FINALLY! Someone who is disavowing “dress cute feel good”. I feel like this makes me feel worse every time because I end up trying on sooo many different pieces because nothing “feels right” which then heightens my insecurities and leaves me with a pile of clothes to put away. If I wanna rot in a sweatsuit then I’m gonna rot in that, not something uncomfortable to try and trick my mind cause society says so.
Gonna completely agree here! Sometimes if I go out for the day but I'm not feeling how I look, I'll dress down and be a bit more comfy, yet I sill feel fashionable if the items look unique!
Lipstick with other make up. Lipstick without make up. Lipstick is such a holy grail. Even if you're just in a tank top, jeans and flip flops with your hair undone lipstick can always elevate the look. I am 10000% a red/black lipstick warrior
I personally really dislike lipstick on myself and have never liked how it feels and looks on me but I do absolutely love some crazy eyeshadow color, it makes me feel super happy lol
@@Angel.aaa109 it's not really a thing here either, but I'm sucker for blue eyeshadow, and it's a staple for me now! My grandma has been a great influence on me and made me adore vintage 60s/70s makeup and fashion, so I think that's why I love it so much haha!
I absolutely LOVE the fact that you put diversity in your exemples, it feels more universal and not just white girlies. It's actually the first time in my life that I see fashion advice including dreadlocks and black skin and diverse curly hair, it's so refreshing. Thank you SO MUCH for that
This is actually the best fashion advice I have ever received like dressing ugly when you feel it is so much better than dressing up and feeling uncomfortable
yes! and most of the time you end up looking super cool and stylish because it goes with your vibe and mood and there's intension and thought put into it
love this! This video caught my eye because I saw my face on the thumbnail LOL. You dropped some useful tips that I will definitely be using in the future :)
this really made me realize things about myself and my bad fashion habits lol.. especially the one about buying something at a thrift store bc you have a vision, but you don't have all the pieces - so you just end up with a piece you never rly use, which is sad. I have realized that i should only buy something that looks good on it's own, which also makes it much more sustainable
haven’t watched it yet but the thumbnail is so cute and the diversity of black girls was so eye catching! most thumbnails i see are usually slim white-asian girls so it was great to see something different:)
I love the way you brought us back to the basics like tidiness, noticing our emotional and physical state and choosing the outfit according to the situation. We tend to get a bit lost sometimes and it's refreshing to be grounded in a sensible and pleasant way like that. Thanks ❤
Your point about hair is 100% true and under-discussed. Times when I think my hair looks great elevates whatever I'm wearing. It's one of the key elements to making "basics" and minimalist fashion work IMO
Your comment about your hairstyle!!! For MONTHS I felt like my outfits were off & kept saying “oh I just need to chop my hair” as SOON as I got a wolf cut I felt like my style was elevated
This is my favorite style advice video I've come across yet! I also 100% stand by the "realistic" Pinterest suggestions. I have a board for fashion and art that is beyond what I wear, and then I have one called "my actual style". I first started by pinning a bunch of things that look as close to the real outfits I already wear as I could possibly find (no matter how boring), so that way the algorithm would show me not only posts that are similar, but also posts take those outfit formulas in slightly different directions. This has been an amazing tool for growing and developing my style organically and realistically.
i like that ur advice is centered around what makes you comfortable and what’s practical. i feel like i see a lot of the opposite, or implications that dressing that way is boring and not fashionable. fashion is how I WANT TO DRESS
These are very insightful tips, and I have to admit I'm guilty of having a messy wardrobe as well as thinking of styling pieces with stuff I don't own yet. I noticed that when I take pics to sell the clothes I don't like anymore and style them nicely I suddenly start liking them again - because sometimes I feel so against picking up a certain piece that I haven't worn in a long time.
I looooove leaning in to “feeling ugly” I actually come up with some really cute comfy outfits I feel like myself in that I wouldn’t have put together otherwise, hair scarves for dirty hair, cardigans over a tank and lounge pants and flip flops, love it.
The choice of "okay" pieces is really the worst. Just because they are cheaper than your first choice for instance, you get them regardless of your lack of love for them. But this will just result in the piece just hanging around in your closet unused
the 'items and styles you find beautiful aren't necessarily what you want to wear' is so real, for example I love short skirts and revealing outfits on other people but I have had to realise as much as I love some pieces I don't actually feel comfortable wearing them myself, and it's not an issue of lacking confidence that I simply need to work on to feel better in them, it's just simply not my thing as much as I adore it on other people. I personally enjoy such a wide variety of styles and for the longest time would buy a variety of pieces I find lovely, but my closet didn't really represent ME and it was too all over the place to have well matching outfits and a proper style. Also I love the point about not trying to force yourself into a stand out outfit on days you don't feel good in your skin, dressing more comfortably actually will improve your mood, rather than like you said, an outfit that just makes you feel like you're forcing it and want to get back home to take it off.
