You should try it again and spend a little extra on the in between colors! The only difference sight wise in this dress and the one Selena is wearing is that her colors blend
I know. 😝 I just wanted to make something similar as cheaply as possible. I talked more about that in the full video, it’s just hard to add everything to a Short. But adding all the transition colors would have made it a lot more expensive to make. Hers was hand dyed to be a perfect ombré which is probably why it’s $2700. 😂❤️
@@lizmakeswhatever but yours already looked so amazing!! It was super close!!🔥 that’s why I’m thinking maybe adding some transition would make it perfect since you’re already so close!
@@lizmakeswhateverI think you did a fantastic job sizing it up…I am a bigger girl too and would have to figure out the same….but I do notice that everything stretches on previous crocheted dresses I have made so it might be good a tad smaller
I counted at least 12 colors on there, so that would be the around the amount the use, more is always better, to try to get it close without using dye. At least if you're someone with spare yard from other projects, you might find good colors to use for two-four stripes of a transitional color.
I love ur version!! It looks very similar. I understand it would've cost a lot more to have gotten more colors to try to make an ombre effect. The only way to make it a rainbow ombre, other than buying much more yarn colors, is possibly by getting a few lion brand mandala yarns or caron cakes in rainbow ombre colors. I really do love the dress u made!! Not needing a pattern is really very impressive!! I gotta sub now!! This was really inspiring!! Tysm!!
Haha, I am also happy when people are paid fairly for their worth. I make videos about this topic also. In this case, though, it’s designer and who knows if the crocheter is paid fairly or if 99% of that money goes into Oscar’s pocket. 🤷♀️ Shop small! 😝
Your dress is amazing! I just want to point out that selenas dress isn't actually crochet, but crochet knit. Which is essentially a knit fabric made to resemble crochet. That takes far less time and is way less durable. Their price tag doesn't make much sense to me. Seems like that brand is just intentionally trying to confuse people who dont know better.
Hmm, you think?? I thought they looked like double crochet stitches but it’s hard to zoom in far enough on the dress. I was able to zoom in on the matching sweater on the website and those definitely look like dcs. He calls it “crocheted” on his website, and he does have other items that he calls “crochet knit”. I’m not sure! Hard to get close enough and really inspect it but I’ve always thought the machine knit stuff that is meant to look like crochet looks a lot thinner and very different. Maybe they’re just getting better at fooling us! Haha.
@lizthemetalsmith The new crochet knit is getting pretty convincing. It is strange that the oscar de la renta site says that it's just crochet. I distinctly remember looking it up and seeing it listed on their site as crochet-knit. It made me look into the fabric more. Who knows, though I could've been looking at the wrong listing. Regardless I think it's super cool, that you were able to make something resemling a high fashion garment and make it customized! I love that about crochet.
Haha thank you, I skipped the transition shades on purpose to just get the general vibe for as cheap as possible. But this video got 2 million views on tiktok and this was by far the most commented response so I might have to redo it. 😂
Thank youuu!! There is a full video on my channel where you can see more of my process. I don’t know how to make patterns for other sizes, I just do this for fun. 😝 But you may be able to get a better idea of how to make it for your size! It was honestly a super easy process if you have basic crocheting knowledge! ❤️
I’m glad you’re hereeee, thank you for subbing! I actually remade this dress in white and made it way more form fitting like the original. I have been meaning to dye it into an ombre for months now. 😂
Ive been working on a dress similar to the long one they sell! Im using a kind of thin cotton yarn from Hobii, and blending colors by mixing each color yarn together to make a gradient in between the solids.
