heh. thanks for... tuning... in...
YESSSSS!
Hey Trevor, really cool video! Just out of curiosity, I’m wondering why you have chosen C major as your basis instead of F major given that you can choose Bb as a fretted note, is it just a choice you make or do you see it as serving the functionality better? I’m working with a student on this and we just watched your video, really great stuff!
I think it’s due to Math Rock , which mainly uses the 4th note of a scale as it’s home chord
This guy maths!
nice
Hell yeah
Love your videos! Are you a music student by any chance?
Tim Collins from TTNG uses a F Ab Eb Gb Bb Eb tuning in some of their songs, can you make one session for this one?
Your videos are awesome and really useful, by the way.
Admittedly, I've never played in that tuning but I could do some analysis and eventually make a video on that one.
@flex56k it's This Town Needs Guns
where is the second part?
So when you say the keys in DADF#AE and DAEAC#E in 1 minute videos, are you going with the open chord being the fourth degree like in this video?
Please put songs used in the description
Do DAEAC#E please??
QUESTION. Ive been jammin this tuning on my acoustic, and im curious, what strings would be best for it? Any particular brands or gauges that fit well? Lemme know!
I know that I'm a bit late, I usually would go with 12s or 11s.
🎉
Where is part 2?
how do you tune to it though
I wanna start learning alternate tunings and I love math/midwest sound. However, there're not that much materials on FACGCE vs DADGAD. Is it crucial to pick the first over the second one to get similar possibilities moodwise?
Idk much about theory, but I’ve played in dadgad for years and it’s a very different sound than math rock. It is rooted pretty deep in the dorian medieval/appalachian blues sound. Idk if you could make it sound math. But anything is possible
I went to watch Part 2 but it's set to private :/
Why
He remade it. Check the top comment on this video.
Could you do one for DAEAC#E and/or DADGAD?
NameAndLikeness i can definitely do one for daeac#e
Keep this up, really enjoying everything
A video about DAEAC#E would be amazing!
a good reference for dadgad/dadf#ad tuning would be the band uchu conbini..
Literally the best tuning!
Is changing tuning purely to make certain chords and licks easier to play or are some things just practically impossible in certain tunings?
Both, actually. Some chords are impossible to play on standard tuning, specially those that include open strings, it also gives you access to different notes and chords when using natural harmonics. Besides, it allows you to play some chords with minimal fingering so you are free to play extra notes.
^this.
If we're in C major, does chords or scales based of another key all sound bad or is this like a rule of thumb kinda thing?
DeusEx3 in my experience a lot of deviations from C major sound pretty bad. It’s best to stay in that scale when writing in FACGCE
its just a little more difficult to use other keys in the tuning, but you can use specific modulations to certain closeby keys that can sound good depending on how ypu use them
I taught myself how to play guitar with mostly pop punk and drop d "emo" songs. I've been playing for more than 10 years on and off. So all of this is going way over my head lol where should I start?
learn music theory
KFC? I’m in
whats the song at 5:25
Do a writing in C# G# C# F G# C# tutorial!
Tuning in, Eh? ;)
is this a lower or higher tuning? I know that's probably a stupid question but I'm just curious.
its a bit of both hah
Lower or higher compared to what? F is higher than E in this case, but the tuning also functions differently from standard tuning in E. Maybe include why you are asking next time, context matters.
Looking for the 2nd part but it's gone...waiting for re-upload.
It's here! ruclips.net/video/6eX14h5CmZc/видео.html
Not just re-uploaded, but also remade
math rock tutor
Is it a C sharp or a C?
Why is part 2 private?
want to eat some fried chiken after this video
to mathrock musician subscribe to this man!!!!
i watched these videos so many times and i still dont get them :(
Couldn’t tuning the low E up to F break the string?
nah. tuning from E to F is one full step, so it doesnt really put a lot of stress the string at all
How to tune? I can't tune my 6th string (E) into F.
Your lowest note, F , is the 6th string. You're tuning it backwards lol
Why I was not suscribed?
hey no pressure!
[gets distracted by noodleing nevermeant the entire videon ]
Spoiler: The A, G, and E string are in standard tuning,
rip part 2
I remade part 2! ruclips.net/video/6eX14h5CmZc/видео.html
@@TrevorWongMusic awesome! Thanks dude!
@@TheBoglodite no prob!
God I've been trying to play never meant by ear in standard tuning. I'm late to that party
Ultimate guitar has the full tab for free
it's harder when you don't understand english 😭
I C(see). C(see) what I did there? Bet you didn't C(see) that coming.
This shit is so confusing
Never meant is like wonderwall for sad people
This video needs a new thumbnail, no?
Okay so, what about for someone who doesn't know music theory? Half of the stuff your saying is jargon to me lol
The theory in the video is pretty basic stuff. I recommend learning about Diatonic scales, modes, and chord construction. A man named Michael New has a good RUclips channel that explains some of these things.
nerd
speak English plz
you lost your soul in music the way you talk about it
