Actually, I've always said that I have three favorite WFT games in my 60+ years of following them, and none of them are Super Bowl games. One is the game against the Eagles posted above. The second game is the playoff game against the Bears at the end of the 1986 season. I always thought the Bears under Mike Ditka and, especially, Jim McMahon, were a cocky bunch. During their Super Bowl season of 1985, they hosted the Skins relatively early in the season. The Skins' regular punter (can't recall who) was hurt early in the game, so Joe Theismann, who punted at Notre Dame, did the duties. On one punt, he kicked it straight up into a stiff wind, and the punt traveled 1-2 yards, after which the Bears, who were in a close game at the time, took off and won easily. After the game, Jim McMahon was asked if he thought the turning point in the game was the Theismann punt. Behind his ever-present shades (in a locker room!), he said, "I don't comment on guys who punt only one yard." McMahon was hurt during the 1986 season, and Doug Flutie did a respectable job in backup. In the playoff game in Chicago; however, the Skins dominated the Bears in a 27-13 win which was not as close at the score indicated. After the game, Ditka threw Flutie under the bus, saying that he thought the Bears would have won with McMahon under center. The third game is the following year's playoff game, again in Chicago, and McMahon played the entire game. The Skins spotted the Bears a two-TD lead, then came roaring back and won on a TD on a punt return by Darrell Green. Ditka had nothing to say.

Eagles in 1990 were always talking tough but couldn't back it up. Basically a .500 team all season. They were 7-6 with 3 games left, beat 3 weak teams to get in as a wildcard, then lost this game. Bragged all week about the "body bags" game on Monday when they beat the Redskins. Talked how good they were when the beat the Giants in week 11. But they had lost to the Giants in the first game and then to Washington in week 5. They had good players, a good defense. But a lousy HC in Ryan and talked a good game but couldn't deliver.

It became even Worse after the 1990 Body Bag Game. Yes I understand that Players get Hurt but Under Buddy Ryan as the Philadelphia Head Coach, he Made a Decision to Intentionally injured Players. Yes Washington lost 9 Players during that Body Bag Games as it was Called do to Buddy Ryan telling his Players to Intentionally Hurt another Players. That was Disgusting & Vile. How You Could Be a Fan of a Coach/Team that Wanted to End another Players Career. The Philadelphia Eagles🦅🦅🦅 cry foul whenever they lose. It doesn't matter how bad they played it's some excuse etc
We will be like this next year! Whupping the eagles in the playoffs....and DALLAS out of the playoffs again!
They won’t win five games next season .. again
You guys don't even have an identity anymore.
@@bryantmoore2696 they went to the playoffs
Buddy Ryan’s last game, ushering in the dreaded Rich Kotite era. Washington a year away from their final Super Bowl .
If anything, the 1995 and 96 Eagles teams reached the playoffs with lots of Kotite holdovers.
The Byner play that was ruled a fumble on the field and a touchdown for the Eagles was the last time that an instant replay review has gone the Redskins' way.
As a general principle, if your team has "Washington" in its name, you should always assume that the league has allowed the other teams' fans to masquerade as officials.
I agree. I love me some Darrell Green.
Statement game...beat the Eagles at the Vet in a a playoff game against buddy Ryan and co...HTTR!
Beat them good too. Game wasn't even as close as the score.
That turf at vet was awful! Thank God more people didnt get hurt
It is funny how we revere Buddy, but hate Kotite....even though Kotite managed to win a playoff game, which Buddy could never do.
Believe it or not, Kotite is the last Eagles coach to beat the Saints in the playoffs (and we all know the Birds struggled against New Orleans in the playoffs)
This was payback for the"bodybag game". Once again proof that paybacks are a b**ch.😂 Buddy Ryan was great as a defensive coordinator, but a horrible head coach.
Still the Eagles best Head Coach between Vermeil and 2000.
This is known among redskins fans as the “Buddy Bag Game” as he was fired shortly after.
He never understood the importance of a stout offensive line. The 1995 Cardinals’ offensive line might’ve been one of the worst in NFL history.
Do you have Eagles @ Cincinnati 1994, Dallas @ Cincinnati 1994, Patriots-Bengals 1994, Cowboys-Giants 1996 where the Boys lost 20-6, Cleveland-New England playoffs,
How many Super Bowls would JG have won if he has a HOF QB. Imagine Dan Marino or Joe Montana or ........ at QB of the Redskins for a 10yr span.
they were going to draft Marino they year after they won the SB and Miami picked him one spot ahead of us.
Is anybody else the least bit amused hearing vermeil comment on Jeff fisher at 4:08
44:57 ... good hustle by Clyde Simmons, rushing 25 yds downfield to make tackle
They actually had that play in Tecmo Super Bowl for Washington. Those Japanese programmers really did their homework.
If Randall only had half a brain
This just came up on my phone by mistake. To avoud total agony i fast forward the game to the last 5 minutes so i could not relive it again all the way.
51:41 ... Alvin Walton fumble recovery
Oh, two more words, Richie Pettibone.
That was a fumble
Revenge is sweet !! Bodybag this!! HTTR.
2:20:00 "So Washington advances. They will play either Chicago or New Orleans". That was the wild card matchup the next day. There was no way Washington could play either team in the Divisional Round. Washington would go to New York or San Fran the next week. Washington would end up playing the 49ers next.
Buddy Ryan was a better d coach and assistant. Not head coach material.

