Yes thank you Dan. This is so true. At the rehebiltation program, they focus on graded activity. It works but the problem is the focus on minutes, and the message that you should not do more. It made me scared to go out, because I did not know how far a walk would be and if there would be a bench to sit on etc. 😅 I also say it on a daily bases: “ oh no, I did to much” and feel disappointed in me and worry about the consequences. Since I started listening to you 2 weeks ago I see that I turned programmed to be afraid, but then I repeat your words “How easy is it to know that I am good” and it gives me proof afterwards and then I don’t worry anymore. Next step is now saying to myself: I did more and my brain perceives that as danger…
A huge difference! And it feels positive.. I did more yes!! 😉
All the fall backs I had… , that kept me from living my life…..they were all based on worry and fear and therefore not necessary. That is so sad, but I am so happy that I get it now and that there is a way out. Thank you for giving us confidence and knowledge. You explain it in such a easy way, clear and with humor.. so thankful! See you tomorrow! ❤

I have TMS in my pelvic/urinary region. I got out of my comfort zone and did social activities for two days with people I didn't know, so it was a bit anxiety inducing. I had a good time and was fine, but I flared the next day and it flared harder the day after. I connected it to my mind finding the social situation dangerous and I was wrestling with doing too much again. It's incredible how this stuff works.

I couldn't agree more with this. Every specialist I saw in 2014 told me "can't find anything wrong just take painkillers and don't do so much physical activity"... I was 34 and an emergency responder. " just get a different job" they said and accept the pain. I had to roll out of bed on my side to my knees. Couldn't sit or stand, lying in bed hurt. What I could do? RUN!! They told me to stop or I might make it worse. My employer was awful. If they'd seen me running they'd have sacked me. I was stuck. Over a year it got worse and worse until I thought F*** This! I quit my job and started running, then yoga, then spent my savings to retrain in. fitness and yoga to learn anatomy. Guess what? All went away. DO NOT LISTEN to anyone saying, sit, don't move, just stop xyz. It's bullshit. Empower yourself, you know you better than anyone ever could ❤❤❤

    That’s me. Me/cfs 8
Years and now healing through this method plus diet and I inadvertently walked to much and caused delayed onset muscle soreness! I woke up feeling crippled, and couldn’t work out why. Until I realised I’d doubled my steps 3 days in a row. I’ve been sore for 2 weeks but it’s backing off now but I can feel the temptation to add the leg thing to the danger mix!!!!

For me key is stop wishing not to hurt. As you put it, the brain is helping me not get hurt. The days I am confident and say: "yknow what, bring it on" I feel so free and fresh. The old pain and fear put my brain in a situation where it just wants to help out..the bigger the desire to avoid hurt thr bigger the protection mechanism.

I have seen success by challenging these beliefs through exercise. Every time the brain perceives a certain activity as “dangerous “ I challenge it. Through constant repetition the brain starts to accept that this exercise or activity are safe. We create so many limiting beliefs in our minds. Every time you recognize a limiting belief take note of it. Put it the test you will be amazed at what happens next.

Wow what amazing timing that this is your topic today. I’m on the road back from long covid and pain is my remaining symptom. I walked my dogs separately this morning, so I went about twice my usual distance and I caught myself thinking oh boy, I hope this isn’t a bad idea. And then I laughed and swatted it away. Of course, my brain picked up on that and I’m a bit flared, but I’m staying super calm and I’m gonna go walk a bit more after lunch to show my brain that I’m fine. I’m trying to see these flares as an OPPORTUNITY to teach my overprotective brain that I’m ok. Thank you so much for your videos! Think I may be joining your coaching soon.
    And Happy Birthday!!

This video really touched me. Dan is explaining in 14 minutes what I have been trying to figure out for the past 2,5 years. I'm slowly starting to understand the concept explained in this video, but I feel I still have a long way to go. I'm still scared to do more, I'm still scared of flaring up and getting back on my feet. Over the past weeks, I noticed that the anxiety is less, but I'm still predicting, analyzing, and flaring up. Would love to hear more on this "doing too much stuff", or people suffering from CFS.

This is certainly me the last few day especially when I added "steps" on front staircase to my new keep fit routine. My knee muscle tendon definitely felt like it wouldn't hold me, jelly legs. I think overthinking then set up camp in my brain because then ankles hurting too. I struggled to believe it wasn't PDP to be honest. I did do less yesterday.
Today I got back up the shop and the park despite a wobble. Even added more walking. Doctor definitely planted a fear seed re osteoporosis vulnerability! Falls etc. Looking back, what I did was not much, yes it was something I hadn't done for a while but.... Definitely think the slight pain/discomfort was magnified by PDP TMS. Thanks for today's video.

