Im undecided on buying it. I tried the demo and it worked for the majority of the clip but had glitches. Do I buy it now for updates in the future, or do I wait for an alternative version from someone else (mVFX maybe)?

I have been experimenting with using subject selection from Pixelmator Pro, with hundreds of jpegs to try and get some sort of rotobrush for FCP. It's been constantly on my mind.. And then I saw this plugin pop up and I realized the game had completely changed! So stoked! Seriously appreciate you watching the channel 👊
I always ask why fcpx don’t have this as a native feature.

Didn’t know that! Besides, it can only get better, if this get remotely the reception I’m expecting it to have it would motivate the developer to push it even further.

Great and informative video. I use Final Cut Pro and the Scene Removal Mask a lot, but I don’t start the shots with myself out of the frame. Here’s what I do:
1 - Import the footage into FCP.
2 - Export out a random frame from the video as PNG.
3 - Import that PNG into Pixelmator.
4 - Use the AI Removal tool to remove myself from the image (it’s just one click)
5 - Export that clean plate out of Pixelmator.
6 - Import it into FCP and place it before the footage.
7 - Make the clean plate 1 frame long.
8 - Select the clean plate and the footage and create a Compound Clip.
9 - Add the Scene Removal Mask effect to that Compound Clip.
10 - Turn that once again into another Compound Clip (so I can cut up the Compound Clip without affecting the reference point of the Scene Removal Mask).
It might sound complicated but it literally takes a maximum of 2 minutes to do.

edit: I guess I found out. u made a double layer including above the keyed video and made the opacity go down from 100% to 0% after 10ish frames while doing the same with the scale from high to low? correct me please I really love the transition and would like to learn this one.
Awesome new FCPX effect! And btw I ordered it using your link. I tried it out on a couple of scenes already, and it worked pretty well. It's gonna be a real timesaver for sure!

This is awesome. I'm so glad I found your channel.
I just bought it last week at the intro price thinking why not try it... I can use this for my ukulele videos. I gave it an easier job by shooting against gray photog paper, and the key was really goo... however, holding my ukulele to my body, when the headstock of the instrument pokes out past my body silhouette, Keyper *mostly* got it right but it would flicker out here and there a bit on just the headstock. I adjusted the highs, mids, and black level and this helped a bit but I think the machine learning model might have problems deciding if an object in front crossing the edge should be in or out of the key Still, it is very promising and I'm definitely going to try it out on some projects outdoors where hanging blue or green screen would have been impractical before.
rotobrush takes too much time and sometimes I still get flickers so this is probably more efficient combined with some hand roto

When you added the effect, I was like "okay cool so the next step is..." but that was it lol!!! wow works so fast! Once they add the ability to do some sort of selection tool or something like that, this is going to be such a time saver!
I was waiting for the part after the effect was added where we then have to mask out the subject.

It might be only for people right now... but it's INSTANT. Compared to using Davinci's Magic Mask or AE Rotobrush... It's insane how good tech has become. I hope they release updates or new versions with differently trained ML algorithms for different objects.. cars, animals, buildings, etc. If they can do people this well, the future is bright!

I would say maybe closer to 85%. Still amazing, and doesn't come with a subscription cost! Try out the trial first before you buy it to make sure it works for you!

In my experience, while there have been slight adjustments, I’d say it’s still relatively the same. It’s slightly better, but nothing major.

1000% better than the scene removal mask in FCP. I was extremely disappointed in the scene removal mask, and haven't found a single instance where it worked better than Keyper. That said, whether it's worth it or not is totally up to your needs. I would be very surprised if the next update to FCP didn't include a lot of the new powerful Machine Learning tools that will be found in the next MacOS update, many of which will greatly help with cutting out objects in a scene! But there's no definitive proof that it is on the way unfortunately.

WAYYYYY better than the scene removal mask. The scene removal mask is one of the most disappointing features I have seen ever added to FCP.
Keyper doesn't require the first frame or last frame to be completely clear. It just intelligently knows how to cut out someone.
What fcpx version needed for this?
Dylan - I love the content, as always! Any idea if this will work on still images? Unfortunately, I can’t try it out because my MacBook is too old to upgrade to Monterrey - and this plugin requires it. ☹️
Yes it does!! It works actually super well on still images. Hopefully when you’re able to update your system someday you can try it out!
Is there any way to create that highlight effect in Photoshop (With the Brush Tool) in Final Cut Pro X or Apple Motion? I’ve tried different blend modes but I still can’t simulate that effect.

