Electric powered control line speed (F2G class) test flight

- This is a test-flight of a class F2G Control Line speed model powered by electric motor made by Nigel Frith UK class record holder on 17th October 2021 at Buckminster UK. Speed is approximately 300 kph (186 mph). Venue is the British Model Flying Associateion (formerly SMAE the Society of Model Aeronautical Engineers) purpose built tarmac circle. Engine speed control is by R/C built into the control-line handle. Motor revs to approximately 40,000 rpm and draws about 170 Amps.

This is absolutely amazing. Are there any sources of information where one can learn more about the motors, batteries and handle/control system or is it much too specialized to find information on this? Thank you so much for the video. It's so amazing to see them work the pylon. This reminds me of American Class D Speed, with .60 sized, fuel motors. Thank you again, and best wishes.

How do you know ,where you there ?
Electrics are generally much quieter at low speeds, but at these speeds, the prop makes the majority of the noise even with a gas engine.
How many cell, kv and prop size?

How did it come on pipe if it’s electric
It didn't 'come on the pipe'. The pilot used an R/C motor speed controller to increase the power to mamimum when the control handle was comfortably seated in the pylon.
WTF did they change the name ? Always SMAE!
Have to say i'm with you on that point. I was told the change of nane was something to do with a requirement in order to get some sort of lottery funding (no idea why)... my models all bear the SMAE logo....

Any info on the prop?
I think it’s a 6.5 x 6 APC. If I find out otherwise I’ll correct this reply.
@@peterg2yt That's allot of rpm for a plastic prop.
@@giffy5775 Yes, but well within safety limits. I use a different size APC at about 30,000 on a small ic engine.
The rev limit for an APC 6.5” prop according to the manufacturer (Landing Products) is 41,500 so it’s safe.

Правильный. Пилот не так быстр, как модель, и ему нужно больше практики. Когда он не ударяется о землю, он, тем не менее, достаточно быстр, чтобы установить электрический рекорд скорости.
По моему это бред , толи ты выбираешь Настройки мотора , винт , модель , от всех параметров зависит скорость , от погодных условий , а тут это не учитывается электродвигатель и полетел
@@user-se2lq1vk8v У вас может быть какое угодно мнение, но факт остается фактом: этот человек является рекордсменом с электродвигателем, который намного быстрее, чем большинство людей будет летать с классом F2A.
@@peterg2yt а я его заслуги не занижаю, он большой молодец ! Я за то , мотор внутреннего сгорания это совсем иная тема , намного интереснее и щепетильнее
@@user-se2lq1vk8v Я згоден з вами .. У мене немає бажання літати на будь-якій моделі з електричним приводом. Насправді мене цікавлять лише моделі із двигуном внутрішнього згоряння, але я думаю, що швидкість цієї електричної моделі стане великим сюрпризом для багатьох людей.

Every bit as fast as Nitro..and faster!
Actually the really fast ic powered Control Line Speed models Class F2A are quite a bit faster and they use 80/20 mix methanol and castor oil, no nitro... but yes, surprisingly fast for electric! 😃

I like the concept but its hard to watch.

Turn the electric motor to maximum with an R/C speed controller in the handle. Yes, the effect is similar.

Soon the top speed will be limited by the run rate of the pilot
It pretty close to that situation in several C/L speed classes.
