    --------------------------------------------------
    TO READ (by John Piper):
The gospel is not just a sequence of steps (say, the "Four Laws" of Campus Crusade or the "Six Biblical Truths" of Quest for Joy ).Those are essential. But what makes the gospel "good news" is that it connects a person with the "unsearchable riches of Christ."
There is nothing in itself that makes "forgiveness of sins" good news. Whether being forgiven is good news depends on what it leads to. You could walk out of a courtroom innocent of a crime and get killed on the street. Forgiveness may or may not lead to joy. Even escaping hell is not in itself the good news we long for - not if we find heaven to be massively boring.
Nor is justification in itself good news. Where does it lead? That is the question. Whether justification will be good news, depends on the award we receive because of our imputed righteousness. What do we receive because we are counted righteous in Christ? The answer is fellowship with Jesus.
Forgiveness of sins and justification are good news because they remove obstacles to the only lasting, all-satisfying source of joy: Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is not merely the means of our rescue from damnation; he is the goal of our salvation. If he is not satisfying to be with, there is no salvation. He is not merely the rope that pulls us from the threatening waves; he is the solid beach under our feet, and the air in our lungs, and the beat of our heart, and the warm sun on our skin, and the song in our ears, and the arms of our beloved.
This is why the New Testament often defines the gospel as, simply, Christ. The gospel is the "gospel of Christ" (Romans 15:19; 1 Corinthians 9:12; 2 Corinthians 2:12; 9:13; 10:14; Galatians 1:7; Philippians 1:27; etc.). Or, more specifically, the gospel is "the gospel of the glory of Christ" (2 Corinthians 4:4). And even more wonderfully, perhaps, Paul says that the preaching of the gospel is the preaching of "the unsearchable riches of Christ" (Ephesians 3:8).
Therefore to believe the gospel is not only to accept the awesome truths that 1) God is holy, 2) we are hopeless sinners, 3) Christ died and rose again for sinners, and 4) this great salvation is enjoyed by faith in Christ-but believing the gospel is also to treasure Jesus Christ as your unsearchable riches. What makes the gospel Gospel is that it brings a person into the everlasting and ever-increasing joy of Jesus Christ.
The words Jesus will speak when we come to heaven are: "Enter into the joy of your Master" (Matthew 25:21). The prayer he prayed for us ended on this note: "Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory" (John 17:24). The glory he wants us to see is the "unsearchable riches of Christ." It is "the immeasurable riches of [God's] grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus" (Ephesians 2:7).
The superlatives "unsearchable" and "immeasurable" mean that there will be no end to our discovery and enjoyment. There will be no boredom. Every day will bring forth new and stunning things about Christ which will cause yesterday's wonder to be seen in new light, so that not only will there be new sights of glory everyday, but the accumulated glory will become more glorious with every new revelation.
The gospel is the good news that the everlasting and ever-increasing joy of the never-boring, ever-satisfying Christ is ours freely and eternally by faith in the sin-forgiving death and hope-giving resurrection of Jesus Christ.
May God give you "strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge" (Ephesians 3:18-19).
    Savoring and waiting,
Pastor John Piper - • Video

and people think this doctrine explained by Calvin is wrong. I can say the same thing, I loved my sin even though it was crushing my heart and I was intent on making it work at making me fulfilled, but only surrending my life to Christ could fulfill me, and He brought ME to that point, I didn't choose Him.

Excellent, thank you for sharing. One of my most profound moments for me was in Iraq. I was the Team leader(SSG at the time) of a 6 man Scout team. We were on a patrol on route Red Wings(south of Baghdad) we were crossing over a canal road and a car was coming right at me. I followed the ROE at the time and ended up sparring the life of the driver. I was well within my right to kill him and I chose not too. I disabled the Vehicle instead. After the vehicle came to a stop and we secured the driver he turned out to be an old man just trying to get home after a family gathering. He was pretty drunk, ended up pissing and shitting himself. I realized later that day I was still human. It felt good.

