    Bolger may have popularised 'stitch and glue' construction using copper wire and plywood in the US, but's been in widespread use in Britain for well over 60 years. In fact, three boats have been discovered at Ferriby, North Yorkshire, using oak strakes stitched with yew withies and caulked with moss, which were used to trade across the North Sea to mainland Europe. The oldest of the three is over 4,000 years old.

    Makes me think of the old cartoon “the cars of tomorrow from yesterday” when they show the king sized station wagon, although this a boat.
    The vessel provides individual seating for the whole family, with the mother in law seat in the far far back behind the dog. 👍

    Wow, this video popped up unexpectedly! But yes, the Bolger Idaho, how obscure is that? A very interesting, "odd" boat. But actually quite pragmatic. Slices through water but sips gas. Go on epic adventures! But only on calm waters. Lakes, rivers, bays. possibilities are endless.

Lots of fun until I fell from the top of an oak tree one outing! Luckily a good sized branch broke my fall 8ft from the ground (it broke and I lasnded flat! Very lucky to only be badly brused and cut up but otherwise fine)! Great boat, I'm a Bolger fan, it perfectly works for your family! AllthebestRoy

    If I recall correctly Bolger had designed this general hull concept in a variety of sizes, from the Sneakeasy runabout to the big Wyoming power cruiser. The Wyoming is a thing of legend. People are always talking about how someone needs to build one because it's so cool. I don't think the plans are still available though.

    • @babybluesbyphilbolger
      @babybluesbyphilbolger  2 месяца назад +1

      Thanks Johnny, The narrow width may have been for efficency & speed, rather than the wheelchair. The back door has an extra hinge so it opens wide enough for a chair. theres plenty of pace to wheel around inside. Bruce Hallman had some renders up with the chair inside. They have been included in some of the other videos and will be featured on some upcoming boat tour videos.

    Build a second one, connect them (knot them together, don't screw them tight!) with beams (2 to 4, depending on stability) and you have a small catamaran that is even more stable on the water and offers significantly more living space.
    Beaching is still possible, but the other options have been significantly multiplied. You can use everything from the sun deck to overnight accommodation and a complete small kitchen. Even small trips along a sheltered coastline would be possible with few waves.

If time permits, come down highway 97 and stop at Crystal Springs which is near the Collier Logging Museum and near a town called Chiloquin (I used to live there when I was a boy), the lake/pond allows only hand powered craft and it’s one of the two places in the world where mere’s eggs can be found on the bottom (I probably misspelled that one). I know the kids will be amazed, the clear water gives the impression that your canoe is floating in air.
    I beg of you to not give those sweet children a single vacks seen!! Wait until their minds have developed and if need be, lie about them having up to date shots!
