    It’s time for another awesome EV range test!
    We’ve pulled together six of the latest & greatest all-electric cars to drive them straight North from London to see just how accurate their claimed ranges are. But we won't be stopping when the range hits 0... We'll keep driving them until they come to a complete standstill, to see just what happens!
    So what do we have in the line-up? Well, we’ve gone for range-topping editions of all cars, apart from the first car Mat’s in - the Mustang Mach-E. Sadly, we could only get our hands on the entry-level version for this video. However, everything else in the line-up is top-of-the-range! And what a line-up it is...
    Audi Q4 e-tron
    Skoda Enyaq
    BMW iX3
    Hyundai IONIQ 5
    Kia EV6
    So which do you think will go the furthest? You’ll have to keep watching to find out!

    I think that Hyundai is awesome looking and I reckon that Kia really stands out, but not so much in red. The interior in both the Hyundai and especially the Kia are miles ahead of so many other electric cars. I absolutely hate the vertical tablet type screens, and the Kia having physical controls for climate control is a must

    • @blahorgaslisk7763
      @blahorgaslisk7763 2 года назад +8

      Personally I think the Hyundai looks like something a kid would have drawn back in the 90's or very early 2000 if asked what cars in the future would look like. The "digital" design he talked about in the video just looks dated to me, and in a few years it will just look even more out of touch with good design.
      But then that might just be me showing my age. But I do think that a sign of good design is if something still looks relevant in a decade or two, and designs like the Hyundai tends to age badly.
      But the inside is pretty nice looking, though I can only talk about what I saw. Physical controls will always be better than touch screens. It's all about the tactile feedback. You don't have to take your eyes off the road as you can feel the controls. Levers and sliders for things like climate controls are a good design that allows you to feel what the settings are. Again, any design that allows the driver to keep the eyes on the road is to be preferred.
      Touch screens are good for navigation and possibly radio and phone use, but the problem is that the interface is changing depending on the module that's up front so you have to take your eyes off the road to see what it currently is showing. The buttons and controls also move depending on the active module and there is no way you can feel for them but you more or less have to watch that screen when manipulating the controls.

    Great video! The Kia and Hyundai should have been in Eco mode though. That disconnects the front motor from the drivetrain which greatly improves efficiency for long distance driving pretty noticeably in the AWD models. So that means the Kia and Hyundai both probably would have gone another 20 or so miles if they had used Eco Mode.

    We need good competition. The fact that Hyundai and Kia are able to hold their own in this space is good for us consumers. It puts these other big manufacturers on their toes and find ways to keep prices reasonable.

    Noticed that Kia, Niro in the previous test and the EV6 here, reached a creditable 90% of claimed range. This ‘real world’ test blows right through manufacturers claims and provides honest range and efficiency figures.

      Unless im wrong....peoples driving habits can vary greatly from drive it like you stole it...to out for a slow Sunday drive....surely that would affect the battery life. Therefore...while these comparisons dont mean alot to me. For all you gearheads...this reminds me of the Top Gear episode where they ran a Toyota Prius and a BMW M3 (e92 v8 engine) to see which one got the best fuel economy. Spoiler alert. While the Prius was being thrashed around the track, the M3 was leisurely strolling behind the Prius to keep up. While i dont remember the exact figures i wanna say the M3 averaged around 30mpg and the Prius was 18mpg 🤣 its worth a watch!

      @@JK-js2td Sure, but this is literally a real-world scenario that most people are concerned about: highway/long distance drives. This is 90% of people’s driving habits for the highway, just keep pace with traffic and go as long as you can.

    The same journey in a petrol BMW x3 would cost around £45. All those EVs have (very) hot-hatch performance, some are approaching supercar acceleration!!.
    Charge via home solar panels for free fuel and what's not to love?
    10 years ago the Nissan Leaf did 85miles.
    Now we have genuine 250-300 mile ranges and rapid charge.
    In 5 years we'll have genuine 500 mile range. The improvement is exponential as battery technology improves.
    God knows how good EVs will be in another 10 years.

      Well tech improved with anything over time. Problem they need to solve is what to do with the batteries once they pass their expiration date. As of right now there's no real recycling program and it's being thrown into the garbage. They need to find a way for cars to be able to be on the road for more than 10 years and be accessible to those with lower income. 2030 or 2035 when ev only sales take place, I hope they will have solved this problem or else there will be a ton of waste

      Merc eqa has a massive range. Well over 400. And yes charging is cheap but factor in a battery replacement at some point. Early Teslas are needing these now and the cost is more than the car is worth, shade over 20k!
      Might still be close finacially but I haven't looked at it. If it works out just a tac more pence per mile, probably still worth it as fuel and taxes are only ever going to go up.

    • @solefreak2
      @solefreak2 2 года назад

      @@thebrowns5337 That's the one thing that puts me off, is the replacement battery cost. For someone who has bought old used cars (diesel and petrol), this option isn't really viable with battery powered cars as they will need the replacement or you drive with a reduced range. I mean £20k to replace batteries, how much would it cost to replace an engine in an ICE car?

      Still have many doubts about winter conditions though. Right now it's -14 degrees of celsius outside. Hyundai and Kia owners are complaining that their new electric cars (these in the test) are not charging properly, they are charing very very slowly and the manufacturers have confirmed this.
      Untill the issues with cold conditions have been solved, these "cars" are still toys and not real cars usable for people that need a car for their job for example. Untill then, diesel BMW continues to be the way to go for me.