I've heard a number of warriors with a soul recount similar events where something just prompted them in a moment on the X to NOT take that we were justified by the circumstances to take and it turned out to have been the right thing to do in THAT situation. However you describe it, this is a spiritual event - not rational, logical, or what have you. The laws of nature said TAKE A LIFE, but we listened to something quieter and deeper in THAT moment. Many of us have taken many other lives in very similar situations. How do we explain it? It's sub-conscious. It's the opposite end of the same spectrum when we just "get that feeling we can't explain" that there is danger or not to trust someone in spite of logic telling us, "Hey, it's OK. Be cool." Sadly, this doesn't make sense to a lot of people who witness or hear stories of such events. Some people pay attention to their soul and are connected to something intangible but profound that none of us can completely and totally explain to our own rational minds. Most reject it as "feelings" or just "glitches" in the brain that rational people train themselves to ignore. But the old saying goes: if it worked, it wasn't stupid. All of our decisions are based on imperfect perceptions and incomplete information. They are...at best...an educated guess based on probabilities and preferences. When it is time to roll those dice, I have learned to listen to what I'll call my instincts...even if I can't explain them.

"I was well within my right to kill him and I chose not too".. I wish you could sometimes for a moment listen to yourselves. Suppose Iraq was the dominant world empire and you were that drunk older guy pissing and shitting himself in New York because an Iraqi shot the vehicle you were driving out, later the realize the Iraqi felt chuffed with himself, that he was still human, that he still had some moral decency, etc. Do you ever stop and think?

Been I the military since 2014 and honestly I've read the Bible just because I saw it as another book. Later one I met this woman who was Catholic and we talked about it for several hours. Few weeks later I ran into her a few miles off base at a movie theater. "She's who will guide and teach you and bring you to the path of righteousness." And yeah I did a double take and looked around for a person but it was as if there was a voice that was right next to my ear. I used to not believe in God and Jesus for a while, but that night I was surprised. Fast forward 3 years later and now she's my wife. Funny though, we lived not that far apart from each other and went to the same school for a month or two as kids and years later here we are with a 2 year old lol. Well looks like God and Jesus had a plan for us and it ain't over. Take care guys! God, Family, Liberty, Guns!!!!

Excellent video john. This brought me back to 1 moment. And I want to share it. In 2007 I was standing my post over watching the base fire pit. "Bored out of mind" this fire pit was about 600 yards up from me up against the fence. I saw about 15 figures breaching the fence. So I started my EOF. Ended up firing 13 rounds. Missed every shot. And I mean not even close. I'm a 3rd award rifle expert. About that time. These figures fled and our QRF cought them all. A little while later I got pulled from post to do up a report. When I got to HQ I saw 13 children playing basketball. They ranged from 11-16. These where the same figures I had engaged. After this incident I tried to zero my rifle again. And found that the barrel was bent. Now this rifle was new and was zeroed just 2 weeks before. To this day I completely belive that GOD intervened. And I am very thankful he did. Since that day my belief in him has soared. Thank you for the time. I know how busy things can get.
    Semper fi john.

He finally couldn't stand it anymore and began running down the hill he was on begging for the Japanese tracers to hit him. He heard an audible voice say "what about your soul?". He came to himself and ran back for his fox hole.
After returning home to his wife and a daughter he had yet to meet, he eventually became a minister and preached for 50 years.

When I gave my head and heart to Jesus. I went from a punk to a father. From selfish ways to a loving heart. So much of my life has changed. I could go on and on.i to had the voice call to me.
Maybe one day I can tell you about it. If not we both know God and that's all that matters. May God bless you and your family.

Finally! a rad fellow military dude with enough balls to talk about the good lord. Thanks for sharing... it hit home for me.... I had something really similar happen... I was nominated the religious Lay Leader in Bootcamp which is just like your standing up and leading a prayer group ... it was a humbling experience... i was shocked at how many fellow marines came to pray one on one aside.. I'm not someone that knows the Bible where I could quote at the age of 19 but a little proficient.. but we would get together talk about our letters .. sharing pictures and stories... then we would pray for our loved ones while we were all there.. getting our asses kicked... and then finish with a prayer for the Corp! lol can't leave them out. Brought us closer everyday day and therefore enhanced our performance and team work... poet and warrior...thanks for all the great videos... might take that shooting class in California later this year if there are spots!!! ... and if I can get the time off the day job.

