Quick correction so no one gets it wrong on their history exams: Anmundsen was the first to reach the south pole, but he didn't discover Antarctica. That happened nearly a hundred years earlier. I don't even play NH but my favourite reference character has to be Marlo. Brandon stuffed cotton balls in his cheeks for that performance, so having him as a hamster villager is just perfect.
Honestly if people take their history lessons answers from a RUclips video about Animal Crossing, they shouldn't get help 🥺 its like the digital survival of the fittest
Another thing about Gloria the duck, in Pocket camp, theres a little thing that pops up in the loading screen that says "somehow, she got it in her head that shes actually a swawn. So just play along ok?" So that might be spot on.
I always thought the penguin Roald was named after Roald Dahl. I didn't do any research or anything, just thought that in my little 10 year old brain when I had him in my village.
I like how this channel goes in depth about Animal Crossing far beyond other creators I’ve seen, and I like that, it keeps everything fresh and entertaining. Great work 👍
elvis is my favorite villager so i do wanna add that the favorite saying is his old one - in the newer games, his favorite saying is "better a live coward than a dead hero" which, to me, tries tying him in with the cowardly lion from the wizard of oz weirdly enough.
this one is a fictional character rather than an actual person, but the villager Pierce may be named after the character Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce from the popular tv show MASH, as Pierce in game's catchphrase is Hawkeye, and the tennis sweater he wears in New Horizons was a popular style around the 1950s, which is the time period the show MASH is based on.
I really appreciate how you included my video with Orville doing the shocked reaction with the fisheye lens at 12:00. I've been watching your videos for about a month and they're interesting and entertaining to watch, so it's time for me to subscribe 👍🏻😉
Cyrano is one of my favorites. But my favorite villager, Melba, is partially named after Nellie Melba. Melba is from both Melbourne and Melba toast, which was named after Nellie Melba. Oh and speaking of normal koalas, Alice was named after Alice Springs, which was named after Alice, Lady Todd. Sydney was also named after Sydney, which was named for Thomas Townsend, 1st Viscount Sydney.
"not to bore you with too much Julius Cesar Lore-" joke's on you, I'm a tumblr user, and on tumblr, for some reason, we celebrate the Ides of March. To my best guess, this is due to a picture circulating that was just a steak knife stabbing a bottle of ranch dressing. One person was very confused and didn't get the joke, and everyone was like "nobody tell them" and now we celebrate the Ides of March.
Pietro, the rainbow clown sheep, is named after Pietro Aretino, an Italian man who famously died from laughing. Kind of a dark story, but I think it’s really cool and Pietro is one of my favorites!
Gloria's character card in animal crossing pocket camp says "somehow Gloria got the idea that she is a swan" so I think the Gloria Swanson reference is intentional!
Caesar is probably a reference to actor Cesar Romero, known for that pencil moustache. You youngsters 😆 You're also pronouncing Cyrano weird. It's like See-Ra-No.
Are basing this off the name?Cousteau is a frog Jacques Cousteau is a scuba diver kinda frogs swim so I think it makes more sense for Cousteau to be named after him.
Don’t forget the Japanese names for Raneigh and CJ, which are Rianna and Justin, respectively! Named after pop stars Rihanna and Justin 😉 Love your vids as always! Love your 100 days series!
marlo always gave me godafther vibes. i have hin on my island! The fact that Animal crossing grandma got a character named after her is the best thing ever,.
this is kinda sad but I got teddy on my island when I 2ndly started animal crosssing(I deleted my previous game on accident and got sad and hated they game for a year). My old dog was named teddy so to just see an islander that has the same name as my old dog was so heartwarming to me and he is my favorite islander now. I have a his picture ilh so much.
What about the horse Elmer being a dark reference to Elmer’s Glue? Is this something? This is at the back of my head when I see the name. I also understand that orginal japanese names are difrent and they are translated into english in an inventive manner.
