I love how the triplets in the chorus were written to hit the up beat with the snare, and the bass on the down beat- when i listen with my eyes closed, it creates a "push pull" feeling in my brain. Genius
its called a polyrhythm
Just goes to show these guys know how to write a song well
Good songwriting is a skill people dont appreciate enough nowadays
@@XxCHRISchaosxX is the triplet in the same time signature as the snare? If so it's honestly not that impressive, still a stellar song.
a nice beat for sure
Damn I really need to learn more about music because I want to understand what this meant lol. I just get the feeling from the music that you are absolutely on point
It's like a reggae hyperballad. The polyrhythms give me goosebumps.
Gosh, can't you guys just be excited for a new song? I don't get why people bash bands for changing a little. All songs cannot sound the same, or they would all be the same song... We all change, we all evolve. I think this is amazing.
THANK YOU.
Because this is youtube dude. If you came here to read comments head over to reddit.
If things change people complain. If things stay the same people complain. People love to complain. Whiny babies...
Sure they can be the same. Just listen to any nickelback songs
^ lmao
Seriously, the vocals are just so breathtaking, the background effects. It's really a work of art, absolutely beautiful.
THOSE ARPEGGIATED TRIPLETS IN THE CHORUS MAKE THE SONG 30x BETTER
YAAASSSSS
agreed, especially cause they're in a different time signature than most of the song, which makes a cool polyrhythm :D

No idea what the fuck that means but whatever it is makes the chorus sound amazing...
This sounds as good as their past work, but even more careful, melodic, and polished in style. I absolutely love this song.
I disagree with anyone who says this album was too “pop” or mainstream- sonically this album was more fresh and still had dark elements with dark lyricism. Give it a closer listen next time.
Kai Broomfield I agree
Would not want to be someone who said it was too pop rn damn
@@benwoodcock8805 Whys that Woodcock? Genre wise its bubblegummy dream poppy manic pixie girl pink stuff. About as pop as it gets. Poppier than Gaga. It's so poppy its poppier than what is popular here currently. kpop reaches poppiness like this but not like Britney Spears or Beyonce. It's so poppy it's literally a part of the genre called Dream Pop guys. It's not an insult to be pop.
@@raindropskeepfallin i was being sarcastic r*tard
@@raindropskeepfallin this is very poppy but definitely not Dream Pop
I love this. Megan's voice is seriously touching. I'm melting over how good this is.
You were young and you'd stare
With a reverence unimpaired
There was an echo far and faint
Beneath the air remained
You were young and you'd stare
Where my limbs hung far and fair
Make a ladder of what folds
And climb up in me
You push and you pull and you tell yourself no its like when you lie down, the veins grow in slow
You push and you pull
But you'd never know
I crept up in you and I
Wouldn't let go
There was no light and I swear
I could see your raring fear
I heard the plains moaning back
I saw thunder roll o'er black
There was no light and I swear
We sat still in our fear
Make a ladder of what folds
And climb up in me
You push and you pull
And you tell yourself no
It's like when you lie down
The veins grow in slow
You push and you pull
But you'd never know
I crept up in you and I
Wouldn't let go
I carve out the spaces (and I)
Imparted graces (and I)
I couldn't shake it (and I)
I built a constellation lair
Out of the moles that hovered there a fever billowed with the wind and I blade the sky therein
I build a constellation lair
Out of the moles that hovered there make a pardon of what knows and climb up in me
You push and you pull and you tell yourself no it's like when you lie down the veins grow in slow
You push and you pull
But you'd never know
I crept up in you and I
Wouldn't let go
You push and you pull and you tell yourself no
It's like when you lie down the veins grow in slow
You push and you pull
But you'd never know
I crept up in you and I
Wouldn't let go 😊
Accidentally wandered upon this. Never heard this genre before. Magical, imaginative and haunting are words that come to mind with this group for me. "Begin Again" is another one that painted a perfect picture in my head of beauty in destruction. Well crafted.
This is already the best music that is out in the world right now. Thank you, Purity Ring.
They're back...! Purity Ring and Flume should collab on a project! That would make my life.
That would be amazing!
yes omg +111111
Flume is my favorite! Just imagine the possibility!
Indeed they are! I love this idea!!! FlumeAUS
That would be so awesome!
I absolutely love her voice. Definitely one of my favourite singers of all time. Can't wait for the new album ^^
There are no genres, only good music, and bad music. This, is good music.
Her sleep number is negative fifty.
This comment is gold and deserves so many more likes
just yes
Ha more like negative over nine thousand
+Queniff R Nice.
+Auzzy G More like "It's over NINE-THOUSAND" I know its what u was getting at though :D
I don't know if this will resonate with anyone else, but my impression of this song is that it sounds like it was created for a movie soundtrack. It's like "Lights" by Phantogram. It's not bad, but it feels kind of uncharacteristic of the band. It has a sort of generic beat and rhythm to it, like it's made to play in the background of a sentimental movie scene, you know?