These are the tips I’ve been looking for! I feel like I watch alllll the fashion/personal style tips out there, take notes, & I still tend to dislike my outfits. This was so helpful
Wow, thank you for bringing up some thought-provoking tips… I definitely find I am the “has a few loved items but can’t fit them in their current wardrobe”… my journey in discovering my style has been slow and I have dreadful anxiety around spending money, so when I purchase something I love I usually invest into it… but then find I do not wear it often with the pieces I already have In my wardrobe that don’t “fit” with my idealized style … thank you for putting words to this feeling!
I resonate with the last point so much! Would love if you made a video specifically on that. Everyday dressing is maybe not as exciting as outfits most content creators are putting out but it’s literally the most practical for most people!!
HEAVY on the importance of having hair that works with your style. my entire wardrobe opened up to me more when i got a heavily layered cut with micro bangs.
I enjoyed this video so much, ive been trying to curate my style but have trouble going about it. I often tell myself im not a "cool girl" and that could never be me, but after watching this video i realised there are a lot of factors that can influence your style and your perspective on fashion and dressing well so this served as a good starting point. THANK YOU. also sidenote my attention span has been fried because of tiktok and I havent been watching long form content, but I was able to make it through the entrie video without scrolling through the comments or keeping myself busy which is very telling about you and how you engage your audience. That being said I really enjoyed the video very entertaning.
I’m currently growing out my french bob and now that my hair is a bit longer, it doesn’t not slay in outfits as much. Like a backless dress with a short bob, is SO GOOD. 10/10 recommend getting a french bob!!
I really like several points you made! I know I'm short waisted so I'll often think "oh that's a long waisted person, it will never look like that on me"-- And don't know why I never considered figuring out to wear something to hit me in the same place. So obvious now! I also thought your point about dress how you feel was good-- and I think it actually in someways works the same as "dress good, feel good"-- it requires some thought and effort being put into what you wear, rather than reaching for yesterday's sweatpants-- and it's often that intentionality that lifts the mood, and your way avoids any cognitive dissonance which is uncomfortable Keep up the thoughtful content!❤
i also think that sometimes what you want in your inspo pic is the way the outfit looks on the body of the person in the picture, not necessarily the shapes and textures and colors of the outfit. sometimes i love the way an outfit looks and when i recreate it i end up hating it, and i realize that it's because the person wearing it is very tall and thin, but i am short and curvy- so i need to reassess if i like about the outfit, not just the way it looks on a certain type of person
12:20 heavy agree to this. I love consuming fashion content from Asian girls but as a Brazilian tall and curvy girl, I have to be very intentional about it.
This is such a helpful video! Being realistic is so difficult in a space which, for many of us, is the only part of our day where we can fantasise and be creative. I really love that you mentioned leaning into more 'slouchy' 'relaxed' outfits when you're feeling a little ugly, shy, insecure etc. Because it highlights this whole mantra that when getting dressed, this should be used as an opportunity to check in with ourselves, allowing inner thoughts and feelings to permeate, rather than be ignored and met with frustration later. I have always had a conflict with clothes, being madly inspired and excited whilst on the other-hand sometimes feeling exhausted and disheartened. Perhaps it is about letting clothes and fashion become a more flexible and kinder place for feelings, instead of something rigid and straightforward made from often unrealistic visions. Hope that made sense lol :)
These tips are EXCELLENT!!! Funny coincidence cuz I keep telling my sister “maybe it’s not a laco of clothes but a lack of organizing and proper storage” 😂Thanks for putting this together!
I found your tips super clever and a great way to think about our closet more realistically! 🌻 I just don't resonate with the lipstick one, not everyone feels good with lipstick on (due to mouth size or lips thickness compared to the rest of one's features)
The haircut one is so true! I have a really cute short French, Taylor Russel type bob right now and then I put extensions in my hair for braids and now I miss my bob so bad and my fits do too!
The thrift tip hit me hard oh god. I love my thrifting but I hit a Plato where most of the clothes just don’t feel right in me. I’m considering to start sewing to adjust them, but maybe I should first buy staples pieces that just fit me right first instead
noooo get into sewing if youre able to!! its so cool to wear your clothes and know its altered specifically for you!! plus way more options if you can wear dif sizes
Obsessed with two of your tips: 1) dress ugly when you feel ugly is a VIBE. 2) The create inspiration for what you’ll realistically wear is so true. I work from home and have no need to stunt the way I used to at school or the office. I am in my pjs and maybe it is time for me to get a y2k velvet sweatsuit instead of so many slacks and jeans
I've been loving ironing my clothes recently- my ironing skills are pretty shocking like it comes out looking the same as it did pre-iron lol, but i always feel better putting them on
