GOD & GUNFIGHTING (Pt.2)

  • For everyone who risks their lives in defense of others, be it a soldier, cop, contractor, fireman, or just a brave citizen, all of us must wrestle with life's most difficult questions. How are we to be able to stare into the face of death and not be overcome with fear? What happens to someone when they die? What is worth dying for? Is it right to kill? Is there a God, and if so, what does that God want from us? Failure to confront these questions ahead of time can be disastrous because we may lack the mindset required to prevail.

    You’ve accomplished something in 30 mins that I haven't had much success with in 10 years; explain that God exists, Jesus is He, and that we still need people who will fight evil with the Word of God. And if necessary, with physical weaponry too.

      After you have Christ in you receive the Holy Spirit you will turn from sin. This is the type of attitude that God wants a person to do good things. Yes we have all been Wicked I have done so many wicked things and I know that I got convicted so many times by the holy spirit for doing wicked things. Sin is wicked. We were all told to turn from our Wicked Ways. But a lot of churches out here would tell you to keep on sinning that there's nothing wrong with sin and they are so wrong. The church is used to not act like this. And the Bible even talks how the church would be in the end days and we are in the end of days. I'm not trying to point blame but look how bad Society has changed since the legalization of same-sex marriage. This life is spiraling out of control. And people are running out of time for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.

    Hey John, I've been a fan of yours for a while now. I've always felt called to be a warrior of truth, a sheepdog for The Shepherd, but at 21 years of age, with few role models to look up to...What is truth, and what is my role in fighting for it??..I've really been soul searching, and following your videos about being a Warrior Poet has been encouraging. However, your 'God & Gunfighting 1 + 2' has been the most motivational argument I've ever heard! As a young Christian living in South Africa, hearing a confession like this, from a man such as yourself - whom I look up to - ... You've inspired me with a new hope and faith to pursue truth..and to stand for it. While I must still find my calling in life, Life has found me, and on that I can stand firm . Thanks for sharing. Keep your Warrior Poet videos coming, you're filling a need in the lives of future defenders of truth.

    Thank you for this video.
    In 1997 I died after a motorcycle accident and had the opportunity to meet God. I came back with clarity on my purpose in life. After almost 18 years in Law Enforcement and seeing the worst that humans can do to each other, I sometimes lose the meaning of that conference with God. On times too numerous to mention I have walked through doors not sure what awaited me, but secure in my brothers and sisters beside me and that whatever should happen we were not in this fight alone. Thank you for helping me to remember why we protect and defend persons we don't know and love those we may never meet.

      @Kenny J This is very strange to hear. Perhaps you are thinking of someone else. C.S. Lewis was (and is even in death) an internationally recognized and respected scholar. He taught at both Oxford and Cambridge universities. He was a Fellow and Tutor in English Literature at Oxford University until 1954, when he was unanimously elected to the Chair of Medieval and Renaissance Literature at Cambridge University, a position he held until his retirement. While he is perhaps best known for his Christian apologetic works and novels, he was also a well-known scholar who wrote numerous academic works. Some of those which are still used as graduate and post-graduate references include: A Preface to Paradise Lost (1942), The Personal Heresy: A Controversy (with E.M.W. Tillyard, 1939), English Literature in the Sixteenth Century, Excluding Drama (1954), Studies in Words (1960), An Experiment in Criticism (1961), and The Discarded Image: An Introduction to Medieval and Renaissance Literature (1964). The foregoing demonstrate Lewis' brilliant mind and creative application of logical principals. As a lawyer and law professor I find Lewis to be a highly respected figure who demonstrated irrefutable logic and whose writing is a wonderful demonstration of critical thinking. Mr. Lovell seems quite right to call Lewis a hero; he is certainly one of mine.

    • @reshpeck
      @reshpeck 4 года назад

      @Kenny J Appealing to the authority of those whose intellect is far inferior to he whom they criticize is not any basis for a strong argument. Lewis was a giant of Christian philosophy and greatly respected by his peers, Tolkien being among them.
      Instead of relying on what mediocre men have to say about someone whose brilliance they could never hope to match , why not go directly to the source and make your own determination about the man? If you want to start with something quick and extraordinarily entertaining, yet sacrificing none of Lewis's profound insight into the nature of the human relationship with the forces of the spiritual world, I recommended The Screwtape Letters. You'll probably begin to understand, and it can be finished in a few hours.