Ah yes, the game that got my paid at my tent city in the UAE in Desert Storm. I remember Byner running in the end zone, and me imitating the ref and raising my arms signaling touchdown and yelling "Cha Ching!" at 3 am in the morning. Ow man, I took that whole camp with the Redskins that year.
1:06:52 ... nice goal line play by Seth Joyner
Can’t believe they changed the redskins name in the name of racial justice. I didn’t hear any Indians screaming to change the name
For some reason, Native American names somehow became the one "other" cause to which black racists contributed their hate.
I live in Arizona which has a big population of native Americans. I grew up in Springfield Virginia. Been here 20 years. Wore my Redskins shirt every weekend and if those people were offended, they sure would have told me because they like to drink their booze like a fish drinks water. I'd be walking to my local sports bar with satellite TV to watch my Redskins game, they smile and toast a drink with me in a Redskins shirt every time. This is a fabricated crisis by the Far Left
A pine box for Buddy just two months after the Body Bag Game.
31:49 ... Seth Joyner looking bad-ass in this publicity photo
I love seeing seeing philly fans go nuts jumping up and down at the ben smith fumble (which was overturned). These were real football fans when seats were affordable.
The five minute stretch starting from 13:45 to about 18:45 is testament to how incredibly awful the turf at the Vet was.
It’s like the Eagles offense doesn’t care
1:01:00, LOL.. the refs wanted to take some time to make that (NON fumble) call to clear the air a bit and not cause some crowd riot.. or someone to not riot
Brent Musburger can call a good game also ...
Great game! That astroturf is awful tho🫠
“There’s nothing wrong with Cunningham, the Skins defense just neutralized him” FIFY
Buddy Ryan benching Cunningham was him waving the white flag. He was way in over his head.
So many of these hits would be penalties now.
RIP Jerome Brown
Any other eagles games where they won 😀
I forgot Buddy took Randall out for Jimmy Mac...bad move
why
How many times did Lawrence Taylor sack him?
57:50 ... Rypien look like Randall on this play
Skins' defense got real in the red zone.
As heralded as the Eagles D was, the Skins were better.
What happened to Chris Carter?
the game that got buddy ryan fired....we could have been in the superbowl with the defense we had that year...
with a better coach you could have
Offense wasn't that good though
Vermeil knew his s**t.
Had that been the Lions instead of the eagles byners fumble would’ve stood!
most overrated coach in nfl history was ryan
wereis he rated?
its nit his gault.Cunningham could play not play well in the playoffs.
@@somogy6667 yes its his fucking fault inbred moron
Two words, Jim Hanifan.😁
The eagles should crushed these bums that bogus fumble they over turned byner fumbled
Ben smith was good ashame he got hurt was never the same
They don't know what a screen pass is ?
That was such fumble ball lose get out here
1:39.43.. Mr. Cooke and the drug dealer girlfriend.. LMAO.
Dick Vermeil is hilarious
REVENGE when it counted the most. Body bag game? Who cares?
I agree and I'm a die-hard Eagles fan the Redskins beat our ass when it mattered most. And I definitely don't miss these Kelly baby diarrhea green uniforms. The midnight green and black are way more intimidating
Don't take this A$$ whipping personally it's just business
FLY EAGLES FLY
@@robthorn8394 Uhhm, the Eagles lost this game. Remember the 80s and early 90s? Eagles were decent in the regular season, but the SKINS dominated in the PLAYOFFS!! WOOOHOOO!!!
seeing Brian Mitchells TD drive at QB. made the body bag game worth seeing. I really love Brian Mitchell and believe he could have played any position
"Pine box for Buddy"...LOFL
Buddy Ryan was an idiot. He yanks Cunningham for McMahon at the crucial part of the game. McMahon sucks wind.....great move.
And the iggles get Richie Kotite! The most inept offensive mind ever. Should have made Jeff Fischer head coach.
