    Noticed those Altras right off on yesterday's vid. In my experience feet will grow/change over time so not too unusual to suddenly "outgrow" a shoe that worked for years. Definitely Altra's my go-to shoe for the past 10+years. My feet are wide and I preferred to go barefoot before they came along - for years. fwiw I've long wondered why all the "regular" shoes have those pointed toe boxes. My feet sure don't have pointed ends! Back in the day (maybe still) they'd tell us to "break the shoe in" if it didn't fit!

    Good call bringing the go-pro. That was a cool underwater frog picture. Thumbs up to Cody for the PSA photo of undoing the chest and waist belts when crossing fast, flowing water. I don't see that nearly enough in other AT hiker videos. Lastly, you have had the absolute worst weather for an AT hike. The rain and cold and wind and bad views and mud is a reminder that the AT isn't for the faint of heart.

    I wish i had my map or guide out watching your videos. My 379 day LASH GA to VA, ME to VA was 11 years ago now so the place memories aren't as fresh, oh and two kids later doesn't help. Kudos to you guys for being so patient on camera with trail conditions. When I got to Rainbow ledge shelter, I think, I remember loosing my s**t and ranting about the MATC not building bridges like the PATC. But later, I got schooled about how winter here in ME breaks trail bridges too fast to be worth building. Also, we just don't have as many volunteers & money for the MATC as other trail clubs. And access to the trail can be haaard! - Unicoi Zoom '12-'13

Just keep your head down a little longer and you are gonna have some stories to tell about this one. I am glad to see some of the precautions being done to be safer. Showing Cody unsnapping his chest strape on that crossing was cool. Victory is close. Keep embracing the suck all the water has created and finish this. Thinking about yall.

    You are an amazing hiker! I started to hike the AT/LT July 9th. I have never been in such hard rains in my entire life! The trail was a river and or a mud pit. We took every other day, to every couple of days off to dry out. I actually watched your Rangely Video at that time. It was not fun and with the Green Mountain Club, asking for hikers to delay and be aware of trail damage, we decided to head to Stratton and Hike NOBO to Katahdin. We luckily had only one afternoon, and a couple of nighttime rains before we caught a break that allowed us to enjoy the hike. To give you an idea, the morning we left Rainbow, we walked across those logs which were dry and had space between it and the stream (river for you). While we did have fording to do, the worst was at or just above knee level and not too fast. That one section you showed here was crazy! Your mental toughness should never come in question! Thanks for showing how demanding the AT can truly be!

    So strange, I was there about a month and half ago at the end of my NOBO hike. We did not have that much water on the trail. I don't even remember that water crossing she did at the start. So i guess a month and a half really changed the trail conditions the hurricane or tropical storm must have done a number. looks like your going strong. best of luck to ya

    I’m confused about this hike. I thought you had to hike either all nobo or sobo at one time to consider it a completion in one calendar year. Sorry just felt a little anticlimactic to stand at the top of Katahdin and then go down sobo for several miles. Always love the videos but these last few were hard to follow.

    • @TaylortheNahamshaHiker
      @TaylortheNahamshaHiker  Год назад +5

      It doesn't have to be either nobo or sobo. Lots of people flip flop too! Doesn't have to be a calendar year either. 365 days works. I had a traditional nobo thru-hike 2 years ago so I'm fine piecing together this hike into my already crazy schedule

    • @maxinemead8918
      @maxinemead8918 Год назад +5

      The Appalachian Trail Conservancy actually encourages "flip-flop" thru-hikes, and has a few sample flip-flop itineraries on its site. Flip-flops help lessen the pressure of so many people on the trail at the same time.
