  • East Coast Gear Supply details replacement of the Toyota 8 reverse clamshell needle bearing found in 03 and Up 4runners, 2005 and Up Tacomas, and FJ Cruisers. Do to sharp CV angles usually exaggerated by lift kits, the stock needle bearing can develop considerable wear and cause a growling noise as well as a vibration. The special Sintered PTFE bushing developed by ECGS eliminates slop and can control side load more efficiently. ECGS also offers the tool for removal of the bearing while the diff remains in the vehicle.

Works amazingly well and solves the issue of growling and vibration even with a small OME lift. Great product!

I need to do this soon. Just did a lift then found out about this problem.

I have a 2007 FJ cruiser with a leaking inner axle seal that still leaks after replacing the seal a couple times, will this sleeve resolve my leak? The vehicle has 200k miles and I notice quite a bit of slop at the diff/cv axle on the drivers side.

You mentioned replacing the seal. That should be done AFTER the new bushing is installed, right? Also, is the installation “tool” that you were tapping on included?

How do you know when the bushing is fully seated ?

You’ll hear a different deeper sound when tapping in place. Tik tik tik TOCK

Hey how far in does the busing go?

Great job! Looks like an smooth job any mechanical type person will have no problems installing it on their truck. It's not just for lifted trucks a stock trucks should be upgrade to fix the loose roller bearing problem with this bushing replacement. Only the drivers side needs replacing. I would like to be one of the first to purchase this upgrade.
    Thanks!

Interesting.. You could save a lot of time if you bought a set of gear wrenches !

Okay my question is what does the CV axle grab onto when you put it in with this new bushing because, in the beginning you can see the little splines that the axle want to grab onto when slid into the the differential but the new bushing that you put in there look smooth on the inside so I don't quite get it or am I missing something. Sorry if it's a dumb question but figured I would ask anyways

The cv axel is held in place with the c-clip on the end of the splines. Neither the needle bearing nor the bushing have anything to do with holding the axel in place. The CV axel isn’t supposed to grab the bushing or the needle bearing.

This bushing dose not go in to were the splines are. Trust me I am in the middle of this job on my 2019 Toyota tacoma trd off rd with a 3.5" lift needed to be done

Is it really a good idea to install a bushing as opposed to a bearing there? Going down the road in 2WD that axle is really going to be spinning fast inside that bushing. With such tight tolerances and no injected/pumped in oil to the bushing surface, there won't be much room for an oil film either.
Lockers - like you mention in your other video are a different story as they turn the front axle into a live axle. At that point, the axle and carrier are locked in unison. But with an open diff the axle needs to spin freely from the carrier. A bushing, as opposed to a bearing, just seems like a bad idea.
If this is a reoccurring problem would it not be more effective to install this busing but ALSO eliminate the automatic differential disconnect? Or at least lock it in the 4x4 position making the front end a live axle.
As long as there's an open diff it seems that sleeve is going to cook from the axle spinning at a high rate of speed inside that bushing. A bushing is going to have a lot more friction than a bearing.

@@kimbuck-2 No. When I had to replace the bearing in my 4Runner, I just had another factory bearing installed. I'm not playing with a bushing.

Put the bushing in the freezer for a few hours..could help the install
