    Lived and worked in Praha from 95-97, loved it there. Prices then were amazing cheap for someone coming from Canada. Went back for the first time in 2019 for the first time since 99, city/country had changed massively. English is now the 2nd language in place of German and Russian. The locals loved hearing me speak my Czech, many thought I was an old Czech who had left the country in past and was returning home for a visit. The city, country, people hold a ver special place in my heart. I had the pleasure (luck) of meeting Havel in February of 96 at an event at the Rudolfinium hosted by the Canadian Embassy. Ahoj from Kanada!

      What an amazing time to live there. I envy you. I had the privilege to visit shortly in mid 1993 or 1994 while the two new countries still had the same currency bills differentiated by a sticker attched to the Slovakian ones. In Praha, there was not a billboard or public advertisement to be seen. Had some gasoline-tasting Absinth in the Bunkr "club" and met a fantastic Canadian at a hostel. Still in touch via socials to this day.

    After visiting Prague 6 times in the last 2 years, I intend to actually move there, work there, and live there. I hope I can find the right job to pay my rent and enjoy the best city I've ever been to. It's so much more than the Old Town and the castle, it's everything about it! There is no better public transport anywhere, the locals don't bother you and are pleasently cold and minding their own business, and the most important thing for me - all the metal bands play there on their European tours.

    • @Pidalin
      @Pidalin 2 месяца назад

      "all the metal bands play there on their European tours"
      Not always, sometimes they skip Czechia or they play pretty far from Prague, like Rammstein in 2023, but they returned in 2024, so mostly you just wait another 1 or 2 years. I saw pretty much all those big bands several times, I don't even go to bands like Iron Maiden anymore, because I saw all of them several times. 😀

    We went to Praha winter 2022 and planned our 1 week visit 100% on Honest Guide! We watched the videos and made an extensive map of Praha based on the recommendations (and avoided the tourist traps and scams!). Kafe & hrnky was a highlight for sure. Sunny winter day, very relaxed, got to check out the mug-making workshops upstairs. We stayed on Bridge st at a hostel, and explored widely from there (on public transit, of course!). A couple GOOD surprises not on our Honest Guide list - the state museums - the Auto Technical and Agriculture, which are side-by-side - if you have children, these places would give a welcome affordable break from regular tourist activities.

When two people died in 1885, they were buried here on land owned by Jan Pavlicek. By 1890, when Pavlicek officially deeded the land to be consecrated by the church, there were thirteen graves in the cemetery. In 1907 the citizens erected a school building here. Used also as a church and nuns’ home, the structure was moved to the center of town in 1916. The cemetery remains as a reminder of the area’s Czech heritage.

The staff said that creating different menus (same food/drinks different prices) for tourists is a common practice in Prague, so the topic might be great for a video. However I’m not sure if they were telling the truth.

    Watching this in my hotel bed in Prague. Actually just parking through to hungry 6 from Germany, but we decided to take 2 nights break and visit the city for a day.

    Just back from a 4 day break and absolutely loved Prague and made all the more enjoyable by the extremely helpful videos from Janek and the crew. Only hiccup was the bus from airport to the metro is no longer the 119, it looks to have been removed but the 59 worked perfectly. Wish the UK travel system was as good. Can't wait to return and do a slow walk from old town to the castle. We missed so much 😞

      Even the official map of the transport system in metro station Mustek next to the pay machines references the 119 and not the 59!

    Could you do more videos similar to this as well as a video on hotel accommodations you might recommend? Coming to Prague later this year and cannot figure out where would be the best place to stay.

    I think it would be a nice addition to divide your guides going by district, one episode per district.
