Experience Boscobel House and the Royal Oak | New for 2021

- We are delighted to share with you a major representation project at Boscobel House and the Royal Oak.
Both the house and the tree became famous as hiding places of the future King Charles II after defeat at the Battle of Worcester in 1651. This led to one of the greatest adventure stories of all time and a pivotal point in the history of England, celebrated to this day by over 500 pubs named the Royal Oak.
The new on-site experience is themed around Hide and Seek, and we’ve also re-introduced animals to Boscobel’s farmyard for the first time in over 100 years. The gardens, farmyard, and play area will be open from 12 April 2021, and the house from 17 May.

I would love to have a "Reenactment Town" where people could come stay and live in the past. But I'm broke so we would have to recreate the Stone Age and live under trees.

I am from India and have always been obsessed with British history . Thanks for this post . You have corrected me via this posting : I used to think that it was Charles the First who hid in the Royal Oak before he was discovered and executed . I did not know it was his son Charles the Second . Thanks for letting me know .

What a wonderful job you have done. It will look amazing when the oaks are full grown. I remember the story from one of the earlier videos tales with Kathy Hipperson. I would love to have a playground like this one.

This is such a unique and innovative exhibit concept that sounds as if it will be just THRILLING to visit! I can only begin to imagine the amount of work it took create this. If I didn't live on another continent, I'd be there in a heart beat!

17th century architecture is beautiful
So the story goes anyway!😂 The candles are really cool idea and all the planting of trees is wonderful! Bringing the place back to life and the way it used to look like and be farmed is absolutely my thing! Pity you're so far away!
Reminds me of the novel "Wickham's Second Attempt"...there is a mention of Pemberley hosting Charles the Second when the king is detained in Derbyshire. So interesting that this was similar to an actual historical event!
Been there in the mid nineties . Took part in a civil war reenactment group "the siege group " and met a really sweet english heritage guide.

This is beautifully done !! Bravo 👏🏼👏🏼 I live for my family history now that I’ve begun researching ! I really enjoy learning more and more about the history of my family . The best is to see the areas where some of my ancestors lived . Great job restoring this beautiful place it’s like Heaven on Earth , I could live there easily .

I assume the oak tree had more leaves on it. 'Oh, look at that enormous oigeon'.
I remember from a previous video they said the current tree isn't the original tree as the previous one had to be removed because it had diseased but they took a chunk of it and replanted this tree (something along those lines).

When international touristry resumes (which I dearly hope it soon will,) I would LOVE to visit Boscobel House. It looks very interesting and so beautiful. I’m particularly impressed with how tasteful the restorations and additions look - not tacky like many tourist attractions tend to be!

If Charles had died at Boscabaol, it is unlikely that James, Duke of York would have been the subject of the restoration perhaps leading to one of Charles I'd daughters becoming Queen somewhat earlier, which might have short-circuited some interesting events.
