Hobie Lynx - Rigging walk-through for tournament bass fishing

- I had the opportunity to take the demo Hobie Lynx kayak from Strictly Sail & Kayak in Cincinnati to two tournaments this past weekend. I fished on it for the Buckeye Kayak Fishing Trail's Senecaville Lake tournament, and the Cincinnati Kayak Fishing's Brookville Lake tournament. It was amazing! I can't say enough about how I love this kayak... it is the perfect boat for me! People have been asking me about how it could go from a paddleboard-looking naked kayak to all rigged up as a fishing platform, so before I returned it to Strictly Sail ( 😪 ), I made this video showing how I set it up for tournament bass fishing. I will have a video up from each of the two tournaments soon on my GirlGoneFishing channel! All of the accessories on this video, as well as the Lynx and other Hobie, Old Town, NuCanoe, and FeelFree kayaks are available at Strictly Sail... links to accessories are below!

You talked me into a LYNX. I'm buying one. And all the gadgets you talked about. Thank you.
I hope you love it as much as I love my Lynx!
And thank you for your review on the lynx. I finally got one.
Oh awesome! Congrats! I hope you love it as much as I do! :)
I've been looking at these and this was a great video showing how to set up for fishing. Thank you!
Thanks, glad you liked it! I’ve been fishing bass tournaments on the Lynx for the last couple of months, and I love it! I have been trying to push it in wind and waves to test the handling and stability for my videos, and so far it has been awesome!
When your sponsorships, tournament winnings, and endorsement deals start rolling in, don’t forget us little people who were here from the beginning.
I’ll try to remember to thank you in my acceptance speech… 🤣
Found your channel while searching for Lynx reviews. Best I have found for showing the Lynx in action. Excellent look at rigging the Lynx for your style fishing. Subscribed. 🙂
Thanks, glad you found it helpful! :)
I’d love one of these, I enjoyed all the extra tips from Bert and the high speed breakdown montage was a great added touch.
I just need a little of your flair!
Nice video! Very informative. It's nice to see all the things you can do with the lynx. I had been looking at the outback. The lynx looks like it checks all my boxes for kayak fishing. Light weight and lots of accessories to make it your own.
Thanks! I’m still loving the Lynx… plus it is the only Hobie I can lift up on my car top roof rack. I think the biggest difference might be when fishing in big waves, the deck of the Lynx gets wet, and I’m assuming the Outback doesn’t, although I don’t actually know. I had the Lynx up on Lake Erie last weekend, and the big boat wakes were breaking over the deck, but I never once felt unstable… the Lynx juts surfed right over the waves with no problems…just wet feet. The Lynx probably has less storage than the Outback, but with that big H-Crate and stuffing things under the seat, I bring more than I need out on the Lynx. I should probably do a new video now that I’ve been fishing tournaments on it for 2 months, I’ve made a few tweaks to the setup that really help. But I still can’t say enough good things about the Lynx! My tournament results these last 2 months are the best of my “career”, and I owe a lot of that to the Lynx!
The more I look at this yak, the more I think it would be a perfect addition to the Outback.
I’ve fished 4 tournaments and many other days out on it, and I still love it!
Wow!!! thanks for making such a great informative video!! It really helped me with some decisions.
I'm so glad! I have had about 5 more tournaments on the Lynx since this video, and I've made a few changes to my set-up... I really need to do a follow-up video. But I still set it up basically the same, and I fall more in love with the Lynx every time I take it out!
Great job nice setup looks awesome
Thanks! I love it!
Very informative vid young lady. Well put together with just the right amount of explanation. I really hope you have one of those set up just the way you like it very soon. Plus that vid would make a great commercial for hobie....... hint hint. lol
Thanks, Wayne! They just can’t get them in stock fast enough! I’m sure by next year when the initial rush is over it will be easier to get my hands on one. Strictly Sail is letting me borrow it again for next weekend’s tournament, so yay! :)
@@GirlGoneFishing whoo hoo!!!!!.
Superb my dear friend 👍
Thank you!
@@GirlGoneFishing You are welcome
Great review of your setup. Where would you keep your pliers and hand tools. Thank you. James
I clip my pliers on a leash using a carabiner on the handle on the deck by the chair… same place I clip my Ketch board tether, and I use a carabiner on the handle on the opposite side of the deck to clip my Rogue phone tether and waterproof bag with my phone charging brick. On my first trip out this year, I tried out the YakAttack Track Mount Retractor, mounting it to my H-Rail and clipping my Hobie Boomerang Snips to it… it worked great! Might get more of those for pliers and phone, it would be nice to get those important things out of the pile of stuff around my seat on the Lynx!
