Its really simple choice. Choose a headphone company that has been doing this for years i.e. Beyerdynamic, Sennheiser, etc. Those guys know what they're doing and make quality headphones. Don't ever buy chinese products, no history in them and garbage...
Had these since 2012 and still using them today. They look just as good as they day I bought them and no issues! Meanwhile my friends who bought "gaming" headsets have been through multiple pairs and more money then these cost.
Do you use an amp with them? If assuming yes, so if you do which do you recommend? I’m thinking about getting a pair, but can’t seem to find the best amp for it.
@@didsh67 well, you will be benefited in sound quality by using an amp on a headphone with impedance of 32ohm or greater, if your headphone impedance is over 100ohm, well, you definitely need an amp to drive them, especially if you are using portable device like smart phone
Really sorry for the re-upload. Wanted to make sure the product name was pronounced correctly! Nine Ninety Dmitry...not nineteen hundred...that kid :OO
The quality of the videos just keep increasing. I've been watching your videos for quite some time but not constantly. But it's been a while that I come here for your reviews as they are really objective, fun and informative. Really good and congrats on the job well done.
I've signed up a long time ago and it had some excellent drops. Pretty cool site. You guys should probably review the Asus ROG Swift pb278q. It looks like to be one of the best gaming monitors out there
I run my 600 ohms through a Marantz PM-50 and the sound is phenomenal. However, if I don't keep the bass controlled centred and boost it, I get distortion through the right cup. These is no hair in the driver as this happened straight out of the box.
It's only four years? I feel like I have been using them all my life. They are incredible. The downside is, if anyone lands you their brand new Beats (or AKG or whatever), they mostly sound like shit in comparison...
+Darryl Da Silva DT990 has stronger bass and bigger soundstage but DT880 has more forward mid range. I prefer DT990 for gaming, Movies and DT880 for music. Creative Sound Blaster Z has enough power to drive DT990 250 ohms.
Well I've got a massdrop account already! As for future reviews I for one would like to see more of these high end audio reviews. You guys really know how to put together a good review and especially on some lesser known products.
Already a long time massdrop user, super big fan of their site, love the way they do business. Also a big fan of your work Dmitri, you are one of my favorite youtubers by far!
I've fitted those exact ear cushions on my Beyerdynamic Custom One Pros. I've clocked in over 12 hours straight in those cans and I never feel like I want to take them off. In fact after owning them for over a year, I still try to walk away from the desk with them on, that's how comfortable they are! Oh and the sound signature changed noticeably for the better too from the pleather ones that came with the 'phones.

Quick question you seem to own a pair and know whats up :P I ordered them from amazon would they fit in my computer or do I have to order something else to make it compatible with my desktop pc?
I listen to classic rock, hard rock and heavy metal as well as a gamer, I fully recommend this as well as DT 990 Pro which is the same but much cheaper as well as having coiled wire which is great.

Already have that massdrop account ;) I'd love to see either a comparison video or something along those lines of the cheaper entry level headphone game. Not everyone is willing to make such a large jump from 50-80 dollar gaming headsets to 300+ dollar headphones and information on the entry level headphones could be helpful for them
Awesome headphones. I've had my eye on the DT880's and DT990's for a while now, but can't afford them. I would like to you guys keep reviewing peripherals and high grade audio stuff. Keep up the great work!
Already on massdrop, and loving it! For reviews I would like to see in the future, I'd love to see some sort of sound card vs DAC showdown, the audiophile related reviews on this channel are some of the best on the net ;)
I own a pair and would recommend them at the very affordable price point. Super comfy, great bass and nice for relaxed listening. Lack of detachable cable is not a biggie for me. I've got other cans that have detachable cables so not too fussed. I sold my Amiron Home cans, which I enjoyed, but seriously I don't miss them at all with the DT990 close at hand. Have to agree about gravitating toward open headphones vs closed. I own a pair of closed headphones too, and you pick and choose depending on your mood and environment.
what i like about Dmitry's reviews for headphones that he always mention how comfortable they are with glasses which is the most important thing for me after sound quality great review and i hope i could try semi or full open headphones cause i never tried one before
Lovely review as always dimitri! Perhaps this will be a future buy when I'm beginning to upgrading my audio setup. If you are looking for another headphone to review next I think the Superlux hd681 EVOs would do very well as they are aimed at being bang for your buck headphones. I think it would be interesting seeing as these are my first 'good' headphones and there are not many reviews out there for this thing, only the original predecesor the Superlux hd681 is given love. These headphones really deserve more attention for being so cheap while still having great audio compared to more expensive options as not all of us have hundreds of dollars to spend on audiophile grade headphones.
Best of luck to all! I hope that someone puts these to good use (and hopefully doesn't have a pair already), I know I'd love these for all the gaming and music listening I do all the time.
I'd love to see some silence optimized reviews/build guides to go with the Fractal Define R5. Graphics cards where the fans turn off under a certain load/temp, low-noise optimized fans, PSUs where the fans turn off below a certain noise, etc.
This was perfect timing I was looking at these to upgrade my gaming headphones. Amazing review as Always reviews on headphone amps would be good as they are becoming more popular for even gamers now. Also reviews for upcoming gsync monitors. Keep up the amazing level of quality you produce your reviews at, best on RUclips in my opinion
Already have an account on MD, but would love to get these! Aside from that, your reviews are pretty amazing, really blown away by the quality. My review suggestion would be the newly released K7XX.
Is there any or a big difference in sound quality between dt990 and the dt990 pro. Are the "Pro" better, that would be very ironic, because the "Pro" is cheaper. I hope that questions like this still get answered, even though this video is pretty old.
What to review? You cover all the cases, you covered the Dell XPS13 and you covered all the peripherals I'm interested in, and you just uploaded your setup tours... How about desktop speakers and amps to round out some audio? Perhaps some 1440 or 4k monitors with vesa mounts?
I love Massdrop - especially for their keyboard stuffs. Future content? I'm starting to get more and more into headphones, so more reviews related to amps/dacs/headphones would be awesome! :)
Maybe another AKG product? I'd quite like to see the K702 reviewed as a lower end model to the Q701. I've been going around and around in circles between the hd598, dt990 and the Q701. I listen mostly to (vocal) trance, dance and some deep house. You would say that the v-shaped dt990 would be a good fit for me, but hearing it being a bit bright and having vocals feeling distant, plus the un-detachable cable, makes me wary of them. The main thing is, is that I game, watch movies and listen to other genres as well (some classical and jazz). Making the hd598 more of a saver bet. The main thing I want to ask is how the bass of hd598/q701 (I know they are quite similar) vs the dt990 sounds and if the recessed levels of the bass of the hd598 (going by reviews) can still end up punchy, fast and tight with an amp (e10k), with some minor eq work

True, the Audio Technicas are super bright.
Already have a massdrop account. Would love to see more headphone reviews in the 150-300 dollar USD range (Q701, DT770, Shure 840)
I think it would be cool if you guys try doing reviews/comparison videos of different hardware (like graphics cards or even gaming peripherals) stacked up against each other, running in new game titles like dragon age inquisition or far cry 4.
Thanks,
I love your videos and keep up the great work!
The music fits really well with the video
New to Massdrop, but have you done many reviews on DACs? I am interested in purchasing one soon.
