crowtservo because they were still called the oilers in Tennessee for a bit and they still kept the oilers colors as the Titans. But they don’t wear red trim on their jerseys anymore out of deference to Houston.
The greatest comeback in NFL history. Bar none. People just want to say Super Bowl LI because it's the Super Bowl, and it's the Patriots, and it's so very recent. But we have to remember, they had Tom Brady and Bill Bellichick. The Bills didn't have their Hall of Fame Quarterback. I repeat, they did this with a BACKUP QUARTERBACK. At least with the Patriots, Brady and Bellichick had a shot because they were them. But this should not have been even POSSIBLE in the FIRST PLACE. Super Bowl LI has the advantage in just stage, and that's it. In every other manner, this comeback has it beat. Super Bowl LI is the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history, without a doubt. It's the No. 2 comeback. But The Comeback is The Comeback. You don't get any better than that.
Todd Christensen was something else. So articulate and intelligent and played for the outcasts of the league in the Raiders, and was awesome on color commentary. Nobody would ever imagine he was on a team that won two Super Bowls.
Thats what the Raiders were. Broken up personalities but they delivered no matter what. They should make a movie about the Raiders season to super bowl victory at the end of the film.
I remember I was at work during this game. We had a radio blaring the play-by-play throughout the warehouse and could not believe how it ended up. One of the most Incredible comebacks up until SB LI last Sunday!! Thanks for posting this NFL.
I remember this game SOOooo well. I was mad at myself because I overslept. The second half had just started, so it was already 28-3. I couldn't believe it. I almost turned the TV off when the Oilers went up 35-3. But I was shipping out to Parris Island (USMC boot camp, for those that don't know) only three days later. Since I would miss the rest of the playoffs, I decided to tough it out and continue watching my Bills get slaughtered. What. A. Sendoff.
the fact some people believe this isnt the greatest comeback in NFL history. that some eagles and giants game was. is just plain wrong. what a great win for buffalo.
The only people who believe the Eagles comeback was better are the Eagles' fans. Because the comeback was in a playoff game and the fact the Bills used it to get back to the Super Bowl makes it the greatest comeback ever. The Eagles wound up getting crushed in the wild card round.
Nathaniel Levesque i just dislike searching the greatest comeback in NFL history and i see over 4 million views on that eagles game. and not a one for the bills game which really deserves it.
brogan murray agreed. If you go nearly 60 years without a championship, you'll cling on to anything good that happens to your team and proclaim it as the greatest thing in the history of the sport.
This is clearly numerically the greatest and best comeback in NFL history. There is no question of that. I wish they rode it to Super Bowl glory, but what can you do?
This 1992 Oilers team may have been the most sure-fire Super Bowl contender of the Run-N-Shoot era (1990-1993). Had they simply hung on to this win they would've taken care of both Pittsburgh and Miami as Buffalo did and there would have been a monumental Super Bowl vs the young Dallas Cowboys. When Bubba McDowell returned the 3rd quarter pick for a TD, the Oilers' radio announcers including legendary coach Bum Phillips sang songs of triumph. It was the highest moment the Oilers and their fans would have until the team was taken away after the 1996 season. The first two and half quarters are still ambrosia for us Oilers fans. We will always remember this amazing performance.
Overrated. These retro games are kind of appealing. No distraction scoreboard on all the time. Officiating could be a little better though. Lotta missed calls.
Stephen Poehler distraction scoreboard? Watching this i had no idea what the score was most of the time. I understand being critical of todays world can be "cool" sometimes but lets appreciate conveniences when we see them