On first listen, I was super disappointed, because I had such high expectations for whatever would come after Shrines. After a few more listens (with headphones. you really should use them, to fully feel and appreciate Corin's textured production and Megan's beautiful vocals) I came to enjoy it for what it is.
The chorus especially is really powerful. Megan's lyrics are fantastic, as expected. Repeat listening in a relaxed setting with an open mind free of expectations will definitely result in the song creeping up in you, and not letting go ;)
#1 this is the best comment on this thread. #2 i thought the exact same thing about the movie soundtrack. the whole time i kept thinking this sounds like it was made for something like the hunger games. it stands out from their usual sound.
Morgan McCormick you guys make me sad....what was shrines? a concept album? what a concept. i am sure this song will make the record.
joe keigans No doubt this song will make the record, it's the leading single for the record (which, a month or so ago, they said was on their laptop and finished). All I was saying was the general sound of the song had the feel of a song that could have been written for a movie soundtrack.
if that is true it makes me happy
If you watch some interviews they did, they say they wanted to change their sound with next album. It does sound like a movie soundtrack but it may just be them changing. It's not a bad song no matter what it is.
I hope more people are admiring their music--as a whole, Purity Ring's music has the most surreal lyrics of any song I've experienced. The otherworldly feeling that it brings me when her voice and the background music combine is unexplainable! Somehow, this group creates music that makes you feel nostalgic for no specific reason. I had stopped listening to their music a few years ago, and I had forgotten about them until I found an old Spotify playlist. I heard Repetition and I was already listening to their entire album. Amazing!
My new favorite band.
Same.....
not.
my favorite band is still Queen
L00T3R123 how can it feel like acid if you've never done acid. It's what you think it might feel like.
There is truly no other band more unique and original than Purity Ring. No one could copy Corrin and Megan's sound if they tried.
I still can't believe how beautiful it is
It's not Trap, it's not Indie, I don't know what you people are talking about. Purity Ring is a Witch House band, like Grimes. I hope that helps the people looking for more. I love this song.
Grimes isn't even witch house lol
Grimes and Purity Ring have some witch house influences, but they're most certainly not in the genre.
Luke Gillin why the fuck does it fucking matter what genre something is.
***** I never said it did.
I don't think Grimes is Witch House at all. Not that genres are a big deal anyway.
LMAO, neither are witch house.
It's a bit more pop BUT I still love them. And this song, glad to hear her voice again
***** dream pop
Michael Lagerman stfu pop
Peter Maher lmao
LOVE LOVE LOVE! If this is the new direction they're going in, I can't wait for the album.
Excellent. One of my all time favourite tracks. Heard courtesy of the excellent BBC radio 1. I have to say their other stuff while good feels like it was reaching for this.
when you love a song but it reminds you of difficult times.
+Coolhhhwhip aka a Monday alarm
A lot of their songs do that for me. Its a painful nostalgia
this and Bodyache....
It reminds me when my life changed
It reminds of the times in my life when I was all drugged up. Listening to it sort of triggering but im stronger than that
This song would be perfect for a movie - perhaps a scene where someone loves a person that does not feel the same way, or they 'dont even know they exist', and it plays as they watch the person they love, moving through life without them - everything moving on the screen in slow motion....
Fantastic track. From a fellow Albertan: keep up the great work ya'll!
this is a great track. loved it, and i've listened to it about 5 times now. can't wait for the rest of the album. been waiting a loooooooong time for this.
props to you guys for making whatever the hell you want as artists no matter how or who people will think you "sound like".
love this song! one of my FAVORITES! thank you, purity ring. come back to cleveland
The start snatches so hard
+MauWelch snatch
The hell does "snatch" mean in this context?
idk really I saw it on twitter. I think it's like it makes you shocked or very amazed 😂😂😂
Twitter comes up with the strangest slang I stg
ikr!!!
the two year wait was worth it
CHYEAH BOI
Such a gorgeous step forward, loving it!
I still love this song
Absolutely wonderful. So excited for their new album.
I love her! She makes the most unique songs!
This band has definitely that "something special"
You give me chill bumps every time
So excited to see new stuff from purity ring. Anxiously awaiting the album drop!
When I first heard it, I was like "eeehhhh. Idk. Not as dark as I'd like". Now I can't stop playing it!
This calms my soul so damn much....So angry at myself for discovering this song now. Definitely my new Jam!
this touched my heart from how beautiful this is. almost makes me wanna shed a tear
I listened to Shrines the other day and wondered when they'd release something new. I wake up and this shows up. My day is made.
I just want to cry at how perfect Purity Ring is. omg
I'm 43 yrs. old. I hate new music. That being said, this is AMAZING! Kudos.