I should have done that for sure. I wanted to blend the colors but the yarn I used made it too bulky and it was too difficult to split the yarn so I just decided to go for as easy and cheap as possible. 😂
Oh my gee. I have not watched the video because my not really into crocheting. Actually I used to love to crochet in my early 30s. But life happened had two children and I even made My Son a sweater. And I made four elephants placemats…. I just recently gave all of that away. I don’t know if I told you, but my son passed away a few years ago he was only 26 years old… but I’m now where I’m able to let things go well some things go… anyway I’m gonna watch the video of you crocheting the stress only because I absolutely love you and I think you are an awesome metalsmith. And your videos are so creative girl you got it going on. Look how many likes you got wow it’s over 700… I sure hope it got the attention you need to build your subscribers up for your RUclips channel.. hugs 🤗, Michelle
Aww Michelle, I didn’t know you lost your son. I’m so sorry. I’m glad to hear you are making some peace but I’m sure that’s so hard. I appreciate you following along! My crochet videos are more like craft vlogs I guess, I don’t really give a tutorial or anything because I don’t really know what I’m doing. 😂 This same video got 2 million and 200k likes views on tiktok! I wish that would have happened on here instead! 😂
@@lizmakeswhatever oh my gee you like almost went viral on those two other platforms… that’s awesome Lizz… hey I just put my RUclips page public. @aumi.jewels I’ve got five subscribers woo hoo… I haven’t even really announced it though. But I got to change my bio because got it really kick but one that I wrote it sounds so much better than the one that’s on there now… but it looks like I won’t be starting RUclips until the end of April. Maybe even middle May.. I am moving and oh my goodness I wrecked my car about five days ago. I don’t know if my insurance is going to total my car out or not. I pray that they don’t. I love my car. But the street was a new road and there were no city lights no nothing and all of a sudden the road just ends. And I went hitting a cement median at 40 miles an hour blew out my front tire and even bent my $475 rims. Bent my tire rod broke the boot axle, and found out that the suspensions are all screwed up. I hardly have any body damage except for on the back of the driver side little bit on the bumper and the back corner panel… my head hit the glass on my sunroof. And my freaking neck just compressed all the way down to the middle of my back. I am in so much pain. My daughters having to take care of me. she’s taking me to go see my general practitioner and he’s going to have me go do MRIs on my neck and my spine. Probably should’ve left this message on Instagram make it more private but I’m really not thinking right now .. lol 🙃🙃🙃 Anyway, I’m not really saying anything that a big secret… but I’m gonna be OK from my wreck. It’s just gonna take some time. You know it seems like every time I’m getting ready to start my RUclips channel. something has to get in the way…. Hugs sweetie, Michelle
Finally, a crochet piece that has a more reasonable price tag. It's 50% off now but I looked for it to see what it was made out of. Cotton leaves it a bit vague but still, a reasonable wage for the maker.
@@lizmakeswhatever Though the Selena dress didn't blow up as big as the Taylor dress, I'm glad you and other creators are also getting traction for making your own tutorials. Years ago, I transitioned to mostly fingerings weight yarns so I could never be fast enough. Heck, my next planned dress uses lace; I still don’t know what I was thinking when I bought the yarn but to you, me, and other fiber enthusiasts out there, I hope we make well and enjoy our crafts :)
I wish I knew how to make patterns for all sizes! 😂😅 I just like to try to figure these things out for fun. But it was super super easy if you know how basic crochet! You should totally give it a shot.
Love the dress wish you would have used a lighter weight yarn though , I learned that lesson the hard way using red hard super saver , my work ended up so bulky. This dress came out so cute , but the yarn made it look less wearable . Good job though , now make it with lighter weighted yarn 😁
Have you done the research on that dress to see if the dress is being produced in a Chinese sweat shop for a $1.95 . Blow the company out of the waters with their bad manufacturing practices.
Nice! Yours looks great! I actually re-made this in white (a lot less a-line the second time hahaha), and I’ve been meaning to try to dye it into the ombre for months now!
It's unfortunately a relief to see crochet sold at a price that would allow ethical manufacturing
I agree! I hope he doesn’t pocket all of it, though…being a big designer. Here’s hoping Oscar is a good guy. 😅