Taek nam i understand retro can be a little confusing but most of those things can be prevented if you just pay attention to something for more than 15 seconds. I understand the importance of having the clock on the screen in 2 minute drills and things like that. But these games literally had the score and clock posted at the start of almost every drive.
I remember that day well. I lived in Houston, and we were driving to McAllen, 5 hours away. When we left Houston they were so far ahead by halftime, that we felt the game was in the bag. We lost radio contact of the game, and were shocked to hear the final score when we arrived. Totally dumbfounded beyond belief. It was so sad.
The next day the entire Oiler defensive coaching staff was unceremoniously fired--it is believed that this loss was the catalyst for the ultimate move of the Oilers to Tennessee. Warren Moon has said that when he was inducted into the HOF all he could think about that day was this loss
Wow..time flies! I was 12yo... never seen the second half until now..I turned on my s.nintendo and played all day long..only to see the news saying that we lost.😣☹️
This game was actually blacked out in Western NY and Southern Ontario--listened to the game on WBEN-930 radio Buffalo--with the late Van Miller calling the play by play-when the score went to 35-3 Houston I turned off the radio--as I couldn't listen to this anymore---went out for a walk just to forget about this--when I came home and turned on the radio to here how bad the final score was--the score was 38-35 Buffalo--and ultimately they won in OT-a memory I will never forget
It was blacked out in most of northwestern Pennsylvania as well. Both WGRZ and WICU in Erie were subject to the 75-mile rule, and those were the two stations that served the northwestern counties in the state at the time of this game. I only got to watch it because the town we lived in also had the NBC station from Youngstown, Ohio on its cable lineup in addition to the Erie station.
I was living in the dorms when this game was played. I was in my dorm and totally forgot that the NFL played playoff games on Saturdays. Some guy running down the hall yelled, "Well, looks like Buffalo's out of playoffs." I turned on the TV just in time to see McDowell's INT return for a TD. I decided to watch the rest of the game. I'm one of the rare people who missed the first half and watched the second.
My late father and I were at the game. I've thought of him a lot lately with the Hamlin situation and wanted to see the highlights again. We were at the 10 yard line, mid-level. Christie's overtime kick was in our end. On that overcast day, we couldn't see the kick well enough to know by eye if it split the uprights. It was the crowd on the other end and with the better vantage point that told us. What a roar. Have never experienced that kind of hysteria. Strangers hugging each other, people breaking spontaneously into cheers as we walked up the exit ramps. My dad was the truest of Bills fans. Not a word from him about us leaving at 35-3. Go Bills.
Naghavi, Stop crying. It was one td. Beebe stepped out of bounds. But they would've still scored on that drive anyway. Houston's defense was pourous. If you look closely, you can literally see the Houston players choking on their sideline.
I was a huge Bills fan when this game took place, and just to clarify, a lot of people did leave the game at half time and early in the 3rd quarter when the Bills went down 35-3, however, many turned around and came back when they heard on the radio that the Bills scored and made it 35-10. And yes, the fans that still had their ticket stubs were allowed back in. The reason I remember this is because the announcers were talking about it during some of the breaks, which were not part of this video. Thanks for posting it!
@Snotlout Is A God It can be released by the Adams family. The New York AFL team was the Titans before the Jets. The owner of that name let Adams have it for his Tennessee team.
@@michaelleroy9281 Houston could petition the NFL for a name change. Dallas used to be the Texans and Houston got the rights to that name. That would take lots of money though. Bud adams is dead and his wife doesn't seem to bright. Probably won't happen but it's worth a shot