If you haven't already made one, can we get a video about the history of either unused content or characters who don't show up in latter games? Or maybe one on the evolution of town decorating or comparing villagers personalities between games?
Eventually! They take more than three months to play, and then also editing takes forever, so I try to cool down a little after getting one done. Will do them all and then some other cool ideas down the road!
octavian is more likely just a play on oct=8 and him being an octopus villager, but I wonder if there's some sort of connection to Augustus, who's also often called Octavian by historians
The bear Klaus. It isn't obvious, you need to know several things first. 1. In this case, Klaus isn't the abbreviation of Nicholas, but of Claudius. 2. There was a roman imperator, Claudius, who was head of the state from the year 41 to 54. His son was the definitely more widely known emperor Nero. Now you know why he is wearing a toga. Speaking of people of the antiquity: Ankha's german name is Kleo (after Kleopatra VII)
Looking at villager and special character names in other languages can be interesting, though I wouldn't blame you for NOT doing a video on that. But for example, C.J.'s Japanese name is Jasutin, or "Justin". Because he's a beaver.
This might be a stretch but what if Raymond was named Raymond from Raymond reddington from the blacklist, I think that was pretty popular at the time. He is a businessman 🤷♀️
Small nitpick - but Benjamin Franklin didn't actually suggest the turkey as America's national animal. Rather, he was objecting to the idea of the bald eagle as the national animal, as he believed it to "be a bird of bad character." He was basically saying "if we're going to pick something as bad as the bald eagle then we might as well just make it a turkey." He's still associated with turkeys because of it, so I think it's a fitting name regardless! Plus, I can't be the only one who thinks Franklin the turkey and Franklin the Founding Father share at least a passing resemblance, right? 😆
This could be a bit of a stretch but I have a sneaking suspicion the villager Marshal is based off of Eminem. For one, Eminem’s real name is Marshall (granted it’s spelled slightly differently) and Marshal in animal crossing is blonde, much like eminem was during the peak of his career. Also if you talk to Marshal a lot in ACNH, he’ll literally say something along the lines of “Looking for a rap session with Marshal?” Again, just speculation but I’ve always found this interesting haha
About the Wilbur and Orville one, I had a theory they made Wilbur and Orville dodos because that planes can fly and birds can fly so- Anyways that was my theory.
Mmm I do think a lot of these are a stretch The fact most of these are references to American things… Why would a Japanese company add so many american references? I don’t know, I’m British and half of these I was like ???
localised names are different. coco's name in Japanese is やよい which in no way is similar to coco, it's just how the localisers decided to translate it. in this case, American localisers.
Roald Amundsen wasn't the first to explore it, far from it. The British have been in Antarctica years before he ever set foot. In fact, when Roald was in Antarctica, the British and Japanese had their own expeditions going on at the same time. So, yeah not the first to explore it. Bad history lesson in this video but whatever, viewers don't care, just mindless entertainment while they eat lunch.
I meaaan for the sake of the video I’m not trying to do a full on deep drive of who Roald Amundsen was but he commonly is credited for being the first to the South Pole. I guess I could of worded it differently but we’re just trying to explain who the penguin is named after
lol first to the south pole. that's why he's credited as a a great explorer in Antarctica. You could say first to explore the most symbolic part of Antarctica.
Man I know I say it like every other chance I get, but why are there so many fugly villagers in NH? I know all of the designs can't be Fauna tier designs, but like, come on.....
Quick correction so no one gets it wrong on their history exams: Anmundsen was the first to reach the south pole, but he didn't discover Antarctica. That happened nearly a hundred years earlier.

