  • The Oculus Rift CV1 has been out for awhile now, but has it lived up to the hype the development kits gave it? Does it satisfy our craving for VR, or does it leave us craving for more?

Really nice video man! Like your style a lot and looking forward to more. I saw your college laptop vid and I'm wondering if you're running a Hackintosh? And if so - why as a gamer?

I absolutely am. I much prefer macOS for just browsing the web casually and even using Adobe's creative products. Dunno if it's the aesthetic of the OS or if it actually seems to run better, but having an iPhone and a MacBook Pro as well makes the continuity between devices pretty seamless.
It's dualbooted with Windows 10 Anniversary on the same drive, though. Whenever I'm looking to play games I just restart and boot into that instead. In the college laptop video, I do in fact have CS:GO installed and open in the intro, but the actual gameplay of the kid screaming and me surfing was a shadowplay recording I added in post.

+DeV Fair enough. That's the beauty of building your own rig. I actually ran OSX for a bit when I first built my machine a while back to utilize Apple's better digital audio workstation capability for recording music but eventually just switched to solely Windows for ease in games and overall smoothness (had some issues optimizing OSX). Might give dualbooting a go though. Anyway, great videos so far, looking forward to new stuff.

If you have a bit of money in 2016, you can buy really good equipment for your videos, so these days almost anyone can be like this guy. They just need to know how to make videos like this guy which is hard (if you do tech reviews for your channel of course).

DeV, great introductory video man! If you keep that level of quality in your videos, this channel is going to go gangbusters. (I'm a bit jealous, not gonna lie. hehe!) If you know someone with a Vive, try it out, so you have a first hand comparison.
I don't see any convenient way to message you other than here, are you interested in a colab?

Nice vid, volume seemed a bit low to me but otherwise very smooth.
I gotta say the standing/room scale experience really takes VR to the next level, especially with Vive/touch when you have more interaction with the world. I CBF with seated stuff anymore, I keep thinking to myself "I want to try 'such and such' cockpit game" but then I get in and end up doing something standing because its that much more interesting.

It's great. Best part is that they didn't water it down for those that get motion sick. I love walking freely and you find yourself walking instead of running because it can turn your stomach after a while... and for God's sake, turn with your body, not the controller. Turning with the stick very often is a terrible idea for anyone.

Yo, i have NEVER saw such a nice guy, pleasing to watch, in such a good quality video in witch you can see the enormous amount of work that went into the making of it, on a "first video on youtube". I saw your other video as well, and still, impressed. I genuinely think that you deserve much more appreciation for your videos than a ton of big youtubers and that I'm gonna want to see every and each video of yours as long as you are gonna continue like this. I mean, I am that douche guy who very rarely likes a video, but even if he does, never gives feedback, and still felt the need to like, subscribe and show you my appreciation. Realy, realy good job mate, and trust me, you have to do more cuz i know that there are many more people like me that are genuinely impressed with you. "Take care!"

With the info I had gained in your videos I already would love to meet you. I mean, Undertale music playing in your outro! No, you really can't compare the Rift to the Vive.
I wanted to do a little school project with the Rift so I asked my school if it was ok to take it with me. (Yeah, I know, it was more a reason for grabbing it home and play games with it...). It was fun.
I was tempted to buy one. But after hearing about the Vive, I preferred investing my money with Valve. (mainly because they have a *lot* of experience and I love their final touch)
So what are the differences then?
Even if the Rift seems to have a slightly better screen than the Vive, the Rift experience is worse. Why is that? It seems contradictory. Actually, it's simple: with the Vive, you move around, you crouch, you grab items, you look at them you do things with them. There's a real sense of interaction and when you get closer to something, the details are actually there so you really don't forget about the slightly worse screen. With the rift the interaction is very limited by the xbox controller, you can't really do much things with the environment, you can't grab items naturally and inspect them or whatever. There's a taste of room-scale because you still can use it while standing up but you're usually required to face a particular direction (which is where the sensor that looks like a big mic is) and hence you don't have free liberty of movement.
Alternatively I tend to be really nauseous with the Rift while it's fine with the Vive, especially with games that makes the camera move without any context. (lucky's tale really make me sick as fuck whereas elite dangerous is fine since there's a ship around me)
Sooooo yeah, they're not really comparable. To me, the rift was awesome for having a seated experience, but the stand-up part was flaky because of the interaction problem. It's more cinematic. The Vive still have an ok seated experience but the main selling point is truly using it room scaled. It is absolutely mind-blowing! Simply being able to grab a bow and starting shooting at things is so much better than a controller or a keyboard...
After all it always come down to taste.