+Rob Cosentino Aye!
Shut up boomer
@@aethissykes Gen X Dumbass! Go clean your room, punk!
glad to hear them again + excited about discovering renata raksha's art! thanksss
Welcome back, guys!! Missing these nice trips and breaks, thnk u!
Purity Ring share new track 'push pull'.
This is incredible and so addictive.
How have I never heard their music. This is amazing.
Thank you Purity Ring for coming back. I've been desperately waiting for too long for your glorious return. Every song on Shrines has literally been played over one thousand times on my I-pod. Fineshrine has 1687 plays, and Ungirthed (my favorite) has over 1971 plays. All I have is love for you guys! Thank you for the new song.
Top notch - like, the toppest of notches.
I think they may be going in a lighter direction since shrines was full of dark, deeper songs. I definitely think they're experimenting with their sound and I am absolutely in LOVE with with this song! It sounds so fresh and new and I'm honestly just way more excited about the fact they're releasing new music!! Yes, it does sound different and dare I say "mainstream-ish" but that's not a bad thing because I feel like this song would appeal to more people which is great because Purity Ring deserves to gain more fans! I really look forward to what comes next!!!!
I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS ALBUM
I'm so looking forward to hearing more more from Purity Ring. They have an extraordinary sound sound.
Their Facebook genre is listed as "future pop." so I don't know why everyone's so shocked that this sounds "poppy." Read the lyrics, Megan is such a poet. SO excited for an upcoming album and absolutely LOVE this single!!!
Was going through a transition, and found this song. Not normally, i actually was going through brain wave, so the lyrics, as not always understood, i somehow did, somehow didnt, relate to it, in some strange telephatic way. No many out there would say the same, but i felt some connection with this. Its nice. I still feel for this music/art like a memory
AWESOME piece of music!!
I love this song so much wtf. It's a visceral experience, resonates deep down in your soul and guts. x.
CAN'T STOP LISTENING!!!
FINALLY! New Purity Ring!!!
So so so happy theres finally a new song. My favorite band 💘
Great song. Looking forward to the album!
I love this. It's orignal Purity Ring, yes it's more "pop"py but it's not like they're selling out. they are expanding and discovering new sounds. I personally can't get enough. It has everything Shrines had and then some. They are nailing it.
I feel like its a much "cleaner" sound that what was on their previous album. Great track! Can't wait for the album
Glad Purity Ring is making new stuff, can't wait till another album - man
So excited for the new album.
FOUR years ago I found this song. I'm listening again after four years. Oml yes.
I really like this track! I feel like it's a nice comeback from shrines. It reminds me a lot of the songs from lights' siberia album
Best band in existence and I'm in love with this song and fine shrine
My heart says thank you for making beautiful music.
Thank you for great music
this hits you like the sun exploding right in front of your eyes.
Tickets booked to see you guys in Leeds, England. MUCH HAPPINESS!
Finally a graphic that moves with the music. I love you purity ring and i would do anything to see you guys for the first time!
A bit different from Shrines. Still sounds really good!
Beautiful. Somewhere between Shrines and their collaboration with Jon Hopkins. (Fingers crossed for more collab tracks in the future!)
Gettin' a little excited. :)
can` t wait for the new album love them !
It has been so long and this track is so beautiful!
Ever since 2012 I have been waiting for a new song/album and the wait is over, I'm crying so badly haha holy shit
almost 3 mil views and no one said anything about the floating lady
its not real, read the description
just realized that too.
I like her ankles
No good bands keep the same exact sound each album. That would be boring. This seems slightly different, but definitely still Purity Ring, and I really like it. First listen and I got goosebumps like 5 times lol. Excited to hear the rest of their new stuff.
Literally almost all death metal: *I beg to differ.*
WHOOHOOOO! Can't wait for the new album guys!
Amazing artist's wow! Underrated in this realm atleast. On repeat. What I was looking for but can't be searched. Thank you
So happy I was randomly awake for this! An excellent start to the new music, really interesting stuff, can't wait to play the new album to death :D
I hope this means a new album is in the works. Don't be like Phantogram and keep us in suspense for like 2 years.
Right?! It was like having blue balls!
Jose Luna Dude are you from St.Louis because I know a Jose Luna?
More importantly, don't be like Aphex Twin and keep us in suspense for over a decade.
James Krudop and then drop a disappointment
pepperoni onion I dunno, I thoroughly enjoyed Syro. Sure it's no Richard D. James Album or ...I Care Because You Do. But, it was definitely something I can honestly say I haven't heard before.
cant wait for the album.should pre order the vinyl..
OBSESSED with this group
How have I missed this for a whole month?! I'm preordering this album for sure!
Already pre-ordered it! -Justin Tallman (your brother) have you heard begin again?
