Rejection is as true to the working artists' climb just as the sun rises each morning. Effort won't guarantee success, but those who are successful put in the effort. It's endearing to see you work and share the process; certainly motivates me to keep working.
thank you. Its true youll find every succesful person is the one who had an extreme amount of rejection but the difference is they kept going and improving
This video taught me a lot about chinese culture. Thank you for this knowledge. I wish the American film industry had more representation of asian characters. That's why I try so hard to learn about your history and culture and traditions, because one day when I'm in the animation industry I want asian Americans to have that representation. It's so important. Thank you MewTripled!
This really calmed me down. Breaks have always come around for me, and I've been like "okay I make interview stuff now!!"....and then I realize I'm not good enough to stand up to what most of the advice artists give online, so much so that I don't even ask my teachers because I don't want to lower their impression of me and then they get accustomed to a certain level of work from me, instead of being open with me about my faults... Or if they'd just shoot me down? Jeez that's terrifying. Transfer credits from hs shot me half a year early into my studies and I'm terrified I've not improved enough.
Would you ever talk about some traditions your family follow? Those stories about you culture are really interesting and it would be cool to know more👍
I also work in animation, and it's a breath of fresh air to hear someone else talk about losing their complex to work for Disney Feature! :) Love your videos.
I'm sure you get comments like this all the time, but you are just the biggest inspiration to me. Thank you for documenting your journey from Cal Arts to actually working as a storyboard artist, because you have been such a glimmer of hope for so many Animation students.
I know this is an old video, but your Bei Fan story almost brough me to tears. I've done the exact same tradition several times and get a little sad thinking about my grandparents every so often.
Listening to your videos or visiting your ins to read some short comics really really inspires me!! due to the epidemic I have stayed at home for over 2 months, I draw alot every single day and start feeling like I am falling into the “art block” state. But this vid comes such a right time, it revives me alot, thank you
i love these videos where you talk about old art, sketchbooks, portfolios! i was just looking through your portfolio the other day for inspiration lmao
Thank you for sharing your portfolio! It gives me some ideas of what I want to push for in my own storyboard portfolio. I'm currently in a year long story artist mentorship and I will be applying to storyboard position next year.
Hi Michelle. I was wondering if you talk about resources for people who want to further their drawing skills, but want to keep it as a hobby. I really admire storyboard artists and want to learn what you guys learned in college so I got better my skills, but I don't want to go to a full time college since I want to keep drawing as a hobby and love my current career. I'm willing to put down $$$ on online classes, but I'm having a hard time finding anything. I was even thinking of hiring an industry designer to tutor me, but I haven't found anyone yet. Any guidance would be amazing!
Hello, I just noticed your comment, (sorry it's 2 years late, eek.) I'm an animator and I love drawing. Did you end up finding an online class that worked for you? What kind of art do you want to make?
I really loved your storyboards! You are so talented and beautiful. And your stories are so creative. More verbal respect in your videos would be very much appreciated though!
It’s funny that you mention the horns. This is only the second of your videos that I watched. And for the first one I just kept on asking myself why is she wearing horns? LOL
thanks for sharing. this made me look more into lotus feet, very shocking, I had not heard about this before and it#s not even so long ago that people stopped following this tradition.
About the boards Michelle, I get you don't have to explain what's going on but I love acting out the scenes! When I did my own comics as a kid I would always act them out with my brother; voices and all. Is that cool to do when story pitching or National portfolio day reviewing?
For creating storyboards for your portfolio, do you create your own stories? Your videos are helpful and refreshing as I'm thinking of looking into the arts. Thank you, MewTripled :)
Disney Is just a big company, their best works in recent years have been due to their purchase of Marvel. If you ask me, Avatar The Last Airbender and The Dragon Prince are far better than anything Disney has ever created, you cannot blame them, times change. But they have been failing to adapt. That's why they keep buying the competition
Thank you for making this video. There was a lot of valuable advice and ideas you gave, and I really appreciate you showing the portfolio and saying what worked and what didn't. I feel like I have a better understanding of what to expect in a professional portfolio. Thank you, thank you, thank you! This was so encouraging!
Im taking a class that requires me to get an internship to receive a A for the class. I live in Texas and quarantine will make it difficult. Any advice?
I don’t live in texas or anything, but maybe you can still apply for working from home, a loy of people in the studios are probably working from home. But idk, I don’t know how labor works in EEUU
I always love to see your work. Its inspiring and teaches us a lot! ♡ I was wondering if you vould give us tips on how to become a professional animator if you dont live in California or NY. I feel like the only way to work under a company is to live in Cali so it's a bit daunting as a person that's just ending their second year of college (under general studies ;-;)
Please do a video where you pitch a storyboard so we can see an example on how to do it!!
Yessss!!! I would absolutely love to see that!!
the bei faan board would be such a good short film gfbiuhjs i can just visualize it so well
ITS HER! ITS HER!
broooo i cried just by listening to it

effort can guarantee success, we just have to never stop working hard and becoming better versions of ourselves and take every opportunity we’re given
thank you. Its true youll find every succesful person is the one who had an extreme amount of rejection but the difference is they kept going and improving

I'm sure you get comments like this all the time, but you are just the biggest inspiration to me. Thank you for documenting your journey from Cal Arts to actually working as a storyboard artist, because you have been such a glimmer of hope for so many Animation students.

Im not gonna lie the bei faan board made me tear up a little, it would make such a cute short story!

Would loveee to see what set up you use to draw at home! (like what type of equipment you use.. storyboard pro? Wacom?)

do you have tips on storyboarding?
I think you'd be a great feature storyboarder but did you prefer to work for tv shows?
Thank you for making this video. There was a lot of valuable advice and ideas you gave, and I really appreciate you showing the portfolio and saying what worked and what didn't. Do you just storyboard or do you actually animate as well?
is it okay to ask, how much do u make doing the job you do? I'm curious!
How long do you spend working on each idea? :o
You censored the contact info on the video but people can still go to the site and see it... What was the point? Anyways, love these videos!