I’m so grateful he helped me stay focused and pulled me and my family through. A chaplain at SOCCENT gave me this cool SF Bible. Truly loved your testimony and feel your deep love for God, Jesus and our fellow humans. When I decided to go to the military, I had just finished a two year mission preaching repentance in the name of our Lord. Most folks wouldn't grasp my motivation to do one or the other, even less both. But my love of God and Jesus were also the motivation to serve the country that had given me so much. To defend my fellow humans with a weapon was and is a way to show my thankfulness, give a little back for all the blessings I receive. I believe I have to give freely, with the pure love of Christ. And if that means to stop Evil with a weapon, than I have no deeper problems with that. As long as I don't start the fight, give a chance or two to repent...
    Some say "Do no harm but take no s**t". I believe that's why Peter had a sword in the Garden of Gethsemane. In normal time he would have used it for self-defence. But in that moment his timing for self-defence was off. The ultimate Sacrifice of Love only could be done by surrender, so Jesus had to heal the soldier's ear. Still the moment also served to show His power and gentleness. Being in tune with the Holy Ghost is probably the most important. Only by the Love of God we can be sure to know when what it right. There are times to sacrifice and times to fight.

I stopped pushing when it hit me that I was getting VERY angry and actually VERY nasty because he wouldn't get up. Yelling and cussing to get someone to go to church doesn't make sense. He is somewhere is the great unknown abyss now as far as "religion". I am gonna use this to try and turn it around. Thanks so very much for your work. I am a local cop in Georgia. Not a TACTICAL guy but I do consider myself a Sheepdog. This has also solidified my reasoning behind what I do.

    Thank you so much John for being a Warrior for Christ in a world where we are shamed so much. I Tend to find that our faith is pretty silent in The firearm community. As a trainer I Can't help but include Christ in my instruction because that is where everything in my life stems from. Your videos are very encouraging, especially when I get to hear about your faith. Thank you for the Warrior poet society and God bless you

    I appreciate you and am very proud of you, for being who you are and not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For the last 30 years I have been a missionary in many places, mountains and jungle. Tribal people mostly in South Asia. Always the training kicks in from being in the service. in the early ‘70s, whenever and wherever I go. But my greatest strength and protection comes, from the shared belief and confidence in God and knowing Him personally.
    I am so thrilled that you share your beliefs openly and without reservation. Not worried if you are accepted or received. That you take a stand in today’s world, where so many hide or try to blend in with the crowd. God bless you and I pray that what ever you put your hands to, you will prosper.

    Amen brother. Thank you for this. I was saved 5 years ago, through a really dark moment that God had to bring me to in order to bring me to Him. I grew up a jehovahs witness, wasn't too terrible hard to break away from them because of how legalistic they are and how sheltered I was raised, but thankful Christ came for me and showed me Who He really is, and what He really did. The witnesses miss the mark by a long shot and make it about works and their own interpretation of scripture, and the big one is diminishing Christ to just a perfect man without any form of being Deity. Anyways, I appreciate this video series and what you do. God bless you and take care.

    I totally agree with you. We both have the same Lord and Savior. God Bless. I am sometimes amazed at how many gun guys are christian. Not because we are violent but because we take seriously our obligation to protect our family, neighbors if attacked by criminals and our nation if called to do so. I'm sixty-nine today and received Jesus when I was twenty-five. Like the Apostle Paul as your walk becomes longer you don't become arrogant but humbled as you realize more and more how holy and loving God is.

    Thank you so much for being willing to share your belief. I was born and raised in a Christian home, but realized after living for 35 years that I did not really know Jesus. I knew a lot about Him, but did not know Him. Long story short, He brought me through circumstances that brought me face to face with the reality of who I was and what He had done for me. I found in Him a friend that never fails and as you said a friend worth dying for. I would also say He is to me a friend worth living for. I will never be the same, now that I know him. Thank you again for sharing a little of your story.

    John, I am in full agreement with you on the subject of God. My mom was a cancer survivor from back when the mortality rate of breast cancer was about 75-80%. She had surgery and told doctors no to chemo and radiation. If the cancer was removed God would not have it return and spread. That was her belief and she was cancer free from 77 until she passed in 2014 at 86 years old. I believe that whatever the world throws at you, God can and most times will see you through it. Also when it comes to guns I tell everyone my guns are to save lives not take them. If a bad guy happens to die in a shooting with me his death was not my intent. Stopping the threat and saving whoever the target is, is what I used my gun for. (and to stay alive myself)... Peace brother.... I really like your videos and am learning and confirming a lot of things this world has in store for us...