Subscribed. Looking for the Pro Angler review... you going to do that one?
Thanks! Not sure they will give me a PA to play with since they have been on the market for a while and there are probably a million videos out already. But they did ask me to do a demo of the new Hobie i9 inflatable next weekend!
Very nice walk around video Thanks ! Are you going to be getting a Lynx in the future?
I’ve had a Lynx since June, fished most of my tournament trail in it this past season… it is amazing!
Mel, have they (Strictly Sail & Kayak... or even Hobie Lynx itself) approached you with more test trials? You have the adorable li'l girl enthusiasm and drive to tour and get better at fishing... That's a gung ho demo if I ever saw one! Most manu's like Hobie have a short list of RUclipsrs.... Good luck Mel!
Thanks! I’ve been trying to channel my inner ski instructor to do the “demo” videos that feel a little awkward. I figure I help hundreds of people a year ski, I can explain a boat to one little camera! 🤣
I’m looking into buying it
I love it!
Hi there - nice video. I have a Lynx and I just wondered what size if H rail you have at the front of the kayak for the camera mount?
Hi! Thanks! That front rail was cut down for my Lynx from an Outback rail kit by the guys at Strictly Sail & Kayak. I could do fine without the side H-rails, but I find that front rail very useful!
I like that H crate I need one or blackpack or might just save money use an old milk crate with some Walmart rod holders lol
I have seen them around, but never knew just how much that one little crate actually does!
@@GirlGoneFishing have done any or plan to enter any hobie BOS tourneys or bassmaster
I have done the local BASS qualifiers last year and this year with my local Buckeye Kayak Fishing Trail, but I didn't qualify last year and I won't make it this year either. As for Hobie BOS, I'd love to do one soon! I always felt the lakes they fished were just too big for me and my little sit-in Old Town Loon, but I am gaining confidence quickly, so if I don't make one this year (schedule is pretty booked!), it will be a definitely for next year.
Just got my Papaya Lynx as well! Time to accessorize ! Can you find out what exact part is the cross H-bar that you have in the front on the Lynx. They make a 9 inch and 21 inch H-bar but I think they are too long and too short for the front. Am I wrong? I heard you can shorten or cut the h-bar if you need it shorten. Did they modify the 21 inch bar? If you could find out that would be great.
Congrats on your new Lynx! That front H-Rail was custom made by the guys at Strictly Sail & Kayak… I think they cut one down from an Outback.
@@GirlGoneFishing thank you! Yeah I think they shortened a 21 inch H-bar rail. Enjoying the content and good luck with the tourneys!
Thank you! Good luck with the new Lynx!
What size H-rail is it in the front?
That is a customized H-Rail... the awesome guys at Strictly Sail cut it down from an Outback kit for me.
Do you happen to know the part number for the H-Rail across the front of the boat?
I'll find out for you
There isn’t a part number, they cut down an H Bar from an Outback kit.
What model motor do you run?
No motor, just legs and pedals!
? I seen Reg # on your Lynx thats why i asked. I am looking at TPP.
@@czwest7845 Ah, gotcha. Since I am sponsored by Strictly Sail & Kayak, they registered it as a dealer boat and put those numbers on, but they are unnecessary since I am eligible for the alternative “human powered” registration.
@@GirlGoneFishing Good luck this Year in your tournaments!
@@czwest7845 Thanks so much! Good luck to you!
What is the car rack that you have. ?
I have the Yakima roof rack, and for the Lynx I just use the Hobie pads around the standard cross bars (no kayak cradles or anything), and strap it down with 2 belly straps, and a nose strap and tail strap hooked to my car’s frame. strictlysailinc.com/products/hobie-roof-rack-24-pads
Awesome thank you. I seen in the video that your roof rack as a pull out load assist, that’s the exact roof rack I want. Thank you so much. And happy fishing. Lol
@@joecooper6266 Oh yeah, that bar is the only reason I am able to load kayaks up there! yakima.com/products/boatloader-evo
Omg thank you again.
Sure thing! :)
Just purchased a Lynx for my daughter...noticed that a lot of water comes up through the scupper holes in the rear. Laterally splashes up through them at speed. I assumed scupper plugs came with the kayak but they did not.. anyone else notice this?
I did not notice that happening, and the stuff under my seat wasn’t wet at the end of the day. I’m about to start editing my video from the waviest day I used the Lynx… I will take a look at the footage for scupper hole water.
