      It seems like a rational course of action for truckers to collectively pursue. There has to be such an agency that would be a legal battering ram to correct this long existing atmosphere of unfairness towards an industry that this nation and it's citizens so dearly depend on.

Before Trump's deal, Mexicans could only drive loads across the border with their Visas. After Trump's NAFTA deal, he allowed them to cross the border and deliver the loads to their destination. They're suppose to drive back empty to Mexico but they don't. They drive 2-3 months then go back home. Another reason why freight is so underpaid.

    Look everyone. Rich and powerful of this and not only this field of business, aka “transportation” decided that foreign workers, who are sending money overseas and living in their trucks, are the way to go. They have decided to take away this kind of earning from Americans who live in the US. Whether they are US born or came here legally recently or long time ago. Basically this business is becoming only suitable for young and middle aged men from poor countries, who are only working, sleeping and living in the truck. Trying to spend as less money as possible while in the US and sending money overseas to their families who are building mansions out of stones or bricks in their respective countries. US is becoming a country to work in, but not to live in. Come, earn, live with 8+ neighbors in one room or live in the truck, and quickly leave it. Good for foreigners, good for rich, bad for all types of working class. America is a one big corporation at this point, and we, the majority of the US citizens are not the shareholders.

    Great video, packed. Chocked full of info, nuggets and... emotion, Lol.
    I have echoed these sentiments for awhile, yet often met with this pushback, "Original contract figures are no one else's business!!" I think this channel even alluded to similarly some time ago. ("not concerned what Brokers cut")
    My best argument for "pay rate transparency" was this basic example: Broker successfully negotiates a handsome fuel surcharge, then pockets it. The driver never sees it.
    Contract is Law.
    The irony is that those wielding the most power, (driver/appointment) are the weakest in behavior. Instead we have thousands of drivers continuing to being exploited and don't even know it or don't care.
    No driver solidarity. Just isolated arrogance and posing like we've got it going on. Which couldn't be further from the truth.

  • @CreditLiving

    Im curious when we see a broker keeps 50% of the load then what? I really don’t think it will stop truck drivers from taking $1 pm loads. We undercut each other for loads and that’s the honest truth. Transparency will not unite truck drivers. You have Highway tracking trucks, carrier 411 etc. None of this stops until truck drivers unite and park our trucks in Washington DC. Say what you will but brokers have absolutely broken the freight market & the only thing we can ask is for freight regulations on brokers on what they can charge. They regulate what banks, realtors and dealerships can charge, so it’s time they regulate brokers on what they can keep. Asking drivers to park trucks or to stop taking cheap freight just isn’t reasonable nor is it likely. Until Owner Operators Unite this will be the market for the foreseeable future.

    From my experience we carriers aren’t united at all and we are in competition with each other yet all other players eg brokers, shippers, receivers and the DOT are enjoying the benefits of our labor. I went back to running local and getting home for dinner, being on the road doesn’t make much cents or sensibility anymore. Truckers just need to unit and bring the other players to their knees because we have given them our all!!

