  • On my 52Ft. self-built yacht, I sail across the Pacific Ocean at age 86, solo, the wrong way, i.e. against prevailing winds and currents, 80 days at sea, and 7,515 Nautical Miles under the keel, from Majuro, Marshall Islands to La Cruz, Riviera Nayarit, Mexico.

Just found this channel. He said he's 86!! Seems like he's doing very well. I hope to do a trip like this in 5 years. Currently I'm 79 and just crossed Bass Strait singlehanded in a daysailor. I know how he feels. You become very aware of not making a mistake when you get old. Takes a long time to recover from injuries. I'm now a new subscriber. Thanks.

This is how we felt about La Cruz after sailing there from Seattle. That's why we anchored out while we were there. It's too easy to get strapped to a dock. We made it down to El Salvador until we were turned around by Covid. We worked our way back to La Cruz, then on to Hawaii. French Polynesia is next. Great video!! It makes our latest 26-day crossing seem like a day sail!! =)

I once sailed the pasific in 1970' s on a self build 30 foot cutter rigged sailing boat with no engine, no radio gear, no GPS, no visa's, no epirb, no liferaft, ne depthsounder. Navigation bij sextant, chronometre and tabel's, paper charts and crowsnest. I visited Australia, Lord Howe, New Sealand, Fidji. It lasted for two years, then the authorities of NZ refused my departure. I returned to Europa. Now I am 84 and ride a 2006 Harley Davidson streetbob homemade converted into 1960 Chopper.
I have great respect for these old men and their skill to deal with now a days authorities and electronica. For me, the charme and the feeling of FREEDOM is gone. Alas.

Your story was heartwarming and intriguing until you mentioned your age. Holy God, man. You're an absolute legend. I only hope that I have a quarter of your spunk at your age (if I manage to make that.) Godspeed, sir. My poppop, at your age, was tending an acre of garden, maintaining a greenhouse, mowing an acre of grass, running the church organ club and playing for the service each Sunday and made some kicking wine. Folks like you and him are just inspirational.