You are like what men used to be a hundred years ago, with strong faith and love of country. We've gotten so far away from that it's scary. I have been saved many times over but never felt really changed. I guess I was somewhat changed one time for almost a year and then life kick me in the teeth and I fell back into being me again. Not sure if God would have me anymore. Thanks for your wonderful words and actions. You are an awesome teacher not just of firearms but of life in general. God bless you sir.

God never turns His back on you. If you're saved you're saved. Rest in that knowledge and live from it. If you think that your good works earns you salvation and that your bad works disqualify you, you'll always be up and down. Rest in the fact that God loves you apart from performance, and the performance will come.

Your combat experience, weapons training and speaking ability is all very interesting but I now know exactly what it was that stood out. Your FAITH. The best part of being a Christian, it really shouldn’t matter what others think of you and your beliefs, God believes in you and will be with you as you testify. Outstanding! I have never been to war but have been in Leadership most of my adult life. I had a young man who worked for me that was a fine Christian young man and super talented future leader that I was working with developing for bigger things. I had to go out for back surgery and turned the reins over to a new Supervisor while I was out. I returned three months later and this this young man came into my office my first day back and said "Boss, I have to tell you something" I replied what ya got bud? He said welcome back, we have missed you terribly. I just want you to know that I can no longer work here. I have been treated awful since you have been out and nobody has seen or noticed and even once tried to step in. It has been horrible since you have been out. The only reason I have waited until now to tell anyone is because I felt I owed it to you to tell you why. To make a long story short he had been talked down to, given extra work far beyond what one person should be expected to do. Denied breaks, lunches, and not give any sort of acknowledgement for his stepping up to the tasks. This kid never asked for anything, all he wanted was a little respect and acknowledgment for his efforts. I begged the kid not to leave and to give me a chance to fix it. He tried, for three weeks he tried but there had been too much dirty water under the bridge. After a lot of coaxing he finally disclosed who was giving him the trouble and made me swear not to repeat it. I told him that I could not do that. I respect that you do not want to be labeled a snitch but I was obligated to fix it and let the upper management know of the issue. I was able to fix the problem after months of coaching and hard work but it was too late for Arron. I made him a vow on his last day I hugged his neck and thanked him for coming to me with this and told him that as long as I was on watch it was my mission that no person that worked for me would ever feel this way again. I told him I was truly sorry that we failed him. He was and still is one of the finest young men I had ever known.

I remember one of my most defining moments. It was 2007, a cold dark night in a Middle Eastern desert. I was reading a bible an Army chaplain gave me. It was the coolest bible I’ve ever seen. I still have it. The front cover said Liberty and it had SF (ODA) pictures and inscriptions on it,. The back of the cover had a picture of the SF pin (dagger and crossed arrows saying - De Opresso Liber (To Free The Oppressed) As I read my new bible I could not stop thinking to myself of how Jesus is the ultimate door kicker and pipe hitter for my soul. I was at war with my soul for some time. He was saving me (To Free The Oppressed) and giving me spiritual insight into a different type of battle taking place, the battle for my very soul (Eph 6:12). This was definitely one of my most defining moments. Thanks John.

John Lovell Holy mother of ammo I worked at 30 AG at that time! I probably walked past you. What a small world. I was a youngin then, 22 years old, a youngin none the less. I am stunned to know that we where at the same place at the same time. I left 30th AG July 2001. I was only there from April to July. Lots of Joes came through during that time. I guess it isn't that unusual. If I remember correctly E Co 1-50th started a new cycle early to mid May, the previous cycle graduated April 20th. What BN did you end up at? I hope it wasn't 2-58. The stories coming out of 2-58 that year was scary. Thanks for sharing your testimony. I imagine that would be one of the only life changing moments most women would not be upset about being bigger than them in your life. My come to Jesus didn't come until 2011. I imagine life would have been better if it had come earlier. Thanks and God Bless.

I was dubbed "Recruit Smiley" in Marine Corps Bootcamp. My best memory was one day when two DI`s ganged up on this one recruit for some reason. Just when I thought he was about to break down. They were on each side of him screaming "Why did you join my Marine Corps?" I chimed in with "To spite his mother" After a short burst of laughter, I had the 2 DI`s on either side of me. Needless to say one well placed diaphragm "Tap" whipped the smile off my face. But it was worth it, cause through the blinds of the DI hut, I saw both of them laughing. Thanks for the video Sir, It brought a simile to my face.
