You guys forgot that Joel moved heaven and earth to find Tommy thinking because he wasn’t answering the radio meant he was in trouble. Very dangerous path Joel went through and Tess died in the process. That’s why he’s upset with Tommy and not because he’s jealous like you said.
I think the game did it's own version of a cliffhanger. Only when you hear Ellie ask for medicine from David and Buddy-boy do you get a hint that Joel is still alive.
First I wanted to say thank you for being nice and kind people. It can be a rare thing on the internet. You guys are so great. Second it’s really cool to see people who haven’t played the game react to the story. It reminds me of how I felt when I first played the game. So happy I found your channel!
Yeah, most people can't distinguish the differences objective truth and an subjective political truth. In all of human history where there was no economic structure, there is [commun]ity(ism): the practice of everyone contributing to the culture and survival of the group. Every tribe you've ever seen that exists before colonialism or despite it is effectively communism on a spectrum.
u gotta remember tommy was in desert storm lol. he bought into all that patriotism propaganda before the world ended. id imagine he'd have the same beliefs!! like joel said,, he was a joiner.
Not saying one way or the other, because experiencing this blind is something I wish I could do again. But that scene is similar to the one in the game: Similar enough that I had a very definite "Oh No!" moment when they entered the university and I realised how this episode was going to end.
Marlon and Florence are another example of how this show is so good at getting you to care about characters in only a few seconds of screen time. Their dynamic was instantly palpable. Florence was such a delight to watch. She’s the best. Nobody is changing my mind. Pedro Pascal’s monologue was such a masterclass in acting. He was able to convey such strong emotion where you felt the fear of losing another child and how broken he felt. Showing that vulnerability fleshes out the emotional violence that the show is going for. It really helps to bring their internal struggles more to the forefront. And Joel and Ellie’s confrontation was the culmination of their relationship building since the first episode. All of their emotions just came bubbling to the surface and delivered such an emotionally powerful scene. This was one of the moments that they had to get right and I think they pulled it off. They made the right choice to keep it close to the game for the most part as it is such a pivotal scene. Pascal and Ramsey were able to pull that off, which is so important for their relationship moving forward. Also wise choice making Tommy a father. Helps to compare and contrast him with Joel, and points back to the thesis statement of the show.
The Last of Us est pour moi le plus beau chef d’œuvre narratif vidéoludique.
@Fan Pops, 33:33 Do you really want to know? I took a quick scan of your comments and many of them don't want you to know, lol. This is one hell of a cliffhanger, isn't it? The game does the same to those playing, lol. It's not done in the same way, but the feelings you're feeling is the same we felt playing the game. We had to do a bit of a side-quest with Ellie, a bit of a long one too, before what found out what happened after this event. This preview is an expansion of the expansion pack that came out after the game. I can't wait for this story. I wonder if it'll be another 1 1/2 hour stories. There's enough story there for that. We've got three episodes left and with what's coming, I'm expecting some really long stories what what's remaining, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I'm blown away by how well this has turned out. This team has failed yet, and they aren't going to. They are going to stick the landing, and I can't wait to see how they do it. HBO chose correctly; everyone was well casted. What a team HBO assembled, and what a story they are telling! I'm so happy they chose to do this as a TV series and not a movie. This could have been like Sony's Uncharted. Thank gawd it isn't.
So glad you left both scenes in this reaction.. the tommy one and the ellie one towards the end .. most reactions gloss over it.. gg n thanks cause now everyone can get it..... Why we love this game and show..
No spoilers: yes there was an attack in the university, yes Joel did get punctured in that general area, just different weapon and method. In the game he fell into a rod. That chapter in the game ends exactly like this episode(Joel falls off the horse, Ellie panics), with the same question of what will happen next with/without Joel.
He's upset cause Tommy didn't bother to tell him he's okay. This whole journey started cause he thought Tommy was in trouble and he wanted to search for him, he lost Tess, almost died a few times, and turns out Tommy is living good and happy, DUH
In the game Joel gets injured severely but I think he fell on a piece of rebar instead of getting stabbed. The game also drags out letting you know whether or not he lives.
Yes, the scene was similar in the game and then you had to play with Ellie. Was a shock. Joel to Ellie: "Dream of sheep ranches on the moon." This sentence says so much. Joel already connects Ellie's dreams with his. Next episode Ashley Johnson (Game Ellie) will get an appearance in the Ellie Flashback. We probably already met Dina in this episode. This might be the one who Ellie yelled during dinner and/or the one who sat next to her in the cinema.
I literally said, "No!" when Joel pulled out the piece of the baseball bat he was stabbed with. You NEVER do that. I hope Pedro gets nominated for an Emmy. That monolog was so well-acted.
Normally no, but in a situation where you need to escape on a horse in a hurry, that broken bat is going to cause terrible damage from the movement. He's better off risking bleeding out over shredding his internal organs.
I would just wait til after the show, but the original cast of the game did a live action reenactment of a few key scenes a few years back, y’all should check that out after the show ends.
Bella absolutely stole this scene ... Her pronunciation of her lines was incredible ❤ that articulation man... Thats incredible acting... As if that wasn't clear anyway but wow... Bella ❤
Im not sure i knew what it was when i first watched lol….never used one. I also think its redundant bc they already had ellie find tampons earlier in season. Dont need multiple moments about periods lol
@@laurenbendik2006 1. I’m sorry that’s just you. I’m sorry you feel like that was just such a time suck to a 9 episode season. 2. I mean if we’re going to get into the nitty gritty of things… those tampons were expired and not safe to use. They likely had mold and various bacteria grown inside them. They’re 20 years old. They’re protected by cardboard-they absorb moisture. That entire scene of her even finding them was clearly not run by a woman or a doctor because they would have addressed that painfully obvious fact-the cup was entirely appropriate and logical for the story.
You guys a genuinely friendly and amazing reactors. ❤ going to subscribe. Also I love and jelly that non gamers will experience the show and game the first time. Same story but with more added content.
There is a difference between communism in reference to politics and in economics. People often think the two are the same. Maria was referring to commune living where they share everything so it has nothing to do with political ideals.
Someone will wonder why Joel decided to get rid of Ellie and put it on his brother's shoulders. The answer is simple... A form of self-defense. At first, Ellie was just cargo. Over time, Joel cares more and more about Ellie. Now Ellie is no longer just cargo. She has become someone close to Joel and the knowledge that he may fail her causes fear, helplessness and panic that Joel began to feel. He is afraid of disappointing himself, Ellie and even Tess, to whom he promised this.
This is why this has been the only shooter video game that I like. There are so many video games out there where you can just turn off your feelings and become a killing machine, shooting and killing your way into getting better and better at such violence with no issues, but this game was different. It was created so that you feel remorse for killing, especially the NPCs you don't have to kill. (like most of the dogs) This world is still so far fetched but it to me allows me to feel the way I would feel if this were to really take place. For to many of us, life is worth something and to just kill with no remorse is not in any way desirable.
Joel die, Ellie back to Jackson to tell Tommy, then here we go.. Ellie + Tommy continuing the journey.. dam.. the writer always take away someone we love right..
Zero spoilers here, but based on next episode trailer prepare for a lot of Ellie and make sure you have tissue paper. This episode will setup a arc for Ellie that is both exciting but also pretty scary. In the game, I died a lot and it was hard to get through. I can’t wait :) Edit: these scenes were some of the most game accurate ones I’ve seen, and (no spoiler) Joel does get similarly wounded in the game.
Jesus, do you want to know or not? I don't know what they will do in the show, but just put it this way - remember Bill made it through a similar wound and also Ellie is smart and resourceful.
Episode 3. Bill is wounded in the gut and Frank is treating him all by himself and the scene fades to black. And Bill lived. Was it total coincidence that I went through all the trouble of reminding you of that or is it a not so subtle hint of Joel's status in the game after grappling with a raider at the university only to fall from a 2nd story window. ONTO [REDACTED REDACTED REDACTED THROUGH AND THROUGH HIS REDACTED!!!]?
You are doing a disservice to yourselves by watching the trailers for the next episodes.... and your viewers. B/c you're getting clues about the future and therefore watching your reactions aren't as good. Just saying.
Thank you for the feedback @M. So we try to be as real and transparent as possible by watching the shows as we normally would. Is Joel dead? Why didn't they just tell Maria about Ellies immunity and their mission to save humanity. She saw the dog's reaction to her, and they could have got a squadron together to protect her and get her to the fireflies. But no, they sent her back out there with one failing old man...

