      Jakob Mayr exactly. 10 months ago the best advice he was getting was "imagine you're sucking in all the energy from the room as you decend into the squat" like... Uhhhh okay?
      Now he's getting and giving advice that is specific, based on mechanical efficiency, and is literally increasing his numbers (an objective measure) and people freak out and call it dogma. Smh

    I've found smartly designed, linear block program will yield more consistent and repeatable results than TM. Intermediates hitting x5@9+ every week is a good way to make progress for 4-6 weeks before you fall off the recovery cliff and have to either change the ID rep range, reset VD weights, reset ID and VD, or all of the above and spend another 4-6 weeks working back up. At which point, a smartly designed program with deloads at appropriate intervals will lead to continued progress by managing fatigue and preventing the need to deload and back-track for 4-6 weeks.
    TL:DR: if you have to reset on TM, just move onto block based programming.

    • @richpauley6574
      @richpauley6574 6 лет назад +1

      Obviously you're not entirely educated on how the TM is supposed to be properly implemented. Over time you are supposed to lower the reps on your ID.

      Rich Pauley that’s worked well for me. When RPE hits 9+ on 5’s, I add 5 lbs the next week but drop to 4’s, then 3’s to eventually a 1RM

  • @derekgreen7319
    @derekgreen7319 6 лет назад +8

    I gotta disagree with Jordan about the Texas method. Some of the best progress I have ever made was with the Texas method. Of course it requires modification. Rip even says in his books that the intermediate will need the most variety he will ever require in his lifting career. If you run the stock program you will legit do like 18 sets a week. Other then the novice stage it's rare for a person to run a program verbatim.

    • @Alex-lu3pn
      @Alex-lu3pn 5 лет назад +5

      The funniest thing is Jordan himself wrote one of the most popular articles on the Texas Method: 12 Ways to skin the Texas Method.
      And he opens it by saying the Texas Method is a great template and he uses it himself.
      Seems like he had a complete change of opinion now.

    • @JackgarPrime
      @JackgarPrime 3 года назад +2

      @@Alex-lu3pn Well, to be fair, that article was written a couple years before this video, which is plenty of time for someone to learn and adjust their opinions on a problem. In fact, fundamental disagreements on programming between the BBM crew and Rip were what led to the split to begin with. I wager Jordan and Austin had learned things in those couple years that made them significantly re-evaluate TM and similar programs and decide they weren't that great. He's also said since then that almost none of the SS coaches were even using TM as written, and were commonly making significant modifications.

    This is really great. The only thing is that I wonder if some people are going to run away with the idea that testosterone levels don't matter. Like they said, the people who trained more had more valleys where testosterone was low temporarily, but in general, I'm pretty sure testosterone levels matter.

    • @tzqrr

    • @Un1t276
      @Un1t276 2 года назад

      @@VegetoStevieD let me word that a little differently. They do matter to a degree. The question was do antidepressants lower testosterone and if they do, would they affect my training? The answer is no, not really. Antidepressants have very little affect on testosterone levels.
      But this is my answer. The reference range exists for a reason. Most people will fall slightly below average or slightly above. With VERY few being at the bottom. If your testosterone levels are 150 ng/dl, that’s different. That’s a very bad case of hypogonadism. But if your levels are in the reference range, the way you feel and perform definitely won’t change that much, if any.

      Up until very recently I was running Stronglifts 5x5 which is a very close cousin of SS. Similar structure but replace cleans with 5x5 Barbell Rows (The variant where your torso is parallel to the ground, not Pendlay rows), and swap Deadlifts and Barbell Rows around (i.e Workout A is 5x5 Squat, 5x5 Bench, 5x5 Rows and Workout B is 5x5 Squat, 5x5 Overhead Press and 1x5 Deadlift). Would also recommend adding some assistance work and some arm isolation to avoid the dreaded T-Rex syndrome

You can use the Texas method and modify it you don’t have to fallow it completely I did 5x5 on bench and ran the Texas method for squat. You can’t always fallow what every one day else does
