As I recall, this song was #1 for 16 weeks on the charts at the time. Saw them live twice in the late 60s and they were magnificent. They had been my favorite artists of all time up until the A cappella vocal band Home Free during the past 10 years. Both groups share the same style of talent, timing, harmonies, and the special way they soothe the heart and soul with their music.

Phil Spector's arrangements and recording techniques were the perfect match for these guys to light up the great songs they sang. Incredible lush and tasteful atmosphere for them to exist in. I am 44,and was blessed to see The Righteous Brothers in concert in Reno when I was a kid, just before Bobby was hospitalized here with cancer. The girl who arranged the social part was the wife of the team captain and turned out to be Welsh. She had a bit of a falling out with her husband over something or other and my entire team, plus supporters, serenaded her with this song. It worked. I will never forget the look in her eyes as she watched the boys slowly approaching and then looked to her man. Pure joy.

Here's a fun fact: The Righteous Brothers were the opening act on The Beatles first American tour. Pretty good way to be introduced to America (although they'd already had their first hit, "Little Latin Lupe Lu," which was written by Bill Medley of the Righteous Brothers. Then, they left the Beatles tour when an opportunity arose to be one of the "house" groups on a landmark TV show, "Shindig!" on ABC Television. "Shindig!" was the first rock-and-roll music TV show on network television in prime time. The show also launched the careers of people like the Blossoms, Leon Russell, and Billy Preston, all of whom were, at one time or another, part of the house band or the house sound on "Shindig!" A TV show that nobody in my generation will ever forget.

There are so few that can sing like these guys! Btw, you would love Alan Parsons. His music is so ethereal, but with a blend of different styles. Jazz, pop, 80s- type techno, old school, new age. There isn't anyone else like it. 'Eye in the Sky', 'Time', 'Games people play', 'The Raven'. To start.

Listening to them is why the baby boom happened in the 60s.

I always love watching people react to Righteous Brothers. Still waiting to see you react to Skinny Puppy - Tin Omen

You may like the song “Friends of Mr Cairo”, by Jon & Vangelis. Its a tribute to old movies I think. Also tye song is a bit of a journey, with some really beautiful vocals by Jon Anderson (lead singer for the group Yes).

Badfinger, early 70's group. The writers of Without You, most recorded song. Lead singer Pete Ham had one of the most beautiful voices for a male.

One of the background singers was a young teenaged unknown named Cher.

I am so glad you are discovering the oldies. I was one of the guys to suggest Stevie Ray Vaughan and your reaction to it was absolutely worth the wait! Another group you would do well to have listen to is the Bee Gees. 'Too Much Heaven' or 'Stayin' Alive' are two good introductions to this super group. Please do us a favor and give them a try. 🙂

Ok, I feel like an idiot. I searched your channel and did not find the Bee Gees. Only to realize I misspelled their name. Doh! 🤦‍♂ Anyway, thanks for the great reactions. 👍

Rock and Roll Heaven was another big hit of theirs.
Back when I was a kid my great uncle owned a bar in the town we lived in. My grandfather, his brother, my grandmother, my great aunt, my uncle and my father worked there at times.
We'd go on the weekends, back when family services wouldn't get called, for dinner, hanging out playing pinball, shuffleboard and dropping dimes in the jukebox, 3 songs for a dime, and all the stuff from the fifties and sixties were in there.

Bill Medley (Baritone singer) still sings today with new singing partner when he revived Righteous Brothers in 2016. His longtime singing partner, Bobby Hatfield died of complications of coronary disease in his hotel room in Michigan. Bobby failed to show up for the concert. Bill and road manager found him in his room in November of 2003.
