Pneumatic I don't. But some door dampers on richelieu or lee valley tools to slow the lid closing. There's interior door openers but if it's outside this would likely compromise the actuator.
That's up to you, I would pocket hole something I was doing for a more detailed finish but easier assembly and time I did this method. It's still holding together perfectly and we have transitioned it into a toy bin for outside toys. Which is harder on the frame than if it was garbage.
what do you do to make sure both front doors close and align evenly? My 2 front doors close fine and latch but one door is more out-front than the other door
I'd like to build this to store our trash cans outside but our HOA requires dimensions before they'll approve placement. Can you tell me the LxWxH dimensions of your completed project? Thanks!
It's been 4.5 years lol and the kids put all their outdoor toys in it. It's still solid and works great. Had 1 wasp nest in all the years. Great functionality
As I'm new to trying some of these types of things.. are there instructions anywhere? The video was so helpful... but having steps I can look at often help. I can write things down if nothing out there, but wondered if there were already. Thanks and great video!
Sorry this is a custom build. Not sure if listening to my audio and typing it out would help. But the best part I find with videos is you can pause and play back. The intro does give an exact material list.
@@HandcraftedbyChrisPalmer Do you do multiple little cuts with the circular saw or just two then cut that out with the jigsaw? Not sure if that makes sense lol!
I have seen a few of these on RUclips, Yours by far is the best.
Thanks so much!
Nice work and during the major part of the pandemic too
Great video! I'm working on one this weekend.
Nice Marquis! Out east now eh?
@@HandcraftedbyChrisPalmer Yes sir! I'm taking quite a liking to off-the-grid living!
@@MarquisMurray so are we!
Excellent step by step.
Thanks!!
Just what I needed. Thanks for posting.
Glad to help!
I'm sorry for all the questions, if I want a pneumatic lift to keep the lid open and not slam shut, do you have a recommendation? Thanks so much!

@@HandcraftedbyChrisPalmer thank you. Sorry for all the questions!
@@mfrumento no worries 😁
Would it be better to use pocket hole screw as opposed to screwing into the end grain when building the frame?

Do you have a material list for this project that you could provide. 😊
Did you watch the video? 17 seconds in I have a written list 😉

That is either the lumber twisting or the frame being out of square. I use the slide bolts on the doors to help hold them true.
If I missed it I apologize ahead, but if you weren't recording, roughly what kind of time frame do you think this would take to build?
Oh I'd say 2hrs

Sure can, 49 w x 26d x 42h
@@HandcraftedbyChrisPalmer Appreciate the speedy reply. Thank you!
How much lower is the front than the back? What is the pitch of the lid? I’ve never built anything like this before but ready to try it.
The lid has a 2" slope, but you can always adjust this based on your own garbage cans. We actually use this to store kids toys now outside!
@@HandcraftedbyChrisPalmer It has a 2" slope so would you say it is about 5 degrees?
@@johncooper6246 all depending on lid size really.
@@HandcraftedbyChrisPalmer I was thinking that. I want it to mimic the 2-12 slope of the building.
@@johncooper6246 I believe its 2" or maybe 1.5" based on material thickness for slope
So, it has been a couple years. How is it holding up? What about wasps and other nasty pests?

What kind of drill bit is that?
Size you mean?
The impact driver I used a 6" milwaukee #2 Robertson and to drill the hole for the slide bolt it was 3/8" standard drill bit.
is there any way that i can have you to send me the measurements for the frame please?
The frame is built based on your own garbage cans. So take those measurements and add 12" to the overall for framing and clearance.
I’m using the same trash cans as you are
If you watch the video at 42 seconds you will hear me say what size the platform is " 4 foot by 2 foot"
Ok I guess I didn’t hear that sorry
@angelashepherd6961 all good, just trust your tape measure and make it whatever size you want!
Do you have a materials used list?
If you watch the video it's all there in the beginning. 😉
How heavy is the lid?
Not much, maybe 10lbs

How did you cut the notch for the frame?
Circular saw and jig saw is usually my method. Otherwise you can do dado blades on the tablesaw
@@HandcraftedbyChrisPalmer Do you do multiple little cuts with the circular saw or just two then cut that out with the jigsaw? Not sure if that makes sense lol!
@@mfrumento It's easier to do it all with jigsaw and speed square. This is only for 2x and 1x lumber. 4x lumber I do multiple passes w circ saw. 👍
@@HandcraftedbyChrisPalmer Thanks!
Where did you use the 3-5 /4x6x8’s ?
They were used on the bottom deck 👍
@@HandcraftedbyChrisPalmer Where? I don't see any 4x material in the video? Thanks.

Where did you get the hardware?
This is from Rona or Home Depot black gate hinge and slide bolts. 👍