The Bills were such an exciting team to watch in the 90's especially in Buffalo. I miss those days. They have some good players today, but it's just not the same. When you can remember the names of more than 2/3 of the team, it's a great team despite the 4 Superbowl losses.
Exactly! There will never be another Bills Team like the one from the 90's ... everyone in Buffalo knew all the players. So many many great names!! Wow!
then that stupid/demented owner of the Bills-Ralph Wilson fired the architect of these SB teams--GM Bill Polian in 1993 over an argument Polian had with the team's treasurer Jeff Littman. From that point on the Bills began their long decline into oblivion that was accelerated after the "Music City" miracle game-it took the Bills 17 years to make the playoffs again (no playoffs from 1999 to 2016)
@@bufnyfan1 Wow, I didn't know that. That team is as snake bitten as the Vikings & Browns. (I didn't mention the Lions cuz they just simply stink!) This time the Bills fell victim to the STUPID ongoing overtime rules that allow a coin flip to decide the winner!! The NFL finally amended the overtime rules for 2022 to include touchdowns, but only for post season.
That's the pre-cap days. They made this massive move towards parity, but personally I miss those monster teams even though my own team was not among the elite. You knew who half the team was even though it wasn't yours, you knew that in the superbowl you were going to see a bunch of legendary players all on the field at the same time. It's just not like that now... it's all kind of the same to me.
As a NYG fan, I hated to see SB 25 end the way it did. BUF was excellent year after year and Norwood was a very good kicker and he deserves better than to be remembered mostly for that game. NYG heroics at the end would have been better. But having said that, this game is phenomenal and immortal in NFL history. Always inspiring to see a team never give up!
Honestly giants deserved to win. Held the ball for over 40 minutes. Pretty much contained Bills offense other than Thurman Thomas using that quarter defense that reduced Kelly to dinks and dunks.
Yeah I think the Bills should have won in 1990. Each year after that they got progressively weaker compared to their Superbowl opponents. They were huge underdogs against Dallas and played like it. But the Giants were strong too. Before the salary cap it was an age of monster teams and I miss that.
I remember watching this game as kid. my dad was out of town and made me record it. I fell asleep after the first half. woke up and the bills had won!!!
Bryson Hall - and that backup QB is now head coach of the Colts! He also coached (can't remember, QB coach or OC) for last years SB winners - the Eagles. He finally got that ring.
I remember this game because I was in the hospital with a bleeding ulcer and I had the game on not really paying any mind to it and I remember looking up and seeing the bills came back to win and I couldn’t believe it! This was in Frederick Maryland, I have a friend who is a bills fan, so I kind of root for them. Washington is my team, but I was happy for Buffalo.
To have been a Bills fan during this time was definitely a unique experience. This was the greatest come back in NFL history and to have witnessed it as a fan of the winning team was really something special. I try to re-watch it every year during Superbowl weekend.
The damndest thing about this is...THEY DAMN NEAR MADE IT ALL UP IN LESS THAN 1 QUARTER! Still unbelievable, to this day, and I saw it live on television.
Gotta feel bad for Bruce and Jake Matthews. Father and son were both on the losing end of two or the most amazing postseason comebacks in league history.
When the 49ers intercepted Mahomes for the last time and went into the end zone for their group photo, I remember thinking, "Yeah, it's too early to be celebrating like that."
I was at this game 30 years ago, I was 11. It was one of my first Bills games and thank god my Dad never leaves a sporting event early. I can remember the stadium being 3/4's empty at one point, but we never gave up, and it turned out to be one of the greatest experiences of my Life. GO BILLS

