    The Friedman Runt 50 is a 50-watt all tube head that delivers Friedman's legendary tone in a versatile 2-channel amp. The Runt-50 power section is driven by two EL-34s, with four 12AX7s in the preamp. The American-inspired clean channel features volume, bass, treble, and a three-position bright switch that delivers anything from pristine cleans to a slightly broken-up blues/country tone.
    The heart and soul of the Runt-50 is the overdrive channel, which will take you from classic rock to all-out assault. Use the Boost switch and Gain knob to dial in the perfect amount of overdrive. A global presence control shapes the high-frequency response of the Runts power section.
    The Runt delivers the tight bottom end and midrange that is typically only found in much higher-wattage amps by utilizing custom transformers and the cleanest signal path possible. The Runt is ideal for many styles of music from blues to classic rock and heavy metal by merely adjusting the gain and master controls.
    Plugging into the Runt, you will instantly notice the harmonically rich detailed chords and resonating single note lines. This amp cleans up exceptionally well with the guitar’s volume knob, even with the amp on higher gain settings.
    This is the first amp Dave Friedman has ever made with a cab-simulated XLR output. Comparing this analog circuit to some of the most intricate computer-based IRs, Dave achieved a direct output you can proudly send to front of house or use in the studio. The XLR output includes a ground-lift, level, and center/edge of speaker cone simulation switches.
    This Runt was designed to take pedals well and loves boosts, ODs, phasers, flangers, tremolos, and wahs. The ultra-transparent no tone loss, buffered, series effects loop takes time-based effects pedals and rack units equally well. The head cabinet features beautiful black Tolex, with Baltic birch construction, and is built to withstand the rigors of the road.

      Mesa Boogies are highly overpriced, and highly overrated.Friedman blows them away. Listen to Joss. You won't regret it. I assure you. The best amp out on the market, and also the best that Friedman makes is the BE-50 Deluxe. $300 short of being 2k more. Go to Sweetwater.Com, and with their payment plans, you can afford most anything. I got myself a USA Made Mark Tremonti Signature Guitar. Check them out. They're like hot rodded Les Pauls, and will blow any Les Paul away, including their 5k Custom. I paid $3500 for mine. Gibson's quality assurance has become shit. PRS Guitars are always Perfect. I also have a US Made CE24. You can Never go wrong with PRS.

      Killer Next Dealio is a Dirty Shirley ASAP I'm thinking head or maybe combo The creamback is a good match although I have some perfect cabs for it (73 Vox 2/12 alnico) or JTM 4/12 alnico's w brass logo like the original Limited edition w leather handles Fantastic cabinet but pain to lug around OR a 4/10 tweed can or the regular 80s blonde Ann series cabs LoL So combo probably Back hurt's just thinking about it Great demo Friedman is the King of the power these days Excited about getting one Good going Phil ☺️

    I'm typically a 'hi-gain' guy; I played one of these the other day and knew right away it was the best sounding amp I have ever played through. The kind of gear that makes everything you play sound better. Dimed with the boost it is so clear and articulate; like nothing else. I will be dumping my current rig (and many of the dirt pedals) and going with this. It also reacts so nicely to your guitar volume and just backing off a little gets a nice crunch I would normally rely on a third channel for. I tried it through their 1x12 and 2x12 and both were fantastic. I also tried it in an Orange 2x12 (which can be thumpy) but it wasn't as good of a match.

    I have that exact guitar.... It's seriously awesome. I play through Peavy Classic 50 all tube and and it sounds warm and fat. I payed this same guitar next to the core 22 and 24... and it sounded extremely similar. The core 22 had more warmth/bassy because of the fat neck...but when you turn the bass up on your amp and treble down a bit Walla... almost identical sound... with same pickups surprisingly... and even better the CE is $2k cheaper. The top carve is slightly shallower... but $2k just for that doesn't seem to be with added cost. The Korean bridge makes no difference really... mine stays in tune no matter how much crazy bending I do. Bolt on neck sounds Phenomenal too. I know it's cost saving... since doesn't take a month like core to set...but at the end of day gives you more snap/attack and tone just as great just very slightly different than core... again which differences can be adjusted in EQ for the most part... but no need for CE to sound like anything else it's so great in it's own right...

