  • Episode 598. The 2023 Càirdeas has a portion finished in second-fill Maderia and first-fill Port, mostly white Port. Having just sipped the 2024 10 year Cask Favourite is is very different. Bright almost sharp fruit, more white wine and an interesting tropical spice I can't put my finger on. Have you had it? #laphroaig #scotch #whiskyneighbour

    James needs to come around more often. 😛 But seriously, the two Laphroaig videos have been very interesting, and big thanks to James for allowing you the opportunity to bring them to the channel! Cheers to you both!

      @@WhiskyNeighbour No, I have not. We've got a store in Houston that always keeps some Cairdeas releases on hand, but I've yet to grab one (FWIW, that same store has Alberta Premium CS Ryes that I need to try at some point). More info than you needed, but now you know. 😂😂

    I have to admit Jon, I’m watching with envy. That’s got to be my no.1 laphroaig to try, white port + Madeira… wow! Thanks for reviewing this

      This is the first Ardbeg Day I have missed in 6 years. I'm not sure what is happening. I always treat myself to a new release. Rarely the expensive Committee one, but at least something fun! Glad you enjoyed that one and I love Port right now, so maybe I need to try!

    Every Laphroaig is amazing to me. I drink it in the Fall and Winter more. Having Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel tonight.

    Terrific comparison Jon. I thoroughly enjoyed the 2023 and 2024 Cardeas expressions but I probably enjoyed the 2023 more. Both are fabulous Islay scotch whiskies! I’m so glad you gave the chance to try them! I found the 2023 less sweet actually and I prefer that on my palette.

      Very, very interesting. I will have another dram maybe later today or at least next weekend. I found the 2023 white wine like. Dry, sweet, high fruit. While the 2024 is speaking my language with brooding dark fruit and smoldering peat. Both good, but very different.

    • @christinecamley
      @christinecamley Месяц назад

      @@WhiskyNeighbour Yes so different. I go back and forth in which one I prefer. I always prefer smoldering peat to sweet. I get a different experience whenever I have a dram of these two beauties!

    Oh my those are excellent bottles Jon. Coincidently, I was having Laphroaig 10 CS batch 13 last night and I absolutely love how much it has opened up over the last few months. I have the 2023 Cairdeas waiting to be opened and keeping an eye out for the 2024 release which sounds like something my palate would agree with. Laphroaig journey started for me with the QC and I would still grab that bottle once in a while.

    So, as you may have suspected, last night went for that ol' Laphroaig QC.
    Still tastes of furniture polish, acetone, and fireplace ash.
    But...in a 'good' way!
    Benriach-The 12 in the glass tonight. Definitely more civilized than it's rowdy, unwashed, barbarian cousin! 😂
    Have yourself a smooth week...🥃🥃

    Fan as well of Port cask finishes, though I've not had any with white. Sounds intriguing.

    Man I must have something weird with my palate with that white port because I thought there was something wrong with it. The flavours all seemed off to me for some reason. The 2024 one sounds amazing and I'm not surprised you liked it as well. Cheers Jon!

    Hello Jon! I agree with your review 200%. If someone likes some direct punch-in-yo face kinda Islay Scotch with sweeter palate they will prefer the 2023 White port Madiera Laphroaig better. I wasn’t a big fan of finish of 2023 Cairdeas which was quite dry for me(it got better few month after.) 2024 Cairdeas is great. Thank you always for the great whisky reviews! Slàinte Mhath 🥃