Great positive review. Liked and Subbed. And it makes a great intro video if youre trying to get hyped for it. My fear, which i guess wasn't stressed enough, is lasting appeal. You're probably right tho in which its the future and will likely get more use but what if theres a better device down the line? And doesn't come with the premium early adopter tag? I mean ive tried the PsVR and eve at bestbuy and it blew me away. But i need a game worth $650 (w/tax) because until the wand controllers release Vive just seems the more complete experience. (Ugh $800+...)

  • @romanolecoursier

Hey man! First off, great video! Awesome quality really.
Now second thing, you chose the oculus instead of the HTC because you wanted to stay seated; but you fell in love with the whole standing experience. So now that you feel like standing is awesome, would you still buy the oculus instead of the HTC vive? If so, why? (or why not)
Again great video man! Keep it up!

  • @themax2go
    @themax2go 8 лет назад

    Decent first vid, but:
    1. Boost the volume of the rest of the vid.
    2. You should mention the HTC Vive a bit earlier on - what you said at the end of the vid you should move forward to the front of the vid.
    3. Then upload new version.
    4. Create a short but cool / fun / memorable short intro. Doesn't have to be some sophisticated animation and jingle or such - just a "Hey, welcome back to my channel!" and such.
Other than that, I think the video in general is on a higher level of quality compared to other ones. Just do more research first and if you talk in absolutes, make disclaimers first, such as that this is specifically for the Rift and without consideration of the Vive or any other VR device.
I also recommend that you do some let's plays, especially co-op games, and find some fun people to play with. I don't know how successful you want your channel to be, but you have to upload more vids and do so in regular(!) intervals, ideally at least one per day. For co-op games I recommend 7 Days to Die, although right now most servers are quite dead ATM, the new version should be out in a week to three weeks and things will pick up then. It can be a huge amount of fun, with the right people, at least it's not just running or flying around just shooting at stuff (you can and most likely will still do a lot of shooting) but it has a much more personal experience.

    Cons:
-Your first video so you woudn't have that much recognition
    Pros:
    -Great voice
    -High production/professional video
-Stating your equipment for the tech geeks (wish that you would state your PC parts in that section though)

One thing, I'm looking for the song of the outro, it's not listed in the music credits if I'm not mistaking... So could you please tell me what song is that?

I like to use the extra remote as an emergency escape button. It has a wriststrap, so even if I get a little lost in VR or drop my XboxOne controller, I can at least grab at the thing strapped to my wrist and hit the "back" or "home" button and navigate menus just fine until I get my bearings again.

Just started watching when I saw your "don't buy gaming laptop video" I liked it a lot, it caused a conversation with my father; since I should be going to college next year. I absolutely love your editing and am trying to completely start up with the hobby of editing. I have made a few videos in the past, though I never published any of them. Nothing that great and all different genres. For a while I have been telling myself to finally just do something. Well i'd love to take tips from you anytime. I really really enjoy how you edit and your setup, I mean, the transition to the beginning to you introducing yourself. That was perfect. I would love to find out some of the rules to all of this. I really hope you comment back on this and we can start a conversation. Thank you.

What have you been doing lately? you've put together some of the best
tech video's Ive seen. I could easily see you out performing Linux Tech
Tips in the long run, in your own style of course, I don't see you doing
Ridiculous Computer builds and review for sponsors, but your living
room will be amazing. Vary well spoken and great voice for this. Cat is a
bonus but really your presentation hits the eyes and ears well. Please
    do more of this.

Terrific review, completely mirrors my own experience as I just picked up the Rift a week ago. Well done.
