Mephiles's boss fight effectively confirmed that he IS "alive". He's simply stuck in the void, unable to leave and interact with the timeline; fully aware of his predicament. Which asks a VERY interesting question: If Robotnik(Classic) and Eggman(Modern) managed to find their way out of the void, what's stopping Mephiles? Or is he alredy out and we just don't know it yet?
I don’t think anyone expected Mephiles to come back! A tiny part of me hope they make him a main villain again. Especially if they keep getting Akechi to voice him!
The Eggmen probably used whatever was left of the Time Eater and whatever tech they had on them to open portals to their respective homes. Mepehilis probably isn't able to freely open portals out of this realm and isn't smart enough to make tech based portals, and even if he was there's basically no materials for him to work with.
I think he’s already out and about but he snuck is way out so as to not arouse any suspicion now that Shadow knows who he is, and I doubt that Shadow would leave out encountering someone like Mephiles
Fr, we don't get a lot on shadow and Gerald's dynamic as much as we do for him and Maria. I wish we did, I would have loved to see what shadow thinks of Gerald. We get crumbs that he likes him too, however not as much as he does Maria.
Sonic Team is so lucky that the Shadow fight in Generations rewarded you with the yellow emerald 😂 they wouldn’t have been able to pull this off otherwise.
LOL. hate to be that guy, but Shadow from Generations has grown stronger from Heroes, so that's why he's able 1v1 Metal Overlord. Just like how Generations Sonic can 1v1 Perfect Chaos whereas in Adventure he needed to go Super.

I'm just excited they finally figured out how to animate the eyes to properly show expressions. This entire time ever since Unleashed (outside of pre-animated cutscenes like the Unleashed intro), it's really weird how every time Sonic tries to show any kind of sadness or anger they keep animating the eyelids to close halfway instead of moving his brows. They've been doing it right in the 2D artworks like the ones found in the Adventure series and the Sonic Advance Trilogy so I have no idea why they never considered animating his brows. Thankfully they finally did it here.
I know! Finally, somebody else who is interested in this sort of stuff I love the animations with the eyes as an animator myself comparing this to the rest of the sonic franchise, this is impeccable

Bro, Shadow giving Sonic a Fake Emerald shows Shadow is smart enough to actually even trick Sonic like others, and not just be one upped by him all the time. Sonic won because Shadow hesitated, but Shadow kept the Real Emerald A truly "You won the battle but I won the War" type situation.
Shadow didn’t really hesitate so much as just flat out refused to use his Doom powers. Fair enough too, considering he doesn’t have the Doom powers during Forces(after Generations). The Doom powers weren’t truely his, so much as Black Doom giving him a temporary buff. He just prepared a *contingency* for the case he lost, because Batman isn’t the only one who can use that word. It’s a good way to keep Sonic’s victory from being hollow. He DID win a legitimate battle on equal terms, Shadow did not throw the fight.
I absolutely love how Shadow refused to fight Devil Doom with destructive anger. He stayed composed for that entire final fight, now that he's truly at peace with Maria and Gerald.
Love the story, its not a revamp of Shadow the Hedgehog. Its more Shadow found a side plot to piggyback off the Time Eater plot. Then gets a reward on the side. He gets closure with Maria and Gerald. Rather then basic Grieving where it ends in you must accept they are dead and theres nothing you can do. Shadow gets his full final goodbye, so that instead of being a scar, theres no wounds left.
20:06 I like how its now cannon Shadow let Sonic win that fight because he didn't want to let his anger cause him to lose control and kill Sonic. Also I like how he says the cocky lines when he meets Sonic, but in reality he's just excited to have a little scrap again.
I want to mention how Shadow held back on Sonic thanks to compassion he’s learned to have after all the events from SA2. With enemies during combat, he’s ruthless. In previous fights with Sonic, he was brutal. But now, when wielding a power foreign to him that is more than what he imagined his capabilities before, he chose to spare Sonic in concern to what his newfound blood claim might to him. This. This right here is the Shadow I’ve missed. Not because he’s soft, but because despite his toughness, he still is a critical thinker that cares. WE ARE SO BACK.
This was really nice. the game "Shadow the Hedgehog" you could say closed the book on his question on the reason for his being. This game allowed him, Maria, and Gerald to meet one last time to effectively gain closure
It is! I was there and I remember the how it sounded, however its been tempered very slightly, but the base of the song is the symphony remix, I've been waiting for the symphony remix to be posted on RUclips as a track of itself (not just a recording of the concert)
It was interesting how he was still losing rings during the Neo phase, as though he was in Super form. There could be a lore reason behind it, as Shadow already resembles a black-coated Super Sonic. Either that or there really isn't one, they meant to have a Super Shadow finale, but realized it wouldn't make sense because Sonic already has all (but one) of the Chaos Emeralds. Good thing the Doom Wings made for a good comp out. 😅