I swear having an animal crossing villager named after you has got to be the coolest thing
I always thought the penguin Roald was named after Roald Dahl. I didn't do any research or anything, just thought that in my little 10 year old brain when I had him in my village.
OMG SAME 😂
I was told it was just a pun name that "Roald" sounds like "cold". No namesake.
I like how this channel goes in depth about Animal Crossing far beyond other creators I’ve seen, and I like that, it keeps everything fresh and entertaining. Great work 👍
@CKurly_fries21 I’ll let you decide that one.
elvis is my favorite villager so i do wanna add that the favorite saying is his old one - in the newer games, his favorite saying is "better a live coward than a dead hero" which, to me, tries tying him in with the cowardly lion from the wizard of oz weirdly enough.

That's a neat little reference if that's true, I love M*A*S*H anyway
I really appreciate how you included my video with Orville doing the shocked reaction with the fisheye lens at 12:00. I've been watching your videos for about a month and they're interesting and entertaining to watch, so it's time for me to subscribe 👍🏻😉

There’s also Norma the cow! She is most likely named after Norma Lyon who is also known as “The Butter Cow Lady” :)
I be watching you, Popendo, and GameSam but I’m subscribed to all you and love you three!
Love seeing a Rocket Elijah upload.
I think Kiki is named after Kiki's Delivery Service!
Correction,Jacques the smug bird is actually named after Jacques Cousteau. Not the frog bc Jacques wears a hat unlike the frog
Are basing this off the name?Cousteau is a frog Jacques Cousteau is a scuba diver kinda frogs swim so I think it makes more sense for Cousteau to be named after him.
I skipped u oop
I have literally never seen “Ike” before in my life!!!
Don’t forget the Japanese names for Raneigh and CJ, which are Rianna and Justin, respectively! Named after pop stars Rihanna and Justin 😉 Love your vids as always! Love your 100 days series!
and eloise the elephant villager based off of a singer.
Justin Bieber or Justin Timberlake?
@@JadenYukifan28 he might be talking about justin bieber, Rihanna used to date him, I don't know about selena gomez and now he's a married man.
Ankha's german Name is based of Kleopatra.
I found it very impressive the information in this video and can’t imagine how much research this took. Nice vid btw I really liked it
marlo always gave me godafther vibes. i have hin on my island!
The fact that Animal crossing grandma got a character named after her is the best thing ever,.
For Judy, She has a similar dress too dorothy in the wizard of oz, so I guess so?
this is kinda sad but I got teddy on my island when I 2ndly started animal crosssing(I deleted my previous game on accident and got sad and hated they game for a year). I think that was intentional like how they called a cow Angus.
I'm sad that Wolfgang isn't here, I absolutely love the man he's named after to the point I have him as my profile picture
Missed this upload some how. fixing that real quick
Frenchies were once slandered as "Frogs".
I believe Graham is actually named after Chef Graham Elliot. There is quite the resemblance.
I love that you included Elvis. He’s on my island and he’s the best. He literally is the kind of the jungle, or island in this case.
Zipper’s italian name is Ovidio, a reference to the latin author of course
Nah, it’s 99.99% because it sounds like “ovum”, Latin for “egg”.
If you haven't already made one, can we get a video about the history of either unused content or characters who don't show up in latter games? Or maybe one on the evolution of town decorating or comparing villagers personalities between games?
louis is pronounced as "louie', btw
hey!!! love your videos!
Have you seen the villager Lionel? He literally looks like Lionel Richie 🥴
I didn’t catch the planet of the apes reference. I thought he was based off of Cesar Romero
Kevin the pigs birthday should be July 8th! That’s Kevin Bacons bday as well as mine 😋
Love your stuff! Will be be seeing 100 days in New Leaf or City Folk down the line?
Eventually! They take more than three months to play, and then also editing takes forever, so I try to cool down a little after getting one done. Will do them all and then some other cool ideas down the road!
@@RocketElijah the character of Cyrano's name is pronounced as "Sear-ano," if I'm correct
I think Tiffany might be named after Playboy Playmate Tiffany Fallon who won playmate of the year in 2005
octavian is more likely just a play on oct=8 and him being an octopus villager, but I wonder if there's some sort of connection to Augustus, who's also often called Octavian by historians
Is it possible to work with you on these Videos? I love searching for animal crossing facts/infos 😅
Groucho is named after Groucho Marx

Isn’t buzz named after a buzzard?
Cousteau is a jock? Jock Cousteau?
YOOOOOO
You forgot Redd! He's gotta be named after Red Foxx! My siblings and I refuse to believe otherwise 😂
His name is Redd because foxes are Red
5:16 Derwin reminds me of Chuckie from ”Rugrats”.
Rocket Elijah?
that's her real name?
Now I want all these guys lol
Btw you missed Eunice! Great video!
And Dolly, i think...
Who is she based on?
absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE Marcel Marceau and I'm hunting for Marcel for my island just because of him
Plz make i spent 100 day on city folk

Great Video
Pierce with catchphrase Hawkeye is a reference to the tv show MASH!!!
11:47 o my god I GOT ELVIS ON MY ISLAND
My naghbor has a kid named Rosie and I never noticed the connection between
the real life Rosie and acnh rosie
Dog most of these are a stretch lol
Did you do Pascal and I missed it?
Nifty idea, I am hooked to this channel.
And the most recent version of animal crossing i have played is pocket crossing. Lol fail
Henry's on my island. We're best buds! I have Roald, too.
C'est très intéressant. Merci ! 👍
Pierce was likely named after Hawkeye Pierce on M*A*S*H, and the eagle's catchphrase was "hawkeye".
This might be a stretch but what if Raymond was named Raymond from Raymond reddington from the blacklist, I think that was pretty popular at the time. He is a businessman 🤷♀️
great video!! now do it for the japan ver XD
Loved this video ❤
Not villagers, but there's there's Orville & Wilber who are named after the wright brothers

marlo has the same birthday as my mother and marina
but do you know that elvis the lion villager has his name based off the real elvis.

Where's the Michael Jackson guy?
Wait amelia is an eagle, I thought she was a chicken my whole life is a lie 😮

About the Wilbur and Orville one, I had a theory they made Wilbur and Orville dodos because that planes can fly and birds can fly so- Anyways that was my theory.

No need to be so rude and obnoxious about it; it’s not “mindless entertainment,” it’s good content that’s fun to watch. 🙄🙄🙄
Unnecessarily hostile comment. It's okay to correct or clarify information but the bit at the end was uncalled for Tonia.

Bro that cyd guy had a h@k3nkr3uz on his shirt (actually it was the whole flag 💀)