You guys forgot that Joel moved heaven and earth to find Tommy thinking because he wasn’t answering the radio meant he was in trouble. Very dangerous path Joel went through and Tess died in the process. That’s why he’s upset with Tommy and not because he’s jealous like you said.
My guess is Joel is not only jealous of Tommy's family but angry that Tess died because Tommy didn't send a message to say he was happy and safe.
Ohh ur right. He wouldnt have to go anywhere without his desire to go find him. No motivation to take ellie to west.
Don’t spoil them let’s be great tlou fans please I enjoy their raw reactions
So many of you spoiled it in the comments already lol
I think the show leaving this moment on a cliff-hanger of sorts is a good reason to not confirm or deny what his fate may be.
I was still watching when commenting but yes, whilst there's some slight deviation, all of this episode runs pretty closely with the game.
I mean in the game it wasnt too obvious too whether or not joel was dead or alive but this episode made it even more ambiguous.
I think the game did it's own version of a cliffhanger. Only when you hear Ellie ask for medicine from David and Buddy-boy do you get a hint that Joel is still alive.
@@YasonYou Yep!
I really like the back and forth between the two of you about Joel's possible fate. 😂
That was like my inner dialogue when i watched lol….’it should die if we are being realistic, but i cant handle it if he does so im just gonna hope’

In the game they fought the raiders in the building and Joel gets tackled by a raider, falls from the 3rd floor, and gets skewered by rebar
Joel: “So communists?”
Tommy: “Not exactly.”
Maria: “Yeah exactly. This is a commune. We’re communists.”
Tommy: “ 🤯 “
He did not like that at all😂😂
Then Joel: 😏
Yeah, most people can't distinguish the differences objective truth and an subjective political truth.

Tommy and joels scene is one of the best ever put to film ❤ incredible
That scene was in the game but he feel off a balcony and landed on a metal rod instead of get stabbed.
Love the live action.. not only making npc feel legit but totally makin joel normal ❤

Tommy ghosted his last living kin. Mixed with anger (Tess' death & perilous journey), resentment and jealousy.
One of the best.. npc toons have been just as good..everyone deserves an oscar everyone
no spoilers in the comments pls 😭
i think you should never know. let the show tell the story. it's for the best
33:29 without spoiling anything, this does happen in the game.

"Did he just die?"

Am I the only one who thinks Tommy is so f* selfish? Joel was worried about him, was looking for him and he didn't bother to let him know he was fine.
Great review
To put it simply, the game is a lot less ambiguous. The injury is worse and there’s way more blood.