My opinion from this: 1. Maria, can you stop being cute and adorable... FOR 5 MINUTES- 2. Shadow's line after defeating Mephiles is so cool. 3. Rouge's theme when she's on screen? God, what an amazing detail. 4. I wasn't expecting this happened at the same time of Sonic Generations, i thought this happened before Shadow's boss fight in the original game. 5. I'm glad that Sega finally seems to be letting Shadow not just be edgy the hedgy anymore. Like, sure he can have some aspects like a bit of arrogance, cold demeanor, and being overly serious. But deep down, he's a good person who genuinely cares for the world and respects Sonic and his friends (and he doesn't just doing it for Maria, he actually has genuine care in saving the world.)

As much as I'd love that as a huge Silver fan, it's highly unlikely tbh, but not impossible. Only reason we got Shadow Generations is because of Shadow's immense popularity within and outside the Sonic community. Hence why we have year of the Shadow
You also don't have enough mainline games that star Silver as one of the protagonists. Like, what else outside of 06 would there be to work with? There's more room for even Blaze than for Silver in this sense. They would have to do a complete original game for him and yet, it's really unlikely given his popularity not being as big as shadow

If Gerald were to find out during this time that his Grandson was a mad scientist, he would be literally disappointed with the fact his science is being used to beat up one blue rodent.
If you lock in plot SA2 Gerald made Shadow to avenge Maria's dead (Sonic was in that capsule and Shadow his edgy copy that was made in prison), but it was retconed when shadow became popular (they planned him only for one game). So Gerald is also not a very good person

I love the Sonic & Shadow cutscene because the beginning is litterally the beginning of their first fight in Sonic Adventures 2 & Sonic Heroes in the jungles levels. Plus, we know now that the next above levels isn't decorations, but litterally exist.

25:43 is unironically one of the hardest animation sequences in a Sonic game. Chaos Control, kick Mephiles in the face, fling Chaos Spears at all of his clones while switching orientations every time, AND get the jump on him by the time CC wears off? Actually insane. And in less than 10 seconds.

The production value in these cutscenes is insane. And so welcome. I feel crazy because I don’t see anyone else talking about this, especially the eyes. It’s amazing to see the eyes actually change and be expressive, and not sonic’s eyelids trying to carry all the emotion. God I hope SEGA lets sonic team make a full length game with this kind of budget
I think the cutscene where shadow bumps into sonic and it has the set pieces from the 2011 game is sick AF, only I just dont like how they are giving modern sonic the slighting PUDGEY, or like stockier, shorter spines wtf, they were just fine. In sonic 06 they were kinda long. Now in this game/ frontiers they are to stubby. And yet shadow's spines are unchanged.
While it’d be too Op to let Shadow keep his Doom powers since Doom Wings was his base form equivalent to Super, it’d be really cool if Shadow either has rare moments or tapping into said powers or something newer that’s more adapted to him than the Black Arms

Love the story, its not a revamp of Shadow the Hedgehog. Its more Shadow found a side plot to piggyback off the Time Eater plot. Then gets a reward on the side. He gets closure with Maria and Gerald. Rather then basic Grieving where it ends in you must accept they are dead and theres nothing you can do. Shadow gets his full final goodbye, so that instead of being a scar, theres no wounds left.
They finally learned how to make good looking non cgi cutscenes.
Unleashed had nice cutscenes, ESPECIALLY the Hidden/Special cutscenes (Chunan, Adabat, and Holoska)
They’ve had those since Unleashed. Try to keep up.