I was 8yrs old around this time and i remember my uncles and family members cursing and screaming alot lol...I did not know what the hell was going, i just remember seeing them real pissed off.
This game is why Warren Moon does not belong in the hall of fame. 3-7 in playoff games and those three wins all took place in the wild card round. He never even won a divisional playoff game to make it to the conference championship.
@@RYMAN1321 Of course they didn't the Bills won games in Pittsburgh in the divisional and Miami in the AFC championship after this game, remember those 2 games came before the Super Bowl
The 40 yd pass td to Beebe was illegal touching but if you are Houston, it shouldn't matter when u should have been ready for the onside kick. It's scary when a team like the Bills play with nothing to lose down 3 tds
This was, and still is, the greatest comeback in pro football history. This tops SB51 simply because of the fact that the bills only had a backup QB to pull it off. It was also a larger deficit.
I watched this game aboard the U.S.S. Saratoga in Fla. while on duty with a shipmate from Alabama. He was a huge Crimson Tide fan and loved the fact that C. Bennett was a Bills player. We pretty much watched the entire thing, and needless to say, the way it turned around in the second half was memorable.
Poor Houston. First this madness and then on top of that they got Montana'd out of the post-season the following year. This is why you run up the score and you don't give a #$%# about it. All it took was one onside kick recovery and this game just snowballed out of control... and That was with Jim Kelly on the bench and a hobbled Thurman Thomas. Unreal. Of course Buffalo would go on to suffer through their own horrors... in the superbowl. four of them.
A lot of fault for the failures of the Oilers of this era was Jack Pardee. He was too nice too lax and none of his teams were disciplined enough. Jack Pardee and his entire staff should have been fired after the meltdown in Denver the year before. It also didn't help they were owned by one of the worst owners in the NFL, Bud Adams.
Growing up in Houston as an Oiler’s fan, I vividly remember watching this game with a disbelief. I sorely miss the Oilers and watching the run and shoot offense putting up crazy stats.
Jerry Gray had 2 legitimate beefs with Beebe after the onside kick in the 3rd Q. Beebe clearly wasn't down at the 42 and fumbled. Gray recovered. Then on the TD pass a few plays later Beebe was out of bounds on the route.
Today, Gray could have just thrown the challenge flag on either of those plays, and either would have gone his way (the latter is more likely to be a successful challenge, IMO)...
Well, Warren Moon is finally off the hook--after nearly 30 YEARS. Matt Ryan is now on the receiving end of being up 28-3 in the Super Bowl and 33-0 today--and losing BOTH...
As a Bills fan living in NJ, I didn't get to see too many games on TV. I remember watching this on an afternoon when my family was putting away our Christmas decorations/tree. It felt like every time I came upstairs with another box of things, the score changed in the second half. Despite getting a warning from my mom, I would watched more and more as the comeback progressed. Ultimately she gave up when she realized the magnitude of the game. This game was certainly a great childhood memory!
30 years later I’d like to say thank you to the NFL for blacking our this game in the local area of Buffalo. Greatest game for the Bills and we couldn’t watch it. Thanks NFL!
I'm not from Buffalo but I feel for their Super Bowl losses. The end of this game gave me goose bumps watching the players and fans celebrate the win. Its almost like someone upstairs said, "I can't give you a Super Bowl win but I can give you the greatest comeback in the history of your sport. Oh, by the way, you're doing it at home in front of your fans."
Greatest comeback in NFL history was the Patriots over the Falcons in the superbowl. The bills don't even come close to winning this game if there were instant replay back then. Beebe was way out of bounds and came back in as well as other plays that were missed.
As a Bills fan I wanted to turn this game off when watching it live. But, I was sorting laundry when Buffalo started coming back and grateful that I didn’t change the channel! 2021 should be a fun season, GO BILLS!!!!!
Wow!.. Didn't realize that Buffalo's receiver stepped out on his way to the endzone on the touchdown that made the score 35-31. Also with that holding no call on Givens on the Odomes interception. Wow, Oilers could have used the challenge system back then bigtime.
Beebe was pushed very hard though - he would not have been out of bounds but for that hard push. I don't know if the rule accounts for that but it definitely should if not.
@@humanbeing2420 They had the force out rule then but Beebe took 2 full steps 3 yds out of bounds on his own. Houston got some terrible no calls that impacted the game. Up 35-3 though you've gotta win that game

