It's all based off the aesthetic of the player, animal crossing is made predominantly by cottage core/fairy core and pastel palette oriented players, with the add of gothic players, and all the characters have the same personality, so people will eventually follow the most aesthetically fitting villager for their island.

People are going to pick characters that fit their aesthetic more. It isn't people being shallow its new horizons friendship system and dialog not being very expansive.

Lobo is not only one of my favorite wolves, he's one of my favorite villagers. I mean, wolves are my favorite animal and I quite like the cranky boys, so maybe a little biased. But Lobo and Whitney ALWAYS make it into my villages. Those are my number 1 and 2 villagers, honestly joint favorites if I'm being honest.
I think Soleil is very aesthetic looking, her coloring is nice and all and yet she's on the least loved list... can't relate, I have her and I'd ruin dynasties for her

I think most things can fit into an aesthetic so there technically isn't any that aren't aesthetic, but yea pretty much any villager that doesn't fit in with a cottage-core or fairy-core island isn't liked very much.

To everyone who's mad about their favorite villager being "hated". Most of the time people don't hate them! They are just least popular and there are other MORE popular villagers out there that people prefer.
She is actually my sister's favourite but my sister is very biased because her name is also Eloise. So her island has two people named Eloise and she finds that hilarious. I agree tho her design is great and when I helped Eloise (Sister) decorate the area outside Eloise's (Elephant) house I never got stuck and knew exactly what items to use/how I wanted it to look which is the test on good villager design for me.
I didnt know more people liked Antonio. I actually started with Antonio and Diva when I got the game and I genuinely love Antonio on personal terms. He's sweet and he likes to bring me things and tell me things AAAA
A lot of these really surprise me! I quite like most of the unfavored villagers. Naomi used to live in one of my old towns, and I loved her. It's interesting to see who ends up at the bottom-- it's never the villagers I'd say I liked the least. I do appreciate Nikachu being positive towards the unloved villagers, I found that wholesome.

Cranky villagers are the best! They are always such an amazing friend to have when they get to know you, it kinda sucks to see bruce, my favorite deer and my 3rd favorite character in this game in general was the least loved
I personally love grumpy villagers. The fact that I have CamoFrog from GameCube on my island brings me back to my childhood a little. I even added Octavian in. Grumpy villagers have a place on my island lol
My favorites are meringue, Egbert, and Cranston. I lost meringue after my switch broke and I had to get a replacement so I lost my previous island 😓 but I’m happy to have Egbert and Cranston! Meringue has hands down, the sweetest design of all the characters. I really love all of the ostriches, they’re just so awesome looking and their tails are so cute.

It's just taste and weirder animals are less likely to be loved (it's either mean look, bad colour combination, mustache or ugly eyes), I can't help but think all lions and mice in the game are ugly as hell, there're many animals that I met on islands and just laughed at how bad they're looking, but everyone has different opinions, so if you like them, why not?

I still find the thumbnail funny somewhat considering Fauna moved away with no warning in my town in NL after she had grown on me a lot; that hurt in a way I can't describe. Bruce is the only (current) deer I have in any of my AC games and tbh he's quite cool. He likes to wear rainbow sweaters and flower crowns despite being a cranky type. He doesn't give a damn about other people's opinions of him, and I can respect that
I'm sad to see Buzz is as the least liked eagle :c his personality is actually super adorable and is actually really nice. I find him watering my flowers all the time, and once I found him in the butterfly section of the museum admiring them. Unfortunately I no longer have him after resetting my island :C My goal is to find him again.

I have Bruce and I love him so much. He’s the first villager to ever compliment me on what I was wearing, and he’s always hanging out with Sheldon or Marshal. He wears the jacket I bought him all the time, and told me I know his sense of style better than he does. His couch is literally made of cardboard but it’s HIS cardboard.
Personally i love Alli. She was my 2nd home in HHA, her theme is “my mushroom forest” which is my exact aesthetic. When roommates were unlocked i paired her with my villager, Deirdre
well she can't have her own species to herself. it's easier to just say ostrich. julia looks like a peacock but she's an ostrich in game, phoebe looks like a phoenix but in game she's an ostrich. it's just easier to say ostrich instead of adding different type of species just so that villager can look like that.

I used to have Mac and Claude on my island as some of my OG villagers and I will admit they look kinda "meh" at first glance, but they grew on me and their appearances + personalities were really cute in combination with each other
I had Timbra early on, and wanted her off my island. Then she grew on me and I was sad to let her go (I switched to a penguin theme). Timbra is one of my favorite sheep: Timbra> Dom in my opinion
I absolutely looooove Cranky villagers. I at one time had two of them on my island. They're so cute! They're like the grumoy friend with a heart of gold.
While making my Squirrel Island, and setting out to have an equal number of male and female Squirrels (and in attempt to represent all 8 personalities), I had to invite Ricky as well as Marshal. And I must say, Ricky is really growing on me. His eyes are super expressive.

Wow, for a brand new player I guess I got super lucky, Midge and Audie were 2/3 of my first 3 houses (*the ones Tom Nook makes you make furniture for, not the campsite ones, which Lucha the red bird was my 1st and Bob the pink cat was my 2nd.) My nephew have teddy as a starter and I started to love him then one day I went to my sisters account to sell land since she is the only one that have the option let's talk about And I sold land then I went to my account to hunt for any villagers and i found teddy and invite him and the next day I have him . this Christmas I got my own switch and my own island I miss teddy :(
Sparrow was one of my two first-ever villagers on my island. At first, I thought he was awesome (mostly because at the start I wanted a cottage core island) But I kinda got a little annoyed at him because I was a little sick of his all this 'getting a six pack' talk and he didn't fit my new island theme so I got him off my island. he still is really cool though!

I have Bruce and I love him so much. He’s the first villager to ever compliment me on what I was wearing, and he’s always hanging out with Sheldon or Marshal. He wears the jacket I bought him all the time, and told me I know his sense of style better than he does. His couch is literally made of cardboard but it’s HIS cardboard.

well she can't have her own species to herself. it's easier to just say ostrich. julia looks like a peacock but she's an ostrich in game, phoebe looks like a phoenix but in game she's an ostrich. it's just easier to say ostrich instead of adding different type of species just so that villager can look like that.

Goldie was my first Pocket Camp villager, therefore she was my first villager in any AC game. I love Goldie, but she’s a bit too simple for me.
I love goldie too! But for me it always switches between her and biskit. I dont think that mac is as bad as people make him out to be! I think that he just isnt quite on parr with the rest of the doggos

Wow, for a brand new player I guess I got super lucky, Midge and Audie were 2/3 of my first 3 houses (*the ones Tom Nook makes you make furniture for, not the campsite ones, which Lucha the red bird was my 1st and Bob the pink cat was my 2nd.) I honestly like a lot of these least liked ones and the aesthetic a lot of the favorites share like Judy and Apple, I really don’t like at all, so there’s definitely still someone to love _almost_ all of these imo ✨ Sorry if my wording is bad

My nephew have teddy as a starter and I started to love him then one day I went to my sisters account to sell land since she is the only one that have the option let's talk about
And I sold land then I went to my account to hunt for any villagers and i found teddy and invite him and the next day I have him . this Christmas I got my own switch and my own island

Sparrow was one of my two first-ever villagers on my island. At first, I thought he was awesome (mostly because at the start I wanted a cottage core island) But I kinda got a little annoyed at him because I was a little sick of his all this 'getting a six pack' talk and he didn't fit my new island theme so I got him off my island. he still is really cool though!