Thank you for this topic! I did more than usual today and I was feeling hungry. Not eating on the dot is a left over manifested fear from when I use to take meds with food. I heard my brain say “you’re hungry and you need to eat right now otherwise you can’t function”
But I automatically reminded myself that I will be fine, and some people don’t even eat breakfast at all. Nothing bad will happen from being hungry.”
I felt completely fine after that and even stopped at a few stores before I even sat down to eat. No pain, no fear, normal energy.
It felt great today feeling like I’m starting to rely a lot less on conditions to have a good day. I think I’ve been a little scared to rely on myself, but I remembered that I’m a decent/kind person, and am in good hands.

The thought did occur to me that I'd overdone it, and I had very heightened sensations. I spent yesterday being kind to myself and today the sensations are easing. I need to remind myself that if its hurting when I'm exercising, that's just normal stuff and I'm not hurting myself.

Thanks for this video Dan. So if we do more and that causes a flare up do we rest until the fatigue or pain, aching muscles go while giving brain messages of safety? I have cfs and since reading Sarno's book have gradually increased my walks from 10 mins a day to 20 even 30 on some days along flattish land with rest breaks to enjoy the sunshine. At times I have felt fatigue strongly in my legs and needed a weeks rest. After trying about 2 mins squats I felt like done killer workout but went out still to sit in a walled garden but had to rest after. It took about 12 days for my legs to recover but did after watching this video manage to get to the supermarket despite fatigue about 9 days after not leaving my sofa and home. Recently I have felt fatigue for doing the short gentle walks I have previously been doing but decided to go out to sit in this walled garden again not wanting it to rule my life and affirming safety but felt so fatigued after and like run a marathon and not left my home for a week. Is rest the best thing when it feels like run a marathon or we keep going despite the intensity? While I am doi gmy best to affirm safety and distract myself with dvds it's hard not to feel restricted and confined. So is it helpful to rest when it feels like we need to even though its the subconscious brain causing it but it is controlling my life if rest and stay in for so long! If you read all this thank you!

So glad you're talking about this. When I was recovering from post-covid fatigue (which turned out to be TMS) I would often hear stories like "I can't walk longer than 12 minutes or I crash." Even back then before I learned all about mind-body syndrome, statements like that didn't make sense. Understanding that our overprotective brains, both conscious and unconscious, tend to overreact when we're fearful, makes total sense.

Consciously I was telling myself this is safe, I can sit however long I want, but subconsciously I think my brain was scared, and I was definitely expecting to hurt today. And BOOM, ask and you shall receive!

Hey Dan being doing you work this year and I’m a big fan!
Pls can you help me make sense of this though I’ve had ME/CFS for a few years and I do have the classic PEM which is still a mystery!
But I just had minor surgery and for 3 days I deeply slept but a normal calm sleep I was so pleased - then up for a day in my house felt ok last eve - but last night now severe paralysing fatigue payback and other symptoms then awful fearful nightmares - I’ve now switched into the horrid ME/CFS crash whereas I was doing better. I’m not sure what comes first - I think symptoms then fear?
I know my reserves are diminished then I did more then the payback but ME symptoms come - do we still think that my brain has sensed the increase in doing as PD and become fearful.
The reason I’m asking is bc for once I felt normal fatigue post surgery but now it’s the scary ME symptoms now and I don’t get it
    Thanks dan I’m grateful x

I can justify soreness in muscles after a workout or “too much activity” so I’m really having a hard time with the foot thing being TMS because it’s not a muscle I worked in the gym 😐 I never had issues in my feet till now and the doubt probably keeps it going

When I had Covid, my foot pain completely disappeared. I remember having the thought, "Wow, I'm so sick l can't even feel my pain." 😂 That was before I learned about TMS and how the brain can turn symptoms off and on. It came back once the Covid passed.

This is such an interesting topic! Thank you for the soothing amazing talks. It makes me think… who decides what is “normal” pain? How could we ever decide what is “normal” sore muscle pain vs TMS? It feels like we actually can’t. Yeah some things like a broken bone or cut or something we can get fixed medically. But what if we can do anything? Choose with our minds and it becomes manifest? I think therefore I am. So I have a feeling that at the deepest ultimate level, pain or anything perceived as negative is that way because we believe and perceive it to be. We choose our thoughts and beliefs. So I know now that not only will I heal my TMS but in the process understand how to heal or change anything and everything because it’s all TMS. ❤️🤯
You also said that the brain is in control of everything. And yeah that’s true. In control of what comes after its thoughts. But I’m in charge of my brain. I can rewrite my brain and am doing that constantly and now more deliberately.
Who am I? I am not my brain/mindbody. I am the awareness that is aware of everything and is limitless ❤