    Great demo, best one of the Runt on youtube - I ordered one! GREAT JOB, GREAT PLAYING! Screw Mesa. The Stiletto Deuce does the best "British" tones for a Mesa, but you're always going to have a "Mesa" flavor.

      I bought the Runt 50 head over the TC-50. Not regretted my purchase yet...one gig down!

    • @JeffFitzgerald1
      @JeffFitzgerald1 7 лет назад

      tomulator How are you running volume boosts (if you need that)? I like the "Solo" function on each of the three TC-50 Channels, but the tone of the Friedman is killer IMO.

    • @tomulator
      @tomulator 7 лет назад +1

      Jeff Fitzgerald ...I am currently controlling my whole rig with a Line6 Helix. I created a patch that controls my channel switching on the Runt, and all effects etc, including a footswitchable volume boost. Basically, running in 4CM through the Helix...volume boost goes in the loop return of the Runt. Works perfectly.

    • @Unibabble
      @Unibabble 6 лет назад

      This is also my dilemma. I played one of these a week ago, and it was the most fun I have had playing guitar in ages. The sound was just killer. But I am a loyal Boogie player, and tried out the MarkV:35 a few months ago and was loving that head as well - a lot more flexibility IMO. Need to A/B the new TC50 and the Runt side by side and see which one brings more joy!

    Those tones sound great, but is it really worth spending the extra $500 on the 50 watt instead of the 20 watt?

    • @ianalderman9290
      @ianalderman9290 7 лет назад +1

      JKGuitar100
      I've been wondering about this as well. With the 50, you do get Bass and Treble on the clean channel and also we're talking EL-34 vs EL-84. I've also been considering a Bogner Shiva with EL-34s. But that's a different story. I think it comes down to if you need that big fat bassy tone. I bet in combo form the 50 would sound fatter, more muscular than the 20. I'd say it also depends on if you're going to gig. The 20 may or may not necessarily have the clean headroom when playing out, but would be one beast of a home amp. It all depends man.

    • @zafira976
      @zafira976 6 лет назад

      you're right in most parts but the el84 sound better/sweeter than the bigger el34s...they also have much sweeter dirty/clean tones on the verge of breakup. A 20 watt amp is definitely not a gig-amp though...for recordings you may be better off with that little taco...

    Joss, I love the way you play, you are fantastic! What is your opinion about the two channel Runt 50 compared to the single channel Dirty Shirley? I have always gravitated towards two channel heads thinking they are more versatile for rhythm and lead playing, but after watching your Dirty Shirley video I really like that amp!

    • @GakCoUk
      @GakCoUk  7 лет назад

      HEY MIKE, thank you for the kind words my man.
      I have to say i am a massive fan of the Dirty Shirley , the tone of that thing regardless of what you put in front of it is just unreal. Do not get me wrong the 2 channel stuff is amazing i just think having the Shirley tone and then put a real good drive pedal in front of it is the way to go.
      Joss

      This is the sound I want. I have the EVh 5150iii but after 3 years I cannot say I’m happy with it. Not a bad amp but the sound is so thin a compressed. This Runt 50 sounds great in every video, time for a change. Great playing man!!

  • @tman6495
    @tman6495 7 лет назад

    How would compare the 20 to the 50 other than headroom and volume, as for that Friedman tone...(pt-20 BE etc)

    • @GakCoUk
      @GakCoUk  7 лет назад

      Hey dude,
      Well i have tried them both and the only difference i could make out was on the overdrive tone the lower wattage head was a little more fuzzy on the low end when the gain was pushed. And as for the 50 watt one as you would expect a little clearer on the top end.
      I think thats what your asking,
      Joss

    I own this amp and the cleans and drive are incredible, great for hard rock, blues, clean etc. But I am a huge metal player and this amp just lacks gain even boosed in a metal setting. Note definition is amazing but I just wish it had a bit more gain. I'm on the border of selling it.

    The Seymour Duncan 805, I literally just got it. It has very little gain. It was good for pushing an already distorted amp but very thin sounding and that’s on the neck pick up and or both hbs. Returning it. I am a pedal addict. It has a good reputation but I didn’t like it. It didn’t sound like it does here and I have Suhr Doug Aldrich pick ups. Very high gain
    Pick ups. And a Friedman smallbox LIMITED extra gain. Tried it with a Bogner Helios and an Egnater tweaker 15 head. Nope nope and nope. Dirty Deeds much better. Sorry Seymour.