Carlton Bailey, Cornelius Bennett, Darryl Talley & Shane Conlan...Bill's linebackers in the wonder years!! Wow
Charlie Jones just had a GREAT broadcaster's voice. I really enjoyed him and Todd doing the broadcasting work for this game.
They were a great tandem.
I called my dad today and told him this is no longer the greatest comeback in NFL history. I said, do you remember where we were that day? He said I don't remember where I was yesterday 😂. I'll never forget listening to the radio broadcast. Like most people we said this is over at halftime. We got back in the truck and the postgame was on. We heard, well folks we just witnessed the greatest comeback in NFL history. Never forget that day. The 90's was such a great era for sports. 🍻
There were many that Oilers didn't get Bebe went out of bounds before he caught a td pass there was a takedown in OT on Moon's last INT that was the biggest

This was back when it was great being a Bills fan. I just want to see the Bills win a Super Bowl before I die.
+Nicholas Rivera My condolences, I sympathize. I would have loved to see them win 4 super bowls in a row. God! I hate the Cowboys. They should have won their 1st one. For lack of a kicker.

We'll See if That Does Happen.
+Likwit 716 So do Viking fans.
We will! With Allen at qb! Plus winning a sb is easier in this era.then the 90s.
You guys seem to be near the end of your rebuild, now that Brady is a lot worse and may actually leave New England next season, this will be your time to shine

Oilers had the bomb diggidityest unis in the league. Should still exist.
Scott B Amen!!
They kept the Browns name and colors in Cleveland but didn’t give the same courtesy to Houston with the Oilers.
@@crowtservo The city of Cleveland asked that they be allowed to keep the team colors.
crowtservo because they were still called the oilers in Tennessee for a bit and they still kept the oilers colors as the Titans. But they don’t wear red trim on their jerseys anymore out of deference to Houston.
What makes those uniforms so great?
+TheForce221 Do not forget the Charger/Dolphin game Jan/82 in terms of excitement, 41/38 overtime. Chargers.
Agree 100%
Too bad Buffalo never won the Super Bowl...lost 4 straight while another team in their division have 5
better watch that team while you still can, they wont be a factor after a season or two
Also they lost Thurman Thomas in this game
one of the reasons I'm subbed to NFL on youtube full games I love watching games I was to young for and there's soo many I love it thank you.
yep..best channel...bro..hope you watching ur team's games ..
I'm a Patriots fan and even though the Patriots have an unbelievable comeback in SB LI, it doesn't affect the Bills' comeback in this game at all.
What. A. Sendoff.
Wish they saved their comeback juice for against the Cowboys because they constantly just couldn’t stop turning the ball over
Blowing a 32-point lead, CLASSIC HOUSTON
+Ndudi Enwereuzor Not the Oilers of the mid to late 70,s. Love Ya Blue.

Jx son big boy on his keyboard. Tell us do you squat when you piss 🍑 ?
the fact some people believe this isnt the greatest comeback in NFL history. that some eagles and giants game was. is just plain wrong. what a great win for buffalo.
I wish they rode it to Super Bowl glory, but what can you do?
brogan murray search up the miracle in meadowlands on RUclips you'll see
This 1992 Oilers team may have been the most sure-fire Super Bowl contender of the Run-N-Shoot era (1990-1993).

And they had the distance and the first down marker is clearly visable on the other end of the field. I don't see the big confusion.
And here shows the largest comeback in NFL history
Why else is it called "The comeback"
To Houston, it's called "The Choke."
RPGFreak901 this isn’t their team anymore though. Does any Oiler history even matter to them now?
Nerd 0208 yea
I'm thinking how did that happen ?
Dam it feels good to see these legends play again. Maryland fans know about Frank and that comeback game against University of Miami
I was standing on my couch screaming at the TV in absolute elation. It was amazing. Who's crying....no your're crying.
Damn so you’ve been thinking they lost for decades! Lol
Go Bills.
Everyone: Wow, the pats made the greatest comeback in NFL history!
Bills: Am I a joke to you?
@NaghaviSystem waaaah babyrage
@NaghaviSystem tainted just like every single one of the pats* super bowl wins? Don't forget that asterisk, son.
@NaghaviSystem If it weren't for the Tuck Rule, no Pats dynasty, or as most people call it, the F*** Rule.
Naghavi,
Stop crying. It was one td. Beebe stepped out of bounds. But they would've still scored on that drive anyway. Houston's defense was pourous. If you look closely, you can literally see the Houston players choking on their sideline.
As a far a playoff game goes, definitely the Bills but not the Super bowl. I have to give that one to the Pats.
I was born in 97 so this is my first time seeing this game. Man Moon was good, never saw him play before
Warren Moon is arguably the finest QB who ever played pro ball. Check his stats.