Also I like how he says the cocky lines when he meets Sonic, but in reality he's just excited to have a little scrap again.
I want to mention how Shadow held back on Sonic thanks to compassion he’s learned to have after all the events from SA2. With enemies during combat, he’s ruthless. In previous fights with Sonic, he was brutal. But now, when wielding a power foreign to him that is more than what he imagined his capabilities before, he chose to spare Sonic in concern to what his newfound blood claim might to him. This. This right here is the Shadow I’ve missed. Not because he’s soft, but because despite his toughness, he still is a critical thinker that cares. WE ARE SO BACK.

It was interesting how he was still losing rings during the Neo phase, as though he was in Super form. There could be a lore reason behind it, as Shadow already resembles a black-coated Super Sonic. Either that or there really isn't one, they meant to have a Super Shadow finale, but realized it wouldn't make sense because Sonic already has all (but one) of the Chaos Emeralds. Good thing the Doom Wings made for a good comp out. 😅

It was to be expected, since this takes place concurrently to Sonic's campaign, where he collects all the emeralds (including one from Shadow).
They should have just given him an animation for taking his inhibitor rings off or something if he coulsnt go super
My opinion from this:
1. Maria, can you stop being cute and adorable... FOR 5 MINUTES-
2. Shadow's line after defeating Mephiles is so cool.
3. Rouge's theme when she's on screen? God, what an amazing detail.
4. I wasn't expecting this happened at the same time of Sonic Generations, i thought this happened before Shadow's boss fight in the original game.

4. the Shadow vs Sonic cutscene is supposed to be a link to that Rival Battle in Sonic's story

I'm glad that Sega finally seems to be letting Shadow not just be edgy the hedgy anymore. Like, sure he can have some aspects like a bit of arrogance, cold demeanor, and being overly serious. But deep down, he's a good person who genuinely cares for the world and respects Sonic and his friends (and he doesn't just doing it for Maria, he actually has genuine care in saving the world.)

As much as I'd love that as a huge Silver fan, it's highly unlikely tbh, but not impossible.
Only reason we got Shadow Generations is because of Shadow's immense popularity within and outside the Sonic community. Hence why we have year of the Shadow
You also don't have enough mainline games that star Silver as one of the protagonists. Like, what else outside of 06 would there be to work with? There's more room for even Blaze than for Silver in this sense. They would have to do a complete original game for him and yet, it's really unlikely given his popularity not being as big as shadow

And Sonic rivals is kind of an unlikely pick cause it wasn't a mainline game (and I don't feel like the stages on that game are distinctive enough on their own)

Not to be nerdy, but Ivo (Eggman) is Gerald’s grandson, just like Maria. Ivo and her are cousins.
If you lock in plot SA2 Gerald made Shadow to avenge Maria's dead (Sonic was in that capsule and Shadow his edgy copy that was made in prison), but it was retconed when shadow became popular (they planned him only for one game). So Gerald is also not a very good person

The production value in these cutscenes is insane. And so welcome. I feel crazy because I don’t see anyone else talking about this, especially the eyes. It’s amazing to see the eyes actually change and be expressive, and not sonic’s eyelids trying to carry all the emotion. God I hope SEGA lets sonic team make a full length game with this kind of budget

I think the cutscene where shadow bumps into sonic and it has the set pieces from the 2011 game is sick AF, only I just dont like how they are giving modern sonic the slighting PUDGEY, or like stockier, shorter spines wtf, they were just fine. In sonic 06 they were kinda long. Now in this game/ frontiers they are to stubby. And yet shadow's spines are unchanged.

I dont think Iore wise they were equivaIent to super. Especially since it would comtradict shadow 05 where base shadow is aboe to fight base doom who shadow gets his powers from. I think it was game mechanic.
Watching this pulled at my heartstrings, brought the Nostalgia and made me a bit sad all at the same time. 😭
