oh maaan, we applied in the same year but I applied for illustration at Sheridan. Ended up doing Sculpture at OCADU (: I remember doing that portfolio and the rules were so strict. like needed a black portfolio with black paper backing each image, the stress of needed it done way before it was ready, good times...good times haha
Im in gr 12 and applying to the same program right now and this actually really helped! I find that just starting and working on the portfolio is so intimidating... but this kind of put it all in perspective and took some of the pressure off!
recently made my decision to be an art major and am at the very beginning of my journey taking this seriously, and oh my god the amount of incredible artists who arent even 18 yet has overwhelmed me. this was refreshing, motivating, and hopefully what i needed to push myself to commit to this path..
There is NOT enough content like this when I was younger I only hear about graphic design. Thank you so much for sharing this for the future kids :) Love ya!!
Oh wow this really brings me back to when I was in grade 12. I considered applying to Sheridan, and I even remember working on some of these assignments! Ultimately ended up not applying because I had too much to juggle at the time, and I didn’t think I could get the sketchbook ready on top of my school assignments. I kind of regret not applying since I honestly think I could have done it if I had more faith in myself and made the portfolio my priority, but I don’t regret pursuing a different school either. I know the video’s super old but this was a really interesting watch and I love your attitude when you talk about your work!
Thank you for a such kind video! I got so much inspiration and power… I’m 16 now, I’m not in my homeland anymore and need to make a portfolio in 4 months. I have a big pressure on my own, because if i don’t pass an artistic entrance examination, don’t know what i will do a whole year after. Although thanks to you, i see, i have a chance ❤
You have no idea how this video is giving me the strength to work on my application. I have been discouraged, sad and all as I think my work is not good enough to be considered. But you made it!! Inspiring story. Im gonna continue working for my portfolio 🥰🥰🥰🥰 thank you for the vid
Jackie I really like that you are humble and I do think seeing this will help a lot of people. My impression is that these respected programs just want to see if you have the fundamentals in place to do the work. I suspect they are also looking for that little spark that is hard to define, you do have it. I'd also just assume that you worked really hard in the program, it would be awesome to see the portfolio that got you into Netflix. Your Jimmy character was precise and consistent across all the pieces and your life drawing was great. I'm an old guy on the grind that came to art late- I just try to learn about art, enjoy making it, and improve my skill. Anything past that is sheer bonus.
Thanks a lot for doing this video, I'm about to apply and your honest perspective is very helpful. Would love to see the video about your college experience as well, the thing I've been wondering the most is what the average age of the students in the program is, cause I'm 25 and I wonder if I would stand out.
thank you! honestly, there was a lot of people of different ages (which at first surprised me). i knew a couple of people in their 30s with families, and often people were in their mid-20s because they went through another program, realized they didn't like it, and decided to change to an art degree. i wouldn't worry at all about your age, everyone discovers their passion in their own time!
Ahah "if you did it, we can too !" Well I saw a lot of crazy high level portfolio on youtube and I was like "Bruh I do not have any chance" but when I look at the others I'm telling my self that's possible at least. I'm french and I hope I'll be admitted in a chosen school. Maybe not in the best one but I'll make it and I will improoove x) Tanks for the vid + I just discovered ur channel and your animations are pure gold +1 sub xP
I love seeing how you drew in this portfolio then and how you draw now..I have just become a fan....Please do a video of the work you did while at Sheridan and I love your student film...and this is coming from an old alum from the 80's..
Watching this video now in 2024 crunching for this years deadline and its crazy to see how much the portfolio requirements have changed since then- Plus its like a 93 to even just get waitlisted...
i had the same thing about drawing from real life for my porfolio, i tried my best to not draw from photos only to find out that my friend who got in with me had drawn a dragon lmao
I am 17 and I was allowed to go to a life drawing class I literally look like a 14 year old lol though the people there where very nice I especially remember this one girl who would talk to everyone and compliment people's work and it made me feel good because it was my first time going on my own and I still kinda felt awkward drawing other people.
Oh hi. Thank youuuuuu. This video is so helpful 😩. Me wanna get into Sheridan animation program. Currently I’m an Art fundi student. My second semester’s gonna start on Jan 8th. I hope I could do some good work 😩 I’m exhausted lol.
I honestly don't think I would have made Sheridan's program when I was a senior, my foundation skills weren't that great back then, I'm better now though lol
This was so helpful to me, actually. I have had zero ideas for how to organize a portfolio other than, "HERE'S A BUNCH OF MY STUFF!" Haha. I'm really bad at identifying how my work should be categorized or what I should practice at. I know you cringe at this, but I see a lot of attention to presentation and skills that don't come naturally to...well, people like me. Heh. I'm going to make a better portfolio now.
so im a bit worried my art is no way comparted to that, i assumed they would teach me hwo to draw, due to my family telling me that and what should i do i only have one year before i graudate from highschool!!
Hello, I have a question! So the school I would like to got to, they tell us to bring 5 to 10 documents to the interview with the evaluator. Does the portfolio you show in the video count as one document, or does each drawing in the portfolio count as a document?
Came for the portfolio, stayed for the personality
Same!
Honestly same 😂
Same:)

the amount of progress you made from then to now is amazing

It’s crazy to see how much of the portfolio requirements and scoring has changed. I’m applying again to Sheridan for the second time this year.
Thanks a lot for doing this video, I'm about to apply and your honest perspective is very helpful. @@JackieDroujko Thank you!!! I really needed to hear this!
This video is so cool!!! Sheridan’s one of the colleges I want to apply to, so I am definitely saving this video.
Ahah "if you did it, we can too !"

Awesome to see your work! Thanks for sharing 🤗
Woah, the requirements changed a lot! I'm quite glad they've changed to be less of a workload
I’m super happy to have found your channel ☺️ I’m be heading to Sheridan next year and this is super cool to see
This was so funny 💕
Thank you for sharing.
This was really fun! I wish I could have sent it to my art friends when we were graduating a couple years ago 😅
i had the same thing about drawing from real life for my porfolio, i tried my best to not draw from photos only to find out that my friend who got in with me had drawn a dragon lmao
As someone who started drawing not so long ago (less than a year) it feel really affirming to see skills that aren't so distant from mine
I am 17 and I was allowed to go to a life drawing class I literally look like a 14 year old lol though the people there where very nice I especially remember this one girl who would talk to everyone and compliment people's work and it made me feel good because it was my first time going on my own and I still kinda felt awkward drawing other people.
I LOVE YOU 💖💖💖💖

Say if someone is graduated from high school, but they don’t have a grade 11 visual art credit to get in to Sheridan. What can someone do?
so im a bit worried my art is no way comparted to that, i assumed they would teach me hwo to draw, due to my family telling me that and what should i do i only have one year before i graudate from highschool!!
Well time to grind I guess I don't know what to say

I'm a Sheridan student.
