Whisky.com reviews the Laphroaig Select. Laphroaig Select contains proportions of all well-known Laphroaig bottlings (10 years, PX Cask, Quarter Cask and Triple Wood). The combination of the different casks and bottlings creates a harmonious balance between peat smoke, vanilla, honey and slightly earthy aromas.
Ian Hunter, the last of the founding family, visited Kentucky bourbon distilleries around 70 years ago to learn their aging techniques. Up until this point, all casks had come from Europe, resulting in a significantly sweeter Laphroaig. Hunter had a selection of ex-Bourbon casks shipped to Scotland to test the casks on his whisky. This is the beginning of Laphroaig as we know it.

Whenever I buy a bottle of whiskey I come to your corresponding video and smell/taste with you. I honestly appreciate the experience more because you put my enjoyment into words. Keep up the great work.

    Thank you for the review.
I really enjoy this dram. Besides from sipping it is also good for cooking. Think ribs on the grill, or pulled pork. Excelent!

You can't compare any of the Laphroaig's They are all different mixtures. For me the Select hits all the right notes.

Agreed 95%! Have you had the “Triple Wood?” I think it’s what makes “Select” a goodun.

Not yet. It's on my list though. Usually below Pussers Gunpowder proof rum, and my budget drinkers Evan Williams, and Mellow Corn. I think I am incapable of passing up that rum. It isn't even a conscious thought. The world goes black and I suddenly end up in my car with the bottle. There is nothing I can do about it. @@revolvermaster4939

Great video guys, a bit longer videos like these are best in my opinion. With a story of the whisky or the distillery.

I like select, I can taste the “Triple Wood” in it. Off subject, but I had 3 Laphroaigs almost empty (Lore, 10 batch 13 & 15) that I blended with a 1/2 bottle of Select, OMFG it’s good!

Great review! Thank you. As this was my first time trying Select, I was a little thrown off by the relatively lower ABV for a Laphroaig (40% versus 58.6% for the cask strength), but given the relatively lower ABV there is still a lot of flavor in the Select at a good price. Cheers!

Had a bottle of this when it come out about a decade ago. One was more than enough. Your review is very generous unless they changed things up.

I agree, I had one when they came out, and when a new line launches, the first batch is always the best, and it was a watered down experience from the 10, never had one since

It is by far the worst Laphroaig.

First time having Laphroaig. I was looking for the 10 but they only had this in stock. It's not bad, but I won't be buying it again. It seems like they're trying to go for something like Ardbeg 10, but falling short. I'd like to try this at a cask strength though.

Select is the only Laphroaig I've never bought again. It's rough, young, and immature.

Thanks for telling me that this is extreme Smokey. Now I can buy other scotches knowing that I won’t hate them so much…. I usually like bushmills 10yr single malt.

I prefer the 10 year far more than select . It has a loss of the malty depth I taste in 10

Worst Laproaig ever bottled, only beaten by Bowmore Legend on how bad it is (ended up used for making BBQ sauce). The 10 or the Quarter Cask are far superior.