It`s amazing how things work out in the game of football....As soon as that momentum shifts look out.
The Oilers is a great name. Bring it back.
@Snotlout Is A God It can be released by the Adams family. The New York AFL team was the Titans before the Jets. The owner of that name let Adams have it for his Tennessee team.
Bring it back how, genius?
@@michaelleroy9281 don't be that guy. Idiot.
Thank you VERY much NFL for posting this historic game.
I was 13 years old and at this game all the way to the end!!!! I miss these days
I was 6 . I'm a North Jersey die hard Bills fan . Nothing like going to that stadium. I can't wait to get the chance to experience a home playoff game
They’re coming backing.
Andrew D wow must have felt nice 😍

I miss Marv so much. Epic boogers, great coaching. A great man!
Hard to believe a backup quarterback made this type of comeback
Bryson Hall With a backup running back too!
That's what will make this comeback the greatest of all time forever.
Even if a bigger deficit is overcome. It won't be by a Backup's hands.
frank riech best backup of all time
Bryson Hall - and that backup QB is now head coach of the Colts! He also coached (can't remember, QB coach or OC) for last years SB winners - the Eagles. He finally got that ring.
@Snotlout Is A God amd his quarterbacks name is luck... hmmmm
Thanks for this! Saw the game live and just watched it again for the first time since. Memories :-)
To have been a Bills fan during this time was definitely a unique experience. This was the greatest come back in NFL history and to have witnessed it as a fan of the winning team was really something special. I try to re-watch it every year during Superbowl weekend.
The Biggest comeback in terms Of Points By a second-string quarterback right?
The damndest thing about this is...THEY DAMN NEAR MADE IT ALL UP IN LESS THAN 1 QUARTER! Still unbelievable, to this day, and I saw it live on television.
If that McDowell interception doesn't happen, they would have made it all up. That just makes it more incredible in my opinion.
Gotta feel bad for Bruce and Jake Matthews.
Father and son were both on the losing end of two or the most amazing postseason comebacks in league history.
Moral of all comebacks. DON'T GET CUTE. KEEP PLAYING AS IF YOU TRAIL.
The one thing Ron Rivera never learned

When the 49ers intercepted Mahomes for the last time and went into the end zone for their group photo, I remember thinking, "Yeah, it's too early to be celebrating like that."
Charlie Jones just had a GREAT broadcaster's voice. I really enjoyed him and Todd doing the broadcasting work for this game.

It’s kind of nullified in a way since the Bills came back here only to get creamed by the Cowboys.
And no Thurman Thomas.
Minnesota has it now. Buffalo though was much more impressive and still stands the greatest comeback in playoff history.
this is by far the greatest game ive ever seen. Forever a Bills Fan!!!
And now it's the Bills vs Pats beat down!!! 47-17!!! Or at least a close 2nd.

i remember watching this and thinking "at least Buffalo wont stink up another super bowl...' Little did I know.
+penoyer79 Do not forget 78, 79, 80.
Don't forget, the Oilers also got Elway'd out the previous year. That team could not hold a lead.
Wrenched my guts! Seeing The Oilers lose. Damn i wanted them to GO to the SB.
@@JSTX9216 agreed. These oilers had as much talent as anyone. Including Dallas.
I remember being a kid and watching this game. I used to like both of these teams because they were exciting to watch!
Moral of the story, beware getting a 28-3 lead. Best game I ever watched.
Something about that score 28-3 that would be heard from again years later
The Original 28-3 Lead. I'm wearing my Warren Moon jersey today with a Tear in my Beer. Ouch...Love Ya' Blue.
Well, Warren Moon is finally off the hook--after nearly 30 YEARS.
Matt Ryan is now on the receiving end of being up 28-3 in the Super Bowl and 33-0 today--and losing BOTH...
It will always stick ...
Ryan nd The Falcons just added more sting to the Oilers dowmfall.
You could see the Hall of Fame in Andre Reeds future The man made a living across the middle. No fear.
He KNEW he was gonna get hit HARD, but hung onto the ball. Great receiver.
About time! If there is one classic game that needed to be posted, this was it. Thank you so much for putting this up on RUclips.
Jack Pardee went full Schottenheimer and Andy Reid by absolutely stopping everything that worked in the first half.
Yet Jim Eddy and Pat Thomas were the ones that got fired
30 years later I’d like to say thank you to the NFL for blacking our this game in the local area of Buffalo. Greatest game for the Bills and we couldn’t watch it. Thanks NFL!

Thank you for releasing so many games