    • @Dabkilla
      @Dabkilla 7 лет назад +2

      69gunnr if your Intent is to not kill, but just try to stop the threat, your going to be in jail. for you to use lethal force, you must be willing to kill the threat! ask a lawyer if you doubt me. if you shoot someone and the police come and you tell them you were just trying to stop the threat, and weren't trying to kill the person, then you didn't have justifiable use of the deadly force. you should get some training. I'm not trying to be shady, but it could benefit you a lot.

    • @69gunnr
      @69gunnr 7 лет назад +2

      Hey bro I am trained and continue to train and if you tell the police you "tried" to kill the bad guy you then become a criminal and you are prosecuted and by your statement WILL be found guilty. If you shoot a bad guy and he is down and clearly out of the fight and you shoot again to kill him you become a murderer. You only shoot a bad guy TO STOP THE THREAT. No more no less. This is one of the first things taught when you go to a proper training facility. I understand what you say and I will kill a threat to me in a heartbeat if it's needed but I will not murder anyone ever. There is a difference in homicide and murder bro.

    • @Dabkilla
      @Dabkilla 7 лет назад +1

      69gunnr the definition of homicide is one man killing another first off. and second, I never said anything about if the threat is down and u should shoot again. I said when you decide to use the leathal force, you must be willing to kill. if you tell a cop you didn't mean to kill him, you WILL GO TO JAIL. obviously u haven't had a good trainer if you have trained. like I said ask a lawyer. if your going to get to the point that your willing to use deadly force, there can't be a hesitation about whether u wanna just lets say shoot him in the leg. that's murder (which is also homicide ). please stop arguing about something you obviously are wrong about and have no clue what your talking about. do some reasearch and then please reply. cheers!

    I don't know how I just found these videos, but John, this is one of the most eloquent, well-thought, and well delivered examinations and explanations of the question of religion and the existence of God I've found over the course of my (admittedly short) twenty-three years. Growing up Christian (by the way, I appreciated that you included Mormons in that category - far too many people seem to miss the detail that we are in fact Christian), many of the points you made were things I've always accepted and believed, but they weren't things I'd have thought to articulate in the manner in which you did, and I found your line of reasoning and conviction wonderfully refreshing. Referencing C.S. Lewis always helps. It's far too common for those who run in religious circles to slip into their respective religions' vernacular and assume everyone outside that world understands, which usually leads to a waste of a potentially life-altering and soul-saving conversation, and a waste this was not. Thank you for taking the time to share your convictions and testimony with the world. In The Book of Mormon there's a verse (Alma 48:17, I believe) discussing a particular military leader named Moroni, which says, "...if all men had been, and were, and would be, like unto Moroni... the very powers of hell would have been shaken forever; yea, the devil would never have power of the hearts of the children of men." It's safe to say the same is true of men like unto John Lovell.

      Matthew Dionne , I've fallen out of faith last year when I thought God was not listening to me too. But just recently, I rediscovered faith when I realised that God was just giving me the opportunity to grow. And that's why he held back a little while, why he didn't give me what I wanted straight away, why even though I shed tears calling for him to deliver me, he didn't. Patience had to be learned from my end, for my good. As he said in Isaiah, his thoughts and ways are not our thoughts and ways. They are higher, just like the heavens is higher than earth. I also needed to exercise trust... to not let doubt blind me amidst trials. We are placed on earth to have problems for a reason... to grow and mature and be more like Christ. Even God the Father wouldn't save Jesus from the cross because he has a reason for it... to save us. Mate, God has a plan for you. Just because you can't see it yet, doesn't mean it doesn't exist, nor does it mean he doesn't care for you. Just think about the christians that were burnt at the stake or fed to the lions. Eternal life is theirs for the taking because God will not forsake those that love him. As Jesus died only to live again raised up in Glory and immortality, he promised the same to those that keep the faith and follow him despite the challenges. I hope that you keep your faith. I know my redeemer lives and though I may have all the troubles in the world and though I may die. He will raise me up in the day of judgement. He will do the same for you too. Keep the faith brother.

      Hey brother, I struggle with doubts as well, I've found that it's connected to my chronic depression. What has helped me is learning about doubt (Dr. Gary Habermas has a series on understanding doubt on RUclips), learning the evidence well enough that I can walk myself through it whenever the doubt really hits me hard, and, lastly, spending more and more time with God (reading His Word, and praying.) That last one is a lot easier with a friend joining you for the journey.