Totally should have mentioned this! I guess I was too excited. So It only works on Humans at the moment. It uses machine learning to figure out where the human is in frame. So far it has blown me away with how good it works, but would definitely love to see them expand into other objects as well.
FCP 10.6.6 have Keyer without green board.

Coming from Adobe AE, I wasn’t quite able to follow the mitigating strategies for when this doesn’t work right. Digital zoom? Hand roto-work? Draw-mask? In After Effects you can make adjustments and by adding/subtracting regions with the rotobrush. You can’t do that here right?
Yes that’s correct! As I said it’s the “closest” we have to rotobrush. But still a ways off from being perfect.
I think where this plug-in excels is in its speed. I don’t think anyone can argue that rotobrush is very slow, even on a high end machine.
This allows for basic rotobrush-like features, in that it cuts out people. But it’s pretty limited on the mitigation side as you pointed out!
That being said, if you have access to rotobrush, that’s a more fleshed out tool for sure. And will definitely produce better results!

Digital zoom is just scaling up the scene past the problem area. Hand roto and draw masks are the same thing. Adding a mask with control points. Then going frame by frame, adjusting those points. the clip keeps flickering after applying the plugin. Is there anyway to fix that?
I would play around with the thickness slider! If that doesn’t help, I’ve found sometimes if someone is too small in frame, it has a harder time. You can scale up your clip so the person fills most of the frame, then put it into a compound clip. Once it’s in the compound clip, then apply Keyper. This has given better results several times!

Everything on Apple is expensive, it’s perfectly fine if it delivers results. To develop stuff everybody has to pay $100 per year to Apple. Not that bad if it works.

Hi! I downloaded Keyper and once I applied the background ( matte solid color) the subjects keep flickering on and off as if they were transparent..! I have a studio background ( white) with some objects, but that is about it.. I've tried just about anything on the commands but nothing seems to work...and advice? Thanks :)
Sometimes when it's struggling to find a subject, it can mean the subject is a bit to small in frame! I found scaling up the video, applying it into a compound clip, then applying keyper can solve that issue! If that doesn't help, I'd reach out to FXFactories support, and they might be able to offer some more technical advice. Hope that helps!

Kinda pricy for a plugin that's as flawed as it is. The "text sandwich" is worth something, though - I get that. Its current functionality might be worth 50 bucks. Keep in mind that theFxFactory platform has a $399 cost-of-entry. I'll keep my eye on it, and if it improves I might spring for full price. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
There’s no cost of entry for FxFactory! I think you’re referring to the FxFactory pack that can be purchased through their store, but it is in no way required. You can get Keyper just on its own through FxFactory!
They do have sales pretty regularly which you might want to keep an eye out for!

Hey Jose! To install it, you will need to go through FxFactory. You'll need to install the FxFactory launcher from their website. Then any plugin you purchase through them will automatically be installed and updated for final cut pro! Super easy to use. Just follow the links in my description to get you there!

This isn't a "final cut pro" plugin. It's a plugin FOR final cut pro. I like your stuff man but this is a bit clickbaity.
I don’t think plugin means what you think it means… a plugin is 3rd party software that adds extra functionality to other software. I’m not sure how this is remotely clickbaity other than it is a video that’s literally 100% about what’s in the title.
$100 for something that comes as standard in Premier 😂😂😂

It's not perfect you keep saying, for $99 it had better be.
Hard to say! $99 is definitely a lot to ask. But if the plugin helps in generating revenue for someone, then $99 is such an easy buy! But for those that are hobbyists, I can see that being way too much. Just depends on the direction you are coming from.
I will say, I have yet to see any software be perfect in this area, and Keyper has proven to be one of the best options out there. The only one I can definitely say works better in my experience has been Rotobrush 2.0 in After Effects, and that costs $70 a month. So if you take that into consideration, $99 doesn't seem so bad.
