- Thom explains why the amazing Mandalorian show should have starred Boba Fett as its main protagonist instead of Din Djarin and how that would have made for a better story whilst saving us from the mixed bag that was the Book of Boba Fett and basically fixing it.

What do you think of the idea of switching out Din for Boba Fett?
I hate it 😂 nah mate I like Din as a character but the more I watch the vid and the more I see how it slots together better the more I agree, despite really liking Din and his "learning the ropes" arc

me too, so much so that i wouldn't mind if someone mada a film switching their lines and voices taking clips from the show and making a 2h movie, with face swaps and colouring of some parts of the armour etc

This video is underrated as hell, I love this fan theory. They should have done with. Din is literally Boba but with a different voice. In the new episode of season 3 he literally does the standing pose with his hands together like Boba did in return of the jedi
From this take on the what if, imagine Boba's temporary armor is based on the cancelled 1313 appearance; considering that he just got back from bounty hunting, had one or few beskar pieces with him for an incomplete set until the build-up of the events in Mando S2 where he gets his original armor back from Cobb Vanth.
And maybe, after defeating the Krayt Dragon, they might swap armors with each other after witnessing Cobb Vanth's potential and resolve as being Mos Pelgo's marshal and defender, and an honorable man.
They pitched it as a Boba Fett show but weren’t allowed to use him because their was a solo film in development at the time so they made up Din Djarin
Yes, it should have been Fett from the beginning. I can only assume they didn't have approval to use him.
Another character like this is Bastila Shan from KOTOR. She was original supposed to be the already established Vima Sunrider but they weren't allowed to use that character.
Constraint breeds creativity though and Din Djarin is a fine addition to Star Wars. The Mandalorian, with the volume screen stage and no established characters, just seemed like a total experiment that they were making up as they went along. Somehow it turned out better than all their actually planned stuff, lol.

That's a good point though about the volume and how the show had an experimental feel to it because of the technology !
@@TheFandomeClips I used to have pretty extensive lore knowledge back in the day. I decided to give up on that game when Star Wars was sold to Disney though (and that lore was cancelled). Now I'm just an occasional Star Wars enjoyer.
Star Wars stuff made in the 90s, that feels like some sort of golden age to me.
@@shifterverse Haha, true. It was planned in the financial sense though. They did everything they could outside of the films to maximise their profit, they really, really wanted to earn back that $4 billion is cost them very quickly so they could show results to their shareholders. I think it went even better than expected financially speaking (or else they might have taken more time to find better writers and directors). In contrast I doubt there were strong financial expectations for The Mandalorian.
I like this idea. Honestly my favorite Book of Boba Fett rewrite. But in terms of fighting Gideon for the Darksaber, I'd save that for when Boba leaves Tatooine with Grogu to join the Mandalorians after redeeming himself in the mines of Mandalore.

The show was made for him. The entire thing how you descrive it actually sounds better.
The only things that seem not to work are the children of the watch. After watching season 3 with boba things could have gone duferently.
Here are my two cent.
Season 1:
Have his child flashbacks. Awake on the sarlacc and have all the Tusken stuff, though like one video suggested had the Tusken save him instead of capture him.
Then ee almost have the exact season 1. Him wearing a non Beskar armor or something like his design in 1313.
Season 2
I would say mostly the same. But instead of havin the mission to return grogu to the jedi it's more of wanting to keep him safe.
Book of Boba Fett

Season 3
This would be the biggest departure. Some things I thought is that in both season 1 and 2 he runs into diferent mandalorian factions whe he is denounced not being one.
Either for his make shift armor in season 1 or a clone by Bo Katan in seadon 2.
Season 3 could be him inheretin no only being a mandalorian but Mandalore.
After seeing the finally. It could have been better with Boba.
I likef the idea of him handling the sword to Bo and being the voice of reason in the tribes as he is nit one of them.
Also en the las 2 chapters. What if the beskar trooper were mindles Jango clones.
In the final battle: SPOILERS.
Gideon defeats Bo and has the saber. He taughts Boba even calling him Alpha and draggin Jango's name.
Boba fights Gideon abd wins. Befire boba kills him with the Dark saber infrontt of all mandalorians saying something like "For my father"
The season ends with Boba being Babticed as a full Mandalorian and becoming Mandalore, with Grogu becomin Grogu Fett.
I actually agree. Ironically, one of the few strong father son relationships we see in star wars was jango and boba. Almost every other similar relationship had some sort of separation.

this would have been cool, but I feel it's better that they introduced Mando, It would have been to chaotic to wrap all the stories around Boba
While it is interesting, I don't agree with the belief you can just swap out the characters because Din and Boba, despite sharing many similarities, are not the same character.
Boba Fett has had decades of working for some truly evil people under his belt, and only nearly dying woke him to that fact. So, he attempts to regain some of his lost legacy as Jango's son by become a benevolent warlord.
Din on the other hand has nothing but honor and tradition to him, and that's the problem. His inflexibility leads to nothing but problems, so he must work to change his ways and those of his people if they are to survive.
The issue is that these story threads were bungled thanks to in-studio interference (watch my review of Mando Season 3 if you want the details).
I still think they will give Boba the Mand’alore title, but yes I agree with your points 100%.
It'll be interesting to see if they go down that route, they seem to have settled in the camp of keeping Boba separate to the Mandos.

@@darthcity9068 Interesting! I'll keep an eye out for any hits of this. It could have been an interesting route to go in but I think they will use Boba sparingly going forward. I wonder if we see him this season?
@@TheFandomeClips apparently Star Wars Hong Kong leaked that he will be in this season. And I have heard that they are building Slave 1 props for the next Mandalorian/BOBF season. So he will play a big role in the "Mandoverse" somehow, exciting to see.
@@TheFandomeClips To be fair I hoped Boba could have acquired the Dark Saber in the show. I expected Din facing of Cad Bane and losing the fight with Boba coming to the rescue and having an epic showdown with Bane. By beating Bane who first beat Din and maybe even took the Saber, he would be the rightful leader.
Or they can just make a new character. Don't get me wrong, I love Boba. He's my #1 favorite Star Wars character. But I also Mando. And the reason why Book of Boba Fett flopped was due to the one person that has been responsible for killing so much of Star Wars. Kathleen Kennedy.

I put the Boba criticisms on Favreau and Rodrigues personally. Kenny has to own the Sequel trilogy though, she should have instigated a better plan for that series.
I'm perfectly fine with new characters, just feels like this was the perfect fit for Boba and they just tried to copy and paste him instead with a few changes.
@The Fandome Clips I never praised Mando. Nor did I talk bad about Boba. I was simply saying that Mando can have his own show as a new character and that Boba didn't need to be the main character of the Mandalorian. Basically, why can't we have both without saying Din is a knock-off/replacement of Boba. But, I do think that this show is becoming more than just one character. It started like that, but I think they are using it as a platform for Mandalorian culture. I actually think and hope that Boba will ride the Mythosaur.