    The problem with trucking for carriers is that we are never holding frame/being in control due to not having our own rate contracts and carrier packets that brokers sign. If every carrier had their own set of guidelines they stick to like a detention rate, layover rate, set rate for deadhead miles, etc which the broker would have to agree to we would actually have some standards. The way it is, is that we are playing 100% by their rules and when does the other side have fair rules? I know someone will say that you can negotiate detention or any of that but no you cant, brokers will not pay a higher detention rate than what is in the carrier packet. Brokers have a lot of non negotiables while carriers have to be flexible on 100% of things. When booking a posted load fine it's their rules but when they call you about your posted truck they should now be following your rules and guidelines. Another thing is that there are probably hundreds of dispatchers out there that are just getting paid to dispatch and don't care. If a dispatcher works at a carrier and they get hourly or salary then if rates pay $1/mile then it is what it is and they move on to the next truck. It would be nice to see a model where dispatchers are 100% commission based so that there is more of an incentive to push back on the brokers more. Brokers are commission based and dispatchers should be as well. I would love to see if there is some kind of data that shows how many owner operators are out there compared to company drivers. It's a little hard to believe that this many owners or co owners like yourself can be dealing with this. I have a feeling there is a ton of companies out there that have a super low margin operation going on while having other streams of income so if trucking only makes a little bit then its still good enough. I think getting rates back up is going to be like punching through a brick wall because this downturn has been going on for so long that brokers and shippers are too comfortable with these rates. We need to remember the broker is working for the customer not for the carrier and its very hard to get customers so they broker will do whatever it takes to keep rates low to keep the customer happy. I wish there was something out there like a broker that the carrier hires rather than these brokers we have now where the broker and shipper are a team working together to just straight up take advantage of the carrier. The way they speak to carriers is completely different than they speak to the shippers. I've been doing this for almost 10 years and this is a disgusting industry. My friend is a driving instructor and he says most of the students want to become owner operators and they are convinced they will be making $120K/year. When my friend says this is not true they reply saying that their friend or someone else they know earns that much.. We are getting flooded with delusional drivers thinking that for a few grand, a couple weeks of driving school and a truck cheaper than an average car payment, they think this is an easy path to wealth. As for the government, the government doesn't care about truckers, all it cares about is keeping the freight moving so the country's economy can stay in motion. The non mega carriers aren't even on their radar. I'm thinking about making a RUclips video about the cost of trucking and not fuel or truck payment costs. Real costs like how this job will wreck your health, how many divorces and family problems occur due to this job, how little of this you can take with you if you choose a different career, how many years of your life you will never get back while sleeping in a little box on the side of the road, what about the drivers that go to jail for a mistake happening. The cost of being a truck driver is really fucking high and I think so many drivers dont think about this because people do not value their lives as much as they should. You only get so many years in this physical reality we call life and to give that up to drive trucks should have a high price but unfortunately it's a cheap commodity. I guess to wrap it up I'll say this, like you said in the other video people agreed to personal guarantee on the loan application and now you cant get out even if you wanted to. Why even have a LLC or S corp if you're going to let them lift the corporate veil and go after you personally anyway.

    • @TruckStuff432
      @TruckStuff432 Месяц назад

      They will avoid the leverage of power from the driver the best they can. The driver can bill them for detention time, but there’s rarely ever a need to do that. About the same as lumper fees and TWIC, the responsibilities of the Carrier and the Driver, rare cases they avoided so long as the way of building loads became easier with more truck volume or whatever, they’ve now leveraged that into a profit. I don’t talk to brokers, maybe I should answer to avoid getting my paycheck cut. I always ask for 95.

    May I add another aspect to how carriers are getting treated badly? I, as an o/o driver, have been subjected to a huge amount of abuse lately in the way of egregious ticketing. I got ticketed by a state trooper that was parked at a convenience store with his 7 other motorcycle cops and he came over after I was parked as a bobtail, verbally abused me and wrote 3 tickets on me that were falsely represented……saying I drove over a median, made an illegal left turn etc. THEN sent the same three violations to the company I’m leased on with in THEIR name, so 6 tickets total. The attorney I hired, said it would be $1000 for him to handle just the three in my name. It would be another $1000 to handle the tickets in the company name!! Within 2 weeks of that time, I got booted at a Walmart parking lot near my home in Texas, where trucks always park, had to pay $350 for that parking fee. Within a month from that I got another parking ticket in Michigan at a Walmart where there were NO signs stating parking was not allowed. Two trucks parked overnight there, yet my bobtail got a $270 parking ticket written out to my company. It is literally highway robbery out here! I am so done with trucking. I have reached my 10 year mark and I’m so burnt out and disgusted I’m ready to go do something else.

I’m thinking of a shut down for every company driver owner operator all of us carriers who are in this together. Simply stop until the FMCSA and DOT have done their jobs and held the proper people accountable for putting their dates off.
