    MARYLANDER here! I live near the Potomac River. Cross a bridge and you are in West Virginia. West Virginia is a weird state! Native Americans NEVER lived in the land now called WV. They hunted there and buried their dead in that area. Point Pleasant , WV , home of the Moth man is also considered to be very haunted! Chief Cornstalk and his son were murdered by colonial people! As he lay dying ,Chief Cornstalk is said to have put a curse on that land! The Silver Bridge Disaster in the late 1960's killed many people when the bridge collapsed in December !

    The Paula Weldon disappearance inspired a novella called Hangsaman, by Shirley Jackson. It’s told from the perspective of a college student at a rural school who goes missing and then reappears with no memory of the time in between. I recommend it if you like strange and unsettling stories.

    My grandmother had a very good friend from bennington Vermont. I spent 1997 Christmas and new years there with her. Her friend had a home on a property with a church and cemetery. Most notably robert frost ,American poet is buried there. Only about 50 yards from her kitchen window. Her mother lived across street. She was 103 when I was there in 90s. It was a very interesting place. I also remember a stone tower on a mountain. Was very quiet and not much there. But seemed beautiful.

    Several very, *very* good stories there!
    I have to say, I'd have let the 'white lady'/phantom hitch-hiker girl in... The opportunity to encounter something that was both clearly ethereal and paranormal but also _reasoning_ and sentient. What she could have told us... Even if it was only how cold it felt to wait in the darkness and always be looking for souls to eat.

    Regarding the Veteran and his wife: I know small New England towns, and no way would this returning vet not know what happened to her. These types of towns are regular hornets nests of gossip, and most of the residents are more than happy to share any kind of news. Pronto.

    • @badwolf7367
      @badwolf7367 Год назад +1

      I was thinking the same. I was born and raised in a small town, it is rare thing for no one to know what goes on in someone else's life. And being the wife of a soldier gone off to war, the town would had made it a point to look in on her because she was alone. America during WW2 was very different in that Americans banded together like they had never before or since done looking out for each other.

    Helpful hints: Always tell ppl where you're going & when you're coming back. Always bring a day pack, even for a 30 min hike, including a compass (at the very least), fire, tree tape & notebook & pen. Mark your trail, especially if you split off or get turned around.

    The disappearance from the bus is just messed up, It’s just f’d up, it’s just just f’d up, creeps me out, ….. especially since two years before I even heard of the Bennington triangle I was hiking from North Adams Massachusetts North into Vermont; on a sunny fall day, I suddenly felt uneasy as I kept on heading north towards Glastonbury, it was like a sixth sense feeling somethings just wasn’t right, I decided to turn around early; halfway back to North Adams there was strange rustling in the woods a couple of times I still couldn’t get over the feeling that something was either watching me or following me, I made a wrong turn, which resulted in me heading back north, even as sunset was only less than two hours away, fortunately, I realize my mistake and found a way to head south and get back to my car right after Time darkness settled; prior to experience I had hundreds of miles of hiking and Appalachian trail and never had anything like this as far as feeling I was being watched; since then, I have decided to go hiking with other people and not solo
