced, i had nothing but trouble with mine after a minor crash. The prop hitting the canopy is wat happened with mine also, other than that reckon i might just go an buy me an Excaliber!
Thank you very much. I'm sure you'll love the Excalibur, it's an awesome plane. :)
Keep it up!
ON THE EXCALIBUR IF YOU GIVE IT 5% THROTTLE IT WANTS TO GO, BUT IF YOU PUSH YOUR THROTTLE TO IT'S LOWEST POSSIBLE POINT TO WHERE THE PROP JUST SPINS THEN IT WILL SLOW IT DOWN SLIGHTLY. Aussie RC Playground, I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW TO SET UP CAMBER WITH MY "EX" AND DX6 TRANS.
Hello , in Catalunya we call that Spoilerons
the rubber band fix,lol I didn't that on my 2meter power glider,it's also hard to land need heaps of room I'm liking this Excalibur thou gonna pick one up,only issue this will cash will come outta my Walkers Vitus coins 😂
I love the aircraft and love your practical review. Are you in Sydney? I am, and like that sports ground you fly in - lots of room and few people. Looks like Western Sydney. Where is it? Thanks for the great intro to the plane.
Have you got your air brake setup on your esc?? 😊
awesome video
Thank you, Joseph. :)
great review
a question on the crow
could you please list how you set it up on the receiver and transmitter .
Did you need to MIX the aileron with the v-tail ? did you add down trim on vtail when ailerons are up ?
thanks
you'd love DLG's
Hey Vass i know its been a while but i think its a good time to ask, hows it this plane is it worth buying 2020.
Absolutely. Still one of my favorite planes, if not my favorite. It's such a pleasure to fly. Love it. 😊👍
@@AussieRCPlayground Awesome thanks bro :)
Hi
Can you share how you setup crow braking on it , receiver connection , Tx programming , etc
Thanks
Cat it fly with 3s lipo?
Yes, it can. I have flown it with a 2200mah 3S before, but you may need extra weight in the nose. The plane flys fine with a 3S and still has a lot of power, it just needs a little weight to get the CG right.
@@AussieRCPlayground Wow, that awesome.
blivit duktig att flyga
Whitch type of accu work it best?
the Pläne is linke the wow from hype or the blaze from yuki,,,, Great Plane for his money
Wow muti-plex blizzard clone
Ailerons up= reflex
Yes, you are right, but in this case it calls spoilerons.
Reflex is for speed mode, relex with high angel is for hight drag and sink rate and call spoilerons :D
